@@ragnar19968 HAHHA That comment was 15 years ago do you think he is gonna respond XD
@Sasuke come on man chill
One of the coolest things that happened to me ever was sitting across from this man in a rib shack in Alabama sharing drinking stories over beer and barbecue. He's the coolest, most down to earth guy on the planet. Friggin' awesome.
My man’s *jammin’* on that tuba. This is top tier brass, my friends. Top tier.
That's *exactly* what I was seeing when I saw this live. It sounds kind of distorted like the electric bass does. All in all this is probably the best tuba solo I have heard in years, remarkable.
Well.....time to quit all tuba lessons now and work at McDonalds.
i tried it, didnt work im back at tuba
I'm so mad. Two years ago I had the chance to see him at my school, but I had to study for an midterm. I've seen Clapton and Beck, but I regret everyday I missed Oystein.
I think I'm going to go practice now......
40 hours a day (:
YOU STILL PRACTICIN?
i went to my friend's tuba recital today and he played this, i had no idea a tuba could make that sort of noise, i was blown away!
TheNHTRB multiphonics, you sing the upper note and buzz the lower. You can do the opposite but its really hard
It’s not about the ride, but the rider.
Me: I wanna be the best tuba player ever
Best tuba player:
*Lord Squidward left the lobby*
Have a look at the faq section under tuba pages on my web page. You'll find some explanations there. good luck!
I am playing the new Miraphone Starlight E-flat tuba.
I saw this live last night and it was magical.
This honestly... Sounds like a tribalish dance kind of thing. And I love it
You’re right. It’s a bit tribal :)
Sounds like Baadsvik was trying to make me feel like I’m in a cold Scandinavian valley, listening to echos between the snowy mountains.
he makes it look too easy, especially the polyphonic stuff, he must have perfect pitch... that and double tonguing as fast as he does is super hard, undoubtedly the best in the world
No question...the very best tubist alive today. And he's a Norwegian. Can it get any better than that?
David A. Paulson I think there is a lot of question to that statement
Nat McIntosh
Can he join a metal band?! 🤘🏼
I can do this just like Baadsvik.
-nobody ever
That is impressive! I always love it when an instrument is used in a unique way and this definitely ranks right up there.
I'll never forget the first electric violin I heard. Oh it was awesome.
few weeks ago i thought multiphonics on the trombone sounded good. Now I saw this I don´t even want to try it anymore.
It works better on Tuba, cos it is easier the sing above the note you play...
Bob Steward does it very nice!😉
Baadsvick, you're the best tuba player in all the times! It's marvelous to see you playing your E-Flat tuba and the sound that you make is incredible!!! You're a master and have great skills... Congratulations!!!
I hope you come to Brazil one day to show us your job!
I'm in highschool and I play tuba. I found singing and playing easy. It just made since to me. To since to me. Or am I just weird. I was told by an music instructor to watch this and I'm amazed. I love playing tuba however this will be the last year I'll be able to play an instrument. But I'm happy to have played as long as I did. The tuba is a awesome instrument.
start a gofundme for a tuba, we want to hear you play
tuba dubstep......sweet mother of god
The one and only Tuba God
Sir, I saw you do this in Tyler, Texas somewhere around 2008-2009. Immediately copied it, to the point I did it compulsively at a pep rally and almost got kicked out of my high school band. And I couldn't love you more for it. Thank you for influencing tuba players all over the world
One of the contestants at this year's BBC Young Musicians 2012 contest just played this piece, complete with multiphonics and beatboxing. It was awesome.
I try to do multi phonics. It either sounds ok, terrible, or doesn't even want to work. Good job Mr. Baadsvik!
I hope you're granted a lesson.
I got to spend an entire week hanging out with Oystein when I participated in the Rekkenze Brass Festival a few years ago.
He's awesome to see/meet live!
How is this man slaptounging without a reed?
I'm impressed
I WAS THERE HE IS A GOD AMONG MEN
Steven Dammer it’s been a long, long time since you commented this.
Song starts at 2:52
sounds like a super jazzy trombone but way lower. bro takes the definition of tuba to a whole other level.
Tuba is my favourite percussion instrument
Thanks so much for sharing this! As a composer its so invaluable to have instrumentalists show us what can actually be done with the instrument. The two note chords totally blew me away and the microtone two tone waverings were awesome.
I can not express how much I like your technique, sound, and performance. Simply Great!
I saw this live last night and I just wanted it to never stop.
Fnugg is such an inspiration to me and my tuba playing
Mr. Baadsvik, you are a true inspiration to all us tuba players. One we all could wish to aspire to. Like many others have stated, you are a true virtuoso of the Tuba. Keep inspiring the masses.
