    Hi, love the video, I have the same van, bought similar kit but it all doesn't seem to fit together. The head unit doesn't fit into the cage, it's too tall. I can't figure out how you secured the cage in once it all fits together. Any help would be appreciated!!

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Andrew. Fitting the radio into the cage was a right pain as like yours it didn't quite fit but in the end I just kinda forced it in. The cage was such a snug fit in the dash I didn't end up screwing it in if memory serves. It was a few months back now so my memory is kinda foggy. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Is that dashboard fascia in the video comments the good one that you ordered?

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the larger surround you can see around the radio and just clips to the dash. However, from what I could glean at the time a lot of the 2din radios have a standard size which I guess makes sense to fit most makes and models but this cheap radio from China doesn't appear to follow those measurements and it was slightly too small for the fascia. Problems buying cheap! If memory serves I had to buy a cheap generic rectangular plastic surround for a few quid to fill the space. Unfortunately that didn't fit snuggly around the radio as it was too small so I cut it into four sections and wedged them between the radio and the outer fascia. Without looking for the gaps in the surround you'd never know they were there as you're looking at about a 1mm space that is recessed. I'm sure there are surrounds that do fit and that I was unlucky. I can't recall if I cover it in the video it's been that long since I made it. If you want a closer look just drop me a message on Instagram or Facebook and I'll take a close up photo for you. 🙂

      Hey Tony, I've updated the links for the items I used down in the video description. Unfortunately probably due to a combination of Brexit/Covid the prices have pretty much doubled... They're still relatively cheap and good value for money but I can't help but feel that with a little extra research you might find something much better (at least for the radio) for a little extra money. 🙂👍

      Hi Mike, sorry for the slow reply. If memory serves, on our 2007 Relay everything switched over directly from the old radio apart from the connectors for the hands free steering wheel functions but I personally never use them anyway in either the car or van so wasn't bothered. Hey Phil sorry for the late reply, we kinda switched off from the van over Christmas. • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Daragh, on our particular van it was just a case of plug and play. I thought there would be splicing involved; I even researched what to do. When the time came to connect it all together I realised I just needed to plug one lead into another. 🤦‍♂️😄 For what it cost and our needs it works great.

    Hi Craig,
    good videos, very good to make a right decision. The only question i have is, if the radio is totally off when car engine is on and you hit the rear brake, does is get on by itself to show the rearview? Or do you need to have the radio always switched on for it or maybe to get a faster image?
    Thanks for your reply :)

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Robin. In the end we opted to have a permanent feed to the reversing camera rather than press the brake. With the ignition on it's just a case of pressing a button on the screen to the reversing screen. I quite often just leave the screen on when driving to see behind as it has a decent field of view.

  • @pacmania1982
    @pacmania1982 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So the camera is always pulling power regardless if you’re using the van or not? I don’t think that sounds like a good idea, I know it’s low power but if you left the van for a while, it could trickle drain the battery. Also it’s probably reduce the life of the camera if it’s always on even if you’re not viewing the feed.

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The camera should only draw power when the ignition is on. It's been wired the same way as so many others and I've never heard of any issues so I'm happy with how I've decided to tackle it. 🙂👍

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that mate... We haven't really used our van much with how the world is at the moment. It's probably been off the drive once every couple of months or so to collect supplies or just to blow the cobwebs off. When we have popped out though the radio has been just fine. In all honesty I've mainly used it to BT music over from my phone and listen to a little radio. I only ever use the screen for reversing sporadically, we've put that many windows in and only being a MWB I've got a good view all around. I just use the reversing screen for precision parking! It does everything I need it to do and whilst it works I won't be replacing it. If it does die any time soon I have to admit I probably wouldn't replace with the same, not because I don't like it but rather I'd worry I was throwing good money after bad.

      Hi Graham, sorry for the slow reply... For me it was a simple case of unplugging the lead from the existing radio and just plugging it into the back of the new BUT I have left the steering functions disconnected for the time being as my understanding at the time was I'd need to purchase a wiring harness to make the cables 100% compatible with the radio. I never use the functions on the steering wheel of my car so wasn't bothered about the van. My radio works 100% having just plugged in the cable from the old. Hope you've sorted yours out mate. 🙂👍
