About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.
Release the quackins! Always makes me smile.
The Hoop-coop has 100 positive possibilities that I've thought up..I'm in love with the hoop-coop.
Jenny cow cat😹
I had a very large male Siamese cat that would run up me & lay across from one shoulder to the other & do my housework with me.. He also loved to suck my earlobes 🙄😆 cats are so goofy.
Bundle up, stay warm, Morgan.. ❤️ the hat.
💞🙋🏼♀️🐈🐕
I remember when you were using a sled to transport the water in the snow. You have accomplished so much!
Your honesty, lately, is very apparent!! Pulling back the curtain often bc of your "conversation" with the unhappy farming viewer has changed your approach. Everything doesn't have to be explained. Love you Morgan...just the way you are!!
Ginny has her favorite spot back up on your shoulder! Bet you can't wait to finish the barn, I know I can't wait to see it's completion. Cows look nicely settled in, and it's good to hear you have some free time for the holidays. Thanks for taking us along Morgan, see you soon!
Your large white farm dogs make me smile. I too have a male and a female Maremma. Their personalities are very much like Toby and Abby Dog. The male is laid back and just a big floof; very good with poultry and other animals. The female is intense and stubborn. Loves to throw herself on the ground for tummy rubs. I got her as a puppy first and raising her was incredibly challenging. Getting the male as a partner made a huge difference although she beats up on him a lot. They are both neutered. We are all doing very well now but it was touch and go at the beginning.
You know I would love a book from Pablo's perspective after the lil barn cat book.
It sounds like the perfect read too ❤️
@Gold Shaw Farm Morgan, I have two suggestions for you. 1) have you considered getting a Milwaukee air compressor to blow out the water hoses with? It’s battery powered and is easy to tote around. 2) have you considered buying pipe insulation for the water pump that connects to the hoses?
😂 It's the rush hour traffic on the Long Island Expressway for the birds. Absolutely adorable! ❤
As someone that uses that highway everyday from the Hicksville/Jericho exit to the queens border, I can 100% agree.
Vermont looks almost magical during the winter. I hope you're staying nice and warm, Morgan! Greetings from southern California (It's so cloudy)
I love watching your winter videos from Hawaii, it gives me a taste of that cozy winter vibe.......but mostly makes me glad that I don't have to deal with winter anymore lol
Ginny the Parrot Cat is looking adorable today.
Loving the music in your videos recently. Love the strings in the beginning. So dramatic!
Glad you like them!
A great task to do in the winter is to clean a line in the forest, like a trail for when you do post your land in the fall. It's easier in the winter with a good pair of "raquette à neige" (I don't know how to say it in english) and a good chainsaw can do the trick. There's no insects and no leaves to obstruct the view. We were doing this every winter with my family when I was a child.
Use the prunings to feed animals too
Blessings everyone everywhere and always
they’d be called “snowshoes” in english
Joey Ramone! Boys just wanna have fun!
The boys were so exuberant for their new hay!😅
Winter chores are also lots easier on a gloriously beautiful morning! In a blizzard, not so much....
Yes they are!
it seems to be like you said. if one is prepared the winter is the calmest part of the year. however if something disastrous happens it's the worst time of the year for it to happen.
I love the awkward, chaotic rush of the birds. They’re so funny to watch! This is your daily reminder to name a future black duck “DARKWING DUCK”! 😂
Ok I just gotta know WHERE you got that awesome hat!?!?!? I REALLY want one!!! Oh and ty for the awesome video... Happy holidays Morgan...Love you❤❤❤
Oh, Morgan, I just LOVE that beanie. What a fantastic funny hat. Well done mate
I like how the geese attitude seems to go dormant in the wintertime. They just stand right next to the ducks and chickens and eat out of the same bowl happily.
No babies to protect?????
Blessings everyone everywhere and always.
I love winter! The snow. Things smell so different. I love to see all the cows at the barn. It has an awesome look of years gone by. And seeing Ginny leap on your shoulders again for a face smooth, makes my heart go all gooey. My lovely Ginny. My great grand son will be by this afternoon. He demands to see Mr and Mrs Frizzle. So even a new generation loves your program. Thank you Alison and Morgan. 😊😊❤❤
My husband complains the most about his winter chores. He has feeding the cows and snow removal and very rarely breaking ice from the water tank- it's well water fed. 🤷
Awesome hat!
I love your hat ❤
Your structures are more solid, and your big barn is in better shape too.
I can't wait for when you tap the maple trees. I love the beauty of the trees all covered in snow
OMG, I ❤ your hat, Morgan!
All of this farming is made so much easier with machinery, electricity and plumbing - imagine all of it being done by the labor of human and other animals: horses, oxen, mules, etc. People were tough back then!
I’ve noticed those who heat by wood stove, usually with wood gathered from their land, spend a lot of time chopping and splitting.
1st off. We're not animals Second. It can be done in a good size apartment.
3rd no machinery needed
4th as far as I know, it can only be done if meat eating
I forgot what the fifth one was.
Brb
Many grand enormous amazing blessings everyone everywhere and always.
