Thanks for showing how to use dollies, I had run a tow truck when I worked in a body shop. That was back in the days with the j hook chain and big rubber straps or saddle. I had dollies on the wrecker but never had an opportunity to use them . They work amazing ! Never mind the clowns with the negative comments. Big part of videos is explaining to viewers what's being done, the how and why . Thumbs up from Canada !!
I grew up in this industry and learned how to use these when I was like 7 years old!. When I was driving the other guys hated them but I never minded using them, they were pretty slick!.
Remember all too well the pan dollies. It was so nice to upgrade to self loaders. Mostly ran Holmes or Oberg sling and for a short while a Vulcan Cradle Snatcher. Injuries and health issues forced me out of wrecker operating in 1987. Really appreciate all your videos and have viewed a number of them (have subscribed). At 48 you're not that old, try 70.
I think a Wrecker would be a must for Recovery when it ends up in the ditch as opposed to just on the road or rollover. The boom is probably a lifesaver in many situations.
Thanks I used to tow in the mid 70s All they had was the tub type. When I quit towing they came out with the wheel lifts and the slide backs. Seems like it would be easier than the old slings cars don't have bumpers now.
Thank you so much for this video former roll back moved to wrecker driver, watching this would have been very helpful earlier today I would have used this knowledge today
Jonathan, I don't know if I ever told you or not, but I has a tow truck endorsement on my New York State license. I worked for a family garage when I was in school. I towed with a wrecker and a flatbed. Lots of cars and a few wrecks. You can charge for sweeping the road too in NY. --Doozer
So much I can do with rollback, and twice as much with wrecker !! Exelent video !! I always backing a car in to a dolly , regardless if I have flat or not !! It just easier that way !!
oh my the old holmes pan dollies , wow , I still have my old set for my 63 chevy , needless to say they are in the barn , and no longer on that truck , I upgraded to a set of collins dollies , I also like the comment about the rollback drivers not knowing how to use a wrecker , I was the opposite , I can run a wrecker in my sleep , bought my first rollback and actually struggled to figure out how to load my car for the trip home , and funny enough I still grab the wrong handle every time I use it lol
Great video Jonathon. Ive decided to buy a wrecker, and found one I like down in jacksonville. Im going to pick it up tomorrow. Im going to have to replace the tires on the dollies right away as they're cracked and flat when I looked it over saturday. Thanks for the vid!
Ive seen that scenario with the vehicle thru a gaurdrail upside down and in a flooded creek. It took a wrecker to get it up the bank and back on the road. That was a bad night vehicle and body recovery.
Nice explanation. The place I worked for never had these. As well as no snatch block and wheel straps for a rollback deck. too cheap! I like the wheel lift idea to push the car on it.
35 yrs ago I had a towing service in fl.,and we couldn't have a roll back on rotation, now that's about all ya see. great if your doing break downs but wreck work like you said try an get one off a bridge in a brook or over a guard rail.
I use the same as guy in video but I saw he pulled the prybar out before locking the pin and if you aren't careful that prybar can catapult across a parking lot... or your head
youtube user reponut sales nice dollie covers fyi I have a set on all my wreckers , they are made out of the material that commercial awnings are made out of , rated for 20 years of UV exposure , they are very nice , and do save the tires , last set of tires i bought I found the cheapest from of all places summit racing equipment shipped free , and I ordered them one eve , and had them 34 hours later , not to bad , they just come from GA ... I am in Tn , not but 3.5 hrs from you ...
Lmao I guess the young in me came out, I've only ever known these kinds of dollies, So recently when I was informed I was getting my rollback traded in for a wrecker I looked at what all I was getting and saw it came with "Self-loading dollies" And I thought "The fuck is a self-loading dolly?" I youtube it and come across this video and think "these are just normal ass fucking dollies" and you went into explaining the older dollies you started with and I began to understand haha, But I have run an older wrecker with these dollies, And I'm getting my rollback traded in for a self-loader wrecker, so I guess being as it's a self-loader wrecker the self-loading dollies name caught me off guard, as I've only ever known them as dollies. I guess I got some learning to do if I get stuck in a wrecker.
Loading with ITD speed dollies using the MADLE from 1dolly.com is the easiest way to load speed dollies in tight spaces or against the wall. Flat tires and against the wall is still no problem. Even if the mirror is blocking the other side.
This helped me out alot im a tow operator got my first flat bed with dollies so this helped cause my own supervisor hasn't helped me learn yet .

Cool I've never seen anyone use those dollies before and I've been curious about that for a really long time. Thanks!
Thanks for the helpful info and tips. They are the kind that will save a lot of cussing and time. Especially when you are on the road.
So much I can do with rollback, and twice as much with wrecker !!

Hey man this really helped me I would have never thought to set them up then push the car onto it. Great tip for flats thanks!!

That is interesting , I've seen those dollies but figured you had to lift the vehicle. Those are a handy tool for sure . Thanks and take care

Great video great job explaining the procedure .
Sincerely appreciate you for this video Good Sir!! #WeThePeople
Thank you...i sold my roll back and bought a wrecker...thanks for the tip...ill set them up first then roll the car on them
Never saw that before, thanks for showing this.

Ghetto Wagon
snatch blocks/pulley at list one , straps at lust 4 Is a must in tow truck !!!!. Haw do you secure bmw or Mercedes on your bed ????

Is it an optical illusion, but are the tires on your dolly smaller in the front ?
Grateful bro, this video is good 👍 👍 👍
How did you lock the axles in? Did you use a bolt?
I use the same as guy in video but I saw he pulled the prybar out before locking the pin and if you aren't careful that prybar can catapult across a parking lot... or your head
So that's how this works! I am making a model tow truck in LEGO and am trying to make it as accurate as possible, including the dolly.
You got a video of it?
Cracked my back with that bar yesterday, truck dropped, and that bar slammed me in the shoulder blade hard. Lesson learned.

I was going to say that one that's cracking real bad looks like the original tire off of my 1987 camper!
where you get new tires for it
They make tire protecting sprays that offer sun screens for tires. I think I bought mine at Walmart.
I push car in to dolly to , but I also block tires of dolly with pice of wood so dolly don't move specially at winter time.
I just want to say thanks for the information.

I was using these 20 years ago.
That Should be some Very Helpful info for the people running wrecker I would think. Now, If they will find it? And, Use your Smarts to help them. huh?
I need that driver side tail light lol I got a 99 Montana
@7:00 a little grease and over all lube and ready to go ..nice vid
Are you needing a driver??
nice thank you
Thanks
GOOD JOB
I have them.. they are heavy.
Jonathan the bed on that wrecker what is it a 440 480???
Why is it that professional trucks don't have starters? They must not have starters because they are always running 24-7-365!
Ok
The man
Tire covers for tires exposed to sunlight... good video ...bye
Wow, to bad the actual set-up only takes 5 minutes. You have to listen to babble for twice the actual time to see the real purpose of the video.
Who held a gun to your head and forced you to watch it? I can rescue you if needed!!
A lot on unnecessary blabbing instead of a short, direct video.
I enjoy blabbing!! Thanks.