Just… bombastic! I've never thought a tuba could make such sounds!
Music is magical and this musician proves it.
Brilliant!, would never have thought of listening to the tuba. That's got to got along way, bloody amazing. I take my hat off to that guy.
From a fellow Tuba player... That was awesome. I applaud your virtuosity.
WOW! I have been playing tuba for a long time, this is amazing!
Sadly, the videos don't do justice to the live versions...but, yeah. Thanks for the great show today, Oystein!
You rock Mr. Baadsvik! :-)
Omg that's amazing
Thanks twosetters for unearthing this masterpiece for more ppl to enjoy
Brilliant! Simply brilliant! :D
I met this guy today! He's a great guy and an AWESOME tuba player.
You are amazing!
The tuba Lord and Savior back at it again!!
Må bare si at jeg er et stort fan av deg, og det du gjør med tubaen! helt sykt morsomt! :)
Incredible!!!
才能余りすぎ!
awsome... i Love it!!
Awesome!
Great Tuba playing!
And this was 13 years ago, he is probably even more masterful today
Thank you for allowing us to embed. This is the featured video in my blog today, entitled, "Be the Best".

i do this sorta voice thing (humming, barking, singing) on my didgeridoo but it has only one key. he creates more sound too.
this is inspiring :)
ur a bloody legend mate. I hail you!
Amazing!! Super-Smashing-Great!!
fun to listen and watch.
Excellent
Una sola parola per definirlo : Geniale!!!
AMAZING FAM
OWNED!!
that concert was amasing
I fucking loved playing this piece.
Omar Morales can you send me an email of a link to the music?
i want to take lessons from his teacher!
athousand teddybears I have actually! Among others he studied at KMH in Stockholm for Michael Lind, who retired earlier this year. I was his last student :/
athousand teddybears or from him
Hold how you’re going to get lessons from god him self
I saw this performed today... the bloke who did it was amazing and basically did the routine beforehand! xD He played it as an encore for playing the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto :') It was amazing and I now wanna play the Tuba.
I am so going to order the solo. For a month or so, I've been practicing my multiphonics after I heard this. This freaking unbelievable. I'm actually pretty decent now. I can sing up to an octave above the note that I'm playing, but I can't do too much below the note I'm playing, I hope the piece doesn't have any singing below the note... if it does, oh well. A fun challenge.
@ Lediur - It's the Moore's School of Music at the University of Houston
this is insane!!! AWESOME!!! this guy is really grat!!!!
awesome
holy holy ravioli this is mindblowing
2:58 : **my washing machine at 3am**
You Inspire Me!!!
@943kline Its more like humming then anything else and it helps to sing the note that you're playing at first and then try to slowly raise you sung pitch, it'll battle the note your playing but eventually you'll get the fourth or fifth above that note and it's really easy to get then.
yes...my jaw was on the floor after that BBC Young Musician
The guy who envented tuba beatboxing
THIS GUYS A STRAIGHT BEAST
it pretty fun to play a little simple groove, really get going, then suddenly make strange noises in a flasetto voice. it sounds hilarious, and if you do it right will cause most people in a room crack up.
very very nice!!!!!!. good job
no that was amazing
I’m gonna have a concert with him today!❤️
Viking style. :P
Классно! Большое спасибо... 👍
I played didgeridoo for a while then picked up tuba so these techniques just came naturally it is really fun to do once you get the hang of it.
The singing and playing at the same time is called Multi-Phonics, Its very hard to explain on how to do it, it literally is just singing and playing, you will have to try it. While your playing, try singing the letter O into the tuba. The part where it sounds like hes a percussion tuba, pretend like ur spitting seeds into the tuba and thats the basics.
I need to meet this man
I just heared this piece at a small concert in a cloister (o.O) where I sang, too. I'm sure a great part of the audience (about 60-80 years of age) expected pious church songs (like the one I had to contribute -.- ) and was a little bemused :-P. But especially some of the other young musicians, like me, were quite amazed, very courageous to play a piece like that there... But it rocked! :-)
Thanks to this song i think ive had my first eargasm :)
my washing machine when I put too much clothes inside:
i need to practice more on tuba god damnit XD
teh awesome
Well as one who frequents multiphonics, (singing and playing), I can tell you that a lot of these guys are right. A relaxed throat is necessary to achieve the desired result, but there is more to it. You need to spend time just buzzing and singing with the piano to really get it to relax. And when its called singing it is a little inaccurate, it's more of a hum. But hum and buzz sounds sexual.
I'm done being a tuba major....lol
amazing
iam frustrated. He is so good that I want to trow my tuba out of the window.
i love him xP
what kind of viking black magic is this