Won't have to waste time going out for gym membership
I'm thinking there's 10 comments to this but I'm forgetting the rest.
Blessings everyone everywhere and always.
@@MissBetsyLu We are animals tho
Well humans might just go through that again, depending on what happens in the next 50 years or so
USE a INSULATED water heater blanket cover For your outdoor faucet!!
Styrofoam cap to put on outdoor faucet also.
Blessings everyone everywhere and always.
God bless you and your family ♥️👍💯
Love from germany 🇩🇪🙏🥰
Jingle cats, Randy Macho Man Savage the 1st and a snowy farm 😊 loveeeee it Morgan ❤Still no freaking snow here in my part of Canada 😢😂
That rooster is gorgeous!
Thanks for the Weird Truth of farming video Morgan 👍
Old F-4 II Shoe🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing Morgan.
I love that I do not live in such a cold winter place, but enjoy watching your animals and how they seem completely happy in their environment. One question about the barn and drainage of melt/rain off the barn - Have you considered the feasibility of a gutter system along that side of the barn roof to encourage water to run off in a slightly different direction? Since I have no experience with long stretches of snowy weather, I don't know if it is even feasible or if it's more trouble than it is worth.
Direct it to what??
Pond?
Runoff?
Holding tanks somewhere???
Blessings everyone everywhere and always.
Rather than replacing the stairs on the weird chicken coop, just wrap each of the treads with sisal twine.
Efficiencies is where it's at! I love my automatic waterers that never run out of water for all my animals and my long-term feeders for my birds!
Oh boy, I just love your hat 😂
The winter is nice! There was a lot of cute moments in the video. You should sing more often, I bet Pablo liked your song. Btw I'm getting your book for Christmas.
Thank you so much!!
Your farm animals are really sweet ❤
You have a lovely melodic singing voice, and you are on pitch. Maybe consider a song in your next audio book?
Love the hat
I love your new hat.
The hoop coop looks alot like duckberg from duck tales...❤❤❤ 😊😊😊
From my point of view... if you are dressed appropriately, outside chores are no problem. When I visited my grandfather in Pennsylvania, I could walk around in a pair of boxers with a tank top, however when it started snowing, it was a no go and I went back in to put warmer clothes on. When living in south Georgia, winter felt so much colder, was from the lower temperatures plus the high humidity. Now that I am in Oklahoma, I don't know how to dress. Without the humidity, it doesn't feel as cold, until the wind picks up.I used to work outside for 8 hours a day and when I dressed appropriately, a good inch or 2 of ice and giant piles of snow was no problem, except during a blizzard. No body should ever be outside in a blizzard, that was absolutely painful. But stay warm and safe out in the cold winter weather ❤❤❤
You need to build a porch on the ugly chickens cell. Yeah I know they have another name, but I can't remember it and that is what it reminds me of.
Your cow yard is that full of crap in 6 weeks. Humm, time to think of new system, including a cleaning schedule more often than the off season.
I'm not trying being mean Morgan just in couraging you to make changes in not so subtle ways.
You do - do a good job for your your animals and improving their housing. And I have become a very loyal watcher enjoying your way of farming in Vermont.
Few months ago i asked u if u can implement celcious degrees in ir videos, and u did in like next video i would like to say thx and also i would ike to notice its good to see cattle horns are growing so big, i feel like it was yesterday u got them xD
Thanks Morgan..I enjoyed this eposide ..Merry Christmas 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it
Love seeing your videos!
Morgan, what if you had an eavestrough installed along the front of the barn with rain spouts to catch the rain and use elsewhere on the sides? Even extra drinking water for the cows.
Watched this video on my smart tv. It does not let me like the video. So I’m just checking in again to like it. 😊
You're the best!
Excellent music as always!
Thanks again!
Love my Toby Dog book!
American common people seem to have lot to learn. I live in Artic Circle Lapland and the furthest north highland cattle farm that I know is 250km north from here. For example sun doesn't go up at all there between 12.10-1.3. And there is ton of snow usually. Those cattle spend outside most of the day 24/7/365.
I thought the dogs killed a coyote at first from the thumbnail lol. Was gonna be like "awesome job Abby and Toby! Lol
Lovely hat!
That's a stunning new barn!
You knew that chickens come the red jungle fowl of the Himalayas, well India and South East Asia. Clearly much smaller than farm chickens but similar to bantams. Did you know that in the wild they can roost as high as 80ft to keep away from predators?
When I was a young teenager I had about 100 chickens and knowing how they like to roost I built roosting bars quite high off the ground. But, sadly not high enough to stop rats, or maybe stoats (?) getting into the big hutch and jumping up to nip at the chicken's toes. The chickens were super healthy but sadly had missing toes that the horrible night predators had bitten off.
I've always wanted to have some land to try chicken keeping again, and this time make roosting perches way up, why not, in tree houses? The chickens could jump from platform to platform to get up to their rooftop-high roosts far away from most predators, though we don't have bears, so don't know what you do about them? Presumably a wide platform with no grab points would be too hard for a bear to clamber past? And, maybe bears aren't interested in chickens anyway?
