This would great as an accompaniment to deep freeze. Shop your oldest food in chest freezers, you know the stuff that gets lost. Using the drawers to eat the oldest first. Just little more organized.
I read that a lady would take it out into her driveway cuz it was in her garage and spray it with a hose and defrost it that way. I just ordered it and it will be here tomorrow I'm worried about all that
Comments like these are just dumb. If you want all the fancy features you have to spend close to double the price of this freezer. It’s like going and buying a ford and complaining it isn’t a Ferrari
This would be much more expensive if it was frost free. It would also use more energy and thus cost more to run. The BEAUTY of this is that since all of your food is in those convenient drawers with handles on the sides, all you have to do is take out all the drawers about once a year, stack them up on each other, get your blow dryer out and defrost it in about 15 minutes, Easy peasy. Then just slide the drawers back in and done.🙂
Thank you for taking the time to do such a thorough review. Nicely done. 👏 I love how organized you made it. I could see putting two next to each other If a family needed even more room. Take care.
Has anyone had the Hamilton Beach 11cu. ft. long enough to require manual defrosting? I bought one without being aware it was not frost free, so before I decide on whether we will be returning it, I wanted to get a better understanding as to frequency for defrosting. Thanks for any feedback.
Manual defrost is much better for longer term freezer storage as it doesn't go through a warming cycle. So most of the standalone freezers are manual because they keep frozen food better. My concern with this one is that the frost will lock in the drawers so you can't get them out or have them slide easily.
We just bought one at Costco, it is the same as yours. It is Manual Defrost, how do I perform the Manual Defrost, do I really need to take all the frozen foods out and put them somewhere else until it is totally defrosted and put the foods back into the Freezer???
I got rid with no regrets at all of my chest frezeer 25 years ago for an Liebherr (quality German Brand) upright 7 drawer frost freezer and in all these years I had Zero problems ....and enjoyed the drawers easy and perfect organization that you can get .... do Just normal maintenance with manual defrost once 6/12 months and it will last truble free at least 30 years..... The upright frost free freezer have a much more complicated defrost sistem with sensors/heater ant timers that can have problems after 4/6 years.. and the electricity bills are higher...). My only suggestion is to have 2/3 freezer themometers (one on the top drawer, one in the middle and one in the bottom drawer), so you can set the termostat on the top of the freezer at the correct temperature required .... One final consideration about the upright freezers...THE ONES WITHOUT DRAWERS in 2024 ARE A NON SENSE . A LOT OF ENERGY WAISTED EVERY TIME YOU OPEN THE DOOR !!!!
Thanks for the video review. How has the freezer been for you since you’ve had it for a while now? I just saw this freezer in Costco today. But I read some online reviews saying it requires a lot of defrosting. And did you have to do a lot of defrosting as well with your chest freezer?
I order 1/2 a cow at a time. 250lbs or so of different cuts of meat. My 7 cb ft chest freezer fits 3/4 and the other goes into my kitchen freezer. Will this hamilton be able to hold the same beef?
@@Keith-e5f, the term "garage ready" in the context of freezers typically refers to a freezer that is designed to operate effectively in environments where temperatures can fluctuate widely, such as unheated garages or outdoor storage spaces. These freezers are insulated to withstand colder temperatures and may include features like a heater to prevent components from freezing in very low temperatures. This makes them suitable for use in locations where standard freezers might not function reliably.
$350 although, it goes on sale often like now, for $300. This is if you purchase it at your local location otherwise it's much pricier online I think about $450 but with free shipping. I'm in Albuquerque, NM. I think the price is pretty similar throughout the country, or at least what I've seen from people online and their experience.
A lot of people buy half a cow once a year to save money on meat. It all comes butchered and prepackaged, and from what I've read, usually about half of it is ground meat.
Think she just loves her beef. A survivalist will have the packaged food that last 25 years. When the grid goes down the beef in the freezer won't last long..

Wish they made a freezerless fridge to compliment this in a garage
I saw this one in-store, and it actually has the option to be a freezer OR a fridge, so if you buy two, you can have one of each. :)
Thank you, you helped me decide if this was being added to our home.
Also, if anyone has had to actually defrost the freezer, can you provide info on what temps it was kept at. Thanks again.
One CON on these is they are not frost free. You have to manually defrost them when ice builds up on all of those elements above each drawer.

@tinalouiseking true, just extra work people should be aware of. Not impossible.

It doesn’t say this unit is frost free

I love you using gloves! I can't wait until my current chest freezer dies so I can quit digging around.
I'm not waiting till my chest dies. I'm replacing mine this week with the stand up!
I didn't wait either. sale at Costco only$299

Thanks for the review. It's definitely a must-have for me.
Be careful with Hamilton beach. I bought one and it failed me with 75%full capacity.
How cold does it get, -10 or only 0? Thank you!

@ It's in the basement.
Thank you so much for this detailed review

Is it a standard plug? I’m assuming so. I do have a refrigerator in the garage as well and I don’t want to blow some fuses.
Yes standard plug
Our 7 cf chest freezer is great, but so much gets lost at the bottom! I love the standup organization
Same here! I've had to use clear large bags and group the items by category. Chicken pork etc otherwise yes they get lost
I got one too, and the compressor it’s not quiet at all. Just fyi for those who may be bother but the humming noise of a freezer

is your door hard to open? mine takes way too much force
It's vacuumed sealed so it takes all the air out. It's hard to open because of that.
Ola una pregunta oy en el mes de octubre 2024 es ta en ese presio grasias qiero con prar uno meurje grasias

Should hold 15-20 pounds in each drawer. That's being vacuumed sealed tightly.
what about frozen pizzas? I'm afraid the drawers are too restrictive and can't get creative when stocking the freezer?
How is this a year later?
Can you tell me if this is a manual defrost of a automatic defrost. Thanks
Manual defrost
Hi, thanks for this video. I got it yesterday and plugged in today. Does yours get really hot on the sides, outside?
Mine the same
is the handle reversible????
I forget if the temperature dial is 1 for the lowest temperature setting or highest.
Excellent review. Thank you
Will it fit a box of jacks pizza
What’s the deal with all the ground beef?
It's cheaper and most everybody likes it
Can anyone confirm if this freezer is garage ready? Not all freezers are.
What does garage ready mean?

@@samuelonthewall I just saw it in store...it says 'garage ready'
Probably close to $1 a day to run one of these in Florida
Great review!
Are the size of yours ridiculously hot? We just bought it and connected it and I burnt my hand touching the sides of the freezer
Can you imagine if it came in black!!!🤩😍
7481 Hackett Shoals

Mines failed on me amd I had 75% of it filled with fish and cow.. broke my heart

My neighbor just gave me one for free.
My goodness, 75 pounds of frozen hamburger. Is she a survivalist? I did notice she is wearing a camo jacket ! 😏
