They changed music forever. My Dad told me stories of Little Richard in Macon, GA. This video is one of the best and detailed summaries of Little Richard that I’ve seen.
I was a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines until 2012 and Richard was one of my favorite passengers. He traveled with an entourage of 4 men. My job included helping passengers off the airplane who needed assistance. T he last time I helped him off, he stood up , looked me in the eyes and said he hadn't walked in 6 months! I replied And look at you ! You're doing great ! You're standing up!. We walked to the door together with his helpers waiting for him on the jetway where they took it from there. I didn't know at the time but one of his helpers was one of his sons. Rest in peace Richard. You are missed by me and so many others. You were a lovely gentleman.
Hello Jeff, Thanks for sharing your trip to Alabama and sharing this story on the late great Little Richard and his resting place his wonderful music will always live on. Happy Sunday
I love learning new things about famous people. Didn’t know much about little Richard till now. Interesting character. I have to admit I didn’t know who Handy was until now, but I’ve probably been listening to some of his music for years and never knew it. Great video.
Loved his music. Think Lucille was my favorite. Jeff your trip to your Dads has turned out very eventful and historical. W.C. Handy’s cabin beautiful restoration. Great Museum Tour. Thank you for sharing! 💯👊👍💕
Brings back great memories hearing his music. No question he, along with some others, brought rock and roll to the masses in America. Seeing him on Dick Clark in the after school show in the 50’s and 60’s made an awakening to music and race as well.
Hi...loved Little Richard...great music ..very lively and fun to dance to....his headstone is not as flamboyant as he was. ..W C Handy was interesting and lived quite the life himself...thanks for sharing their history...... Deborah 🇨🇦
HEY,.. JEFF & SARAH YEAH ! I Really Enjoyed the music of Little Richard and growing up my brother turned me on to his music 🎵 and been listening to his music every since then ok guys take care and Stay safe on all your Travels 👍✌️ Mark D Barre, VT
You did a great job telling the stories of two men that I knew very little about. These were two stories that held my interest and wish there was more time. Exceptional work of telling a part of history. I sure both men started out with many challenges that younger people would not understand. The Constitution book cover said it all; Living is a Right, work is a privilege. Two men that worked hard. I never heard the testimony of Lil Richard before.
I certainly have heard of the FANtastic Little Richard. His talent was boundless. I didn't know about his private life, and his religious aspirations. This was very informative. 🎹 🙏🏻🎊 I had never heard of W C Handy, however. It was really interesting to realize how influential he was.🧡🙏🏻 The cemetery is in such pristine condition, which is always nice to see.💚🪦💚🪦💚 Thanks so much, Jeff, for these tributes.👏🏻👏🏻
Enjoyed again Jeff, from Ed Sullivan, to Dick Clark, Little Richard always cutting up the rug with his music, as for HANDY I'll have to study up on him, thanks for sharing
Well done research & presentation. You're so close to my paternal ancestry. My father is buried in Lauderdale County, Alabama. Ancestry (of the surname Holden) goes back to pioneer days. Enjoyed video. Thank you Jeff. God bless. ✝️ From East Tennessee. 🙋
Hi jeff, loved the history information about little richard, interesting. the little cabin is well kept there to. I enjoyed this visit as always. hugs.
Jeff! So well done! Thanks for taking us down memory lane (for us old guys, that is)! My first instrument was a Bach B Flat trumpet, and the first tunes I learned were by Mr. Handy. My instructor (Mr. Dish, in Lafayette, CA) urged me to learn the simpler tunes using the sheet music he provided. The one disadvantage for all "brass" players is the valve oil....terrible stuff to taste! PS Never, ever sit in front of a trumpet or trombone player...it's why they are called "spit valves!" Best always, PK
W.C. Handy is mentioned in Marc Cohn's song "Walking in Memphis." Now I know who he was. Cohn was married to newscaster Elizabeth Vargas, who made headlines with her alcoholism. Cohn was robbed and shot in the head. He survived. They divorced due to her drinking. Story within a story. Little Richard was an icon and a trailblazer! Thank you, Jeff. Greetings from Iowa.
I can see where R&R evolved from the blues/jazz. In 1997 I flew out of Atlanta to LA on Delta and I flew in coach. Little Richard came on board with some of his entourage and he was flying in coach. He was quite vocal so people knew who he was and I turned and saw him in the middle aisle. Quite a surprise.
5 or more people in a 2 room house i think was common in those days because everyone would've been outside especially when the wood stove was going to cook, growing up where I did in dairy country people still cooked on the old kitchen queen wood stove. Yes my bride and I could definitely love in that cabin. Our retirement home we are going to build in northern Arizona will be that small. Thanks for sharing safe travels buddy
Man , I’m 50 and the world sure did a good job of concealing his Christianity. Praise God he’s chosen. Just started listening to some of his gospel music …… it’s amazing
Good stuff! I live maybe 2 miles from Oakwood Campus and cemetery. There is also an area dedicated to slaves. I like to ride my motorcycle through there because it is so peaceful .