So, that way your chickens live way up high and are safe from predators and if you line their tree house with insulation boards, or straw bales, or something thick and warm, then they would probably be fine even in Vermont winters? Advantage? You wouldn't have to close their hutch door at night or open it in the morning! Tahdah! More sleep for one hard working farmer!
Cluck!
🐔
The dogs must love the cold
did I ever tell you that I love your usage of famous classical music? Well I do :D
Love the hat!!
Experiment with water pipe and holding tank insulation. That might help mitigate some of the water freezing.
I love the farm in winter 😊
Oh, the hat. The hat is everything! Joey Ramone nose covered in hay! lol 🐂 If there are any wee coos in the spring one just has to be Janis Joplin.
I love your beanie!!
Have you thought of building a small set of walls, roof, and opening (hut) on a hinge around the pump so you can just insulate it , then you can leave it over the the winter for insulation or access, and then move it away from the pump durig warm months?
Morgan,l love your hat. 👏
That edited clip of the real macho man is my favorite
I find winter chores are just the basics and hunkering down in between checks.
That montage at 1:58 was pretty funny.
Im hoping the chicken tractor mark II has more nesting boxes is easier to clean and more stable.
Was wondering if some heat tape around the water spout would work, for those sub zero days.
I;ve been meaning to mention but I"m a great procrastinator. If you make the people door in your hoop house a I think a dutch door it would keep more heat in. you could make the half very low . Instead of leaving a whole people door when you leave it open you could just leave the bottom open.,
.
Jeannie the barn-cat is one of the animals in your videos that makes me happy 😍😊the other animals like Ralph and Bruce the goose , Toby and abbey dog and weird chickens flock are also interesting 😃👍
we call the spikey shoes for "Brodder" in norwegian
6:12 those are some very big salad tongs! 🤣
Morgan I know you know what you're doing but please never underestimate your bull. My brother was gored by our bull out of nowhere. We can't predict human behavior. We damn sure can't predict animal behavior. Do you ever do hoof care? Of check to make sure nothing has worked its way into their hooves?
The randy savage montage 😂😂😂😂😂
just for curiosity. i know you wouldn‘t do that but if you would sell your farm, and move backt to the city, would you have to work again or would the money be enough to live for the rest of your life? since you built a new barn and enhanced the value of the property. keep up the good work! greetings from switzerland! :)
Let’s see, purchased for ~$350k, sunk around $150k into structures, could sell for neigh $1M. If Alison continued to work as a FNP, but in a higher paying area AND Morgan reinvested the money taking out a small portion annually … no, would still need an income stream because they would either be living in another high cost of living area or Alison would be commuting.
8:23 Ginny’s favorite perch
Here comes Pablo Claus! 😻🎄☃️❄️
"Why would I want to farm in such a cold place as Vermont..." *laughs in multiple generations of farmers in Northern Finland*
Lololololololol.
Vermonters could probably answer question that also.
Blessings everyone everywhere and always
Hey Ralphy boy! Art Carney to Jackie Gleeson. Anyone remember the Honeymooners?.
Oh yeah!
I can't concentrate on the video and what you're saying, Morgan... This hat is hilarious!👍🏼🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😁
I’m surprised you don’t have a team of chickens in the barnyard to break down the poop there.
Did you resume training Macho Man with the halter ? I remember you saying it was easier while they were in the yard.
Yup
@@GoldShawFarm don't try to sound uneducated, it makes you look fake
Blessings everyone everywhere and always
Another reason the farm chores are easier now is because you put in the infrastructure and tools over all these years to streamline the chores. 2018!Morgan probably had to devote more time in comparison to 2023!Morgan.
You have a nice singing voice 🙂
However, the Jingle Cats clip should have an earworm warning.
The cream of the crop, rises to the top.
do you guys ever take a vacation and travel. you guys could probably use a nice tropical vacation with umbrellas in your cocktail.
Occasionally
I know I am late in commenting - as I have been away doing December travelling until yesterday, and now catching up all the videos that I missed - given Joey and Macho man have been so close together all the time, would there be problems to Macho man one day if Joey need to go to the butcher? Just wondering.
Those randy savage clips really tickled my funny bone
Hello, it's been awhile, last video I saw was when you were planning that new barn, how things going?
Good! Barn is done!
I started watching when you "challenged" yourself to feed n water. Now that you rose to the challenge, it's much easier.
I'd like another story though, thanks
I’m wondering about mold in the hay bales. The cattle don’t have issues with it? How do you deal it with it?
They just ignore it, but really isn’t significant mold. I compost the old moldy bales.
@@GoldShawFarm interesting. Thank you for sharing your farm with us.
Been following for a while. And love you and Alison and all the animals I would buy your merch but the colors don’t work for me. If you want suggestions please let me know. ❤❤❤❤❤
What happened with the pigs?
Always niice musuc!
what happens if the wild birds like wild ducks or wild turkeys stay around your flocks and become part of your flocks?
Didn't know you could sing 🎶laàane🕺🎵
Hi Morgan. The music in the background while you are talking is crazy distracting. Like the first min or so of the video
Happy solstice season
