I was in the corps in the 60’s in the infantry and am a Vietnam veteran. My company was in the original hill fights at Khe Sanh in May of 67. There was some hand to hand fighting. Prior to the Vietnam war my unit primarily trained in combat maneuvers. We were in the field most of the time learning to fight as a unit. We didn’t have much time to take up martial arts. People commenting on how the MCMAP is inferior to martial arts and mma know that it takes a lot of time and practice to become proficient in their choice of fighting styles. MCMAP is not designed to make a person a skilled martial artist. It’s designed to teach Marines in hand to hand fighting on the battlefield or in their perimeter after being overrun.

I remember this little white female corporal was my MCMAP partner for that particular training day. She barely weighed 110 pounds. She told me not to take it easy on her. The next day when we showed up for morning pt in shorts and skivvy shirts, all of her visible exposed skin was black and blue from bruising. She was a motivator...

    Fundamentals
Entry - Invade opponent's personal space fast
Off Balance - Disrupt opponent's center of gravity
Execution - Bringing all of these together
Angles of Movement - Execute any openings and angles that gives you an advantage

I did well, but did not feel especially well equipped to handle hand to had fighting. I really appreciated the advent of MCMAP b/c it made me more EFFECTIVE, on & off the battlefield. It is an amalgam of techniques that, when effectively used, give you an advantage over an opponent, including holds, throws, grappling, choking, eye-gouging, nut crushing, suffocation, etc, that give you the advantage in a conflict/ hand to hand combat situation. Any good USMC MMA training will help that!

@@miguelbermudez5426 They do teach sweeps, that's just not the technique they're teaching in the video. That said, they're only doing green belt, technically speaking they're not even supposed to be grappling while standing for safety reasons. The instructors have to be VERY careful not to hurt the students.

The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program is a combat system developed by the United States Marine Corps to combine existing and new hand-to-hand and close quarters combat techniques with morale and team-building functions and instruction in the warrior ethos. The program uses an advancement system of colored belts similar to that of most martial arts.

    • @kcnoel5270
      @kcnoel5270 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Forget about her being thrown down, something worse is that in the obstacle course, there are times when the guys helped her up and down obstacles that she could have easily maneuvered without her.
Yeah, they’re supposed to be a team but that course was meant for going solo. If she can’t reach the pole to go over, yeah, she can get help.
And naturally men and women’s bodies aren’t built the same so she has much more difficulty doing things like climbing up the rope, which btw she had her feet wrapped around the rope wrong which was part of the reason she couldn’t get up.
But she could have gotten up that wall no problem. A: she could reach the top of the wall. B: even if she couldn’t reach the top she could have gotten a running head start to scale it.
These men are allowing her to be weak instead of teaching her how to overcome.
If a drill sergeant was there he would not allow that behavior unless she actually couldn’t do it.
And behavior like this, this dependency on men happens everywhere. I’ve seen in in several different ways. I can’t count how many girls I’ve met who allow themselves to be dumb to attract a guy, a way to get his attention by acting like she needs help.
There’s also women who have the dependency where they think they NEED and boyfriend for them to live/be complete. And they don’t care who they date as long as they date.
I bring this up because it’s a genuine culture flaw that does so much more harm than help.
If a girl learns to always be dependent on a man, she won’t know independence. If she chose to be dumb then decides to try being independent, she won’t be able to get a good job. She won’t be able to go to further schooling. She got herself stuck there and it’ll take months and years to help herself.
And as for the relationship dependency, my sister had a relationship dependency. Because of it, she dated a horrible abusive drunk for years.
She was in horrible condition. But once she finally broke it off and learned independence, she was free. It took her over a year, but her mental health improved drastically. She got a great job and dated around for a bit.
And the change was getting rid of something she was clinging to because of her own ignorance.
And no this isn’t a dis on all girls or whatever. (I myself am a girl, but raised to be smart and independent. My dad didn’t allow any of that acting dumb or weak crap 😂 he worked us like boys) This is a call to change this toxic culture.
I bet everyone can think of someone who’s like these examples I’ve given! Even if they don’t know it yet

The quality of instruction in this video is way way way better than what we typically receive in the fleet. If you spend the time training on technique, it can be very effective. But if you’re in the Infantry, you might do Mcmap training maybe once a month, and then it’s mostly just devolved poorly run “ backyard style” training conducted by squad leaders who may or may not have proficiency themselves.