Jeff I have a question. Why was Little Richard buried in Alabama and not brought back to Macon and buried? I have not found out yet why he was not buried in Macon. I am editing a big video that I did last year about venues in Macon where Little Richard played and many others. I even have video content of the house he grew up in after they moved it from it's original location. It was moved to preserve it because the interstate 75 was being widened. I also have content of the approximate location where the house originally was before it was moved. I wish I could include his grave site in my video segment about him, but I am not able to go to Alabama to get the content. I just wish he would have brought back to Macon and buried in Rose Hill cemetery where Duane and Greg Allman are buried. I also have a big Allman Brothers video coming out after the Macon venues video. That will be sometime next year.
Never really a fan due to his flamboyant style and the fact that his career peaked before i was listening to music, but I do respect his early contributions to R&R.
Wow..hmm.. not so thrilled but totally sad. Little Richard ought to had a bigger grandiose grave stone marker as big as his persona. There was this concert movie scene studio bussed in 10,000 extras for free ( college students). It was a pre recorded song that Little Richard would be lipsynching. He has no lines to say. Obviously we didn't body mic him..besides all actors hate to be touched unless you're make up or costume dept. Sound guys never gets the respect. Knowing Little Richard boisterous energy and interactions with audience, I planted a wireless microphone away from cam the angles. Just before cam rolled, I walked Little Richard to the plant and said whatver ad lib or impromptu things he says will be captured. He need not worry to return to studio in the future to loop the scene. Little Richard LOST HIS MIND when he saw the plant mic. Production halted immediately. I got 10, 000 people staring at the stage ! Little Richard was certain I was a stooge paid by The National Enquirer to secretly record and sell the tape. In seconds I was surrounded by his hordes of posse..but thankfully each one of them understood I was a sound crew doing my job. To hell with this I said and pulled the plant. Little Richard calmed down and filming began. At the start of the scene, Little Richard wildly adlibbed...no body mic, no boom mic nothing went to tape. We did the playback and he lipsynched. At the end of the song he was so pumped he addressed the crowd. Lol... nothing went to tape. Whatever. Next day was his last shooting day and I wanted to take a picture with him. I mean this is LITTLE RICHARD.. the ARCHITECT OF ROCK N ROLL AND I LOVED HIM! I'll never get another chance. So I gathered the nerves and asked. He said " Sure sweetheart. He should have taken this picture yesterday I loved that costume better! Listen sweetie you're doing a great job. You're very blessed" Ben Vereen was sitting next to him beaming with his big smile That meant so much to me. This video was so well researched, shot, edited and produced. Love you Jeff for treating my HERO with reverence and respect. Thank you and Rest In Peace Sir Richard

Brendan
Glad you liked it! Thanks, Brendan!
I feel bad due to what his religion said he couldn’t be himself and was so torn and tormented. And had such issues growing up. RIP
👍👍👍
I wish I knew that you were in Florence Alabama. I would like to meet you in person. I live in Florence Alabama
I wasn’t there very long, less than a day but I hope someday we can meet. I enjoy meeting fans of the channel!
Thank you
You're welcome! Thank you!
Another great video, thank's for sharing it with us. Little Richard was a little too flamboyant for my taste in music, but he sure could perform.
Great video Jeff!
Thanks! I appreciate this nice comment!
Man , I’m 50 and the world sure did a good job of concealing his Christianity. Praise God he’s chosen. Just started listening to some of his gospel music …… it’s amazing
I was surprised he was a Christian too because I never saw these interviews until I produced this video!
I greatly admire Little Richard, yet I was unfamiliar with W.C. Handy. Thank you for the introduction.
Very welcome! Thanks for the comment once again, friend!
Good stuff! I live maybe 2 miles from Oakwood Campus and cemetery. There is also an area dedicated to slaves. I like to ride my motorcycle through there because it is so peaceful .
Indeed it was very peaceful. While Little Richard is on the far edge, in the future he will be in the middle of that cemetery as graves are added.
Ironically, I have not been to see his sight. But will make sure I do👍
Little Richard was funny in "Down and Out in Beverly Hills."

👍🏽👍🏽
Hand hewn wood on that cabin . Pretty common back then.
I really enjoyed his music and I believe he had Jesus in him and he wanted to teach his fans Jesus
Did you do an episode of HH about James Brown? I wonder if Little Richard and James Brown knew each other?
I haven’t done one on James Brown. I’m sure the two knew each other!
