Watching the video again this is actually very clever because what they have managed to do is provide a good level of automation but at the same time ensuring that the driver remains somewhat engaged because they will need to look in their mirrors (and blindspot warning notification) to take advantage of the automatic lane changing capabilities. This is far better than having to mess around with indicator sticks, etc. It appears to make the whole experience rather seamless.
I’ve always loved the 5 series and so far it looks like the new models will be really nice and a guaranteed hit. I’m really interested in seeing the unveiling of the M560? And the M5. I kind of wished that I would of held out until the new 5 series models where available before buying a new car. I think they are the perfect size for comfort.
I'm was already very pleasantly surprised with the Driving Assistant Professional in my G31 LCI 540i. It already allows you to keep your hands off the steering wheel for a bit. But this is on a whole nother level. I can't wait to test it myself and I think I already know which car I'm going for next...
the assistant on the G31 is still a bit unnerving. It loses track often when driving past a highway exit and it tends to go through shallow corners like a 'saw tooth' instead of picking the right line and sticking with it. Once you're used to it, the driving assistant is a nice relaxing feature. But I can't wait for a better, more confident version.
10:17 wow so it tells you that you should go out the exit by looking at your destination in your map? Also why does it go down to level 2 from there? And what does level 2 do?
As always great review and happy that you get to be the first to handle this baby. A question pls, how do you compare the G60 to G30 when it comes to handling around corners, steering feel and ride quality? I have a 540i 2023 and very impressed with the body roll and how stiff it is on road bumps.
Too early to tell. This was an electric version, so very different. But as far as body roll, very good, slightly only. And pretty stiff on the road. I tried both the steel and the air suspension.
Impressive! For how long do you need to look in the side mirror to confirm lane changes? I tend to check the side traffic without having the intention to switch lanes…
What happens if you're using complete hands free driving on the highway and a traffic jam appears? Will the cruise control cancel? Will the car brake/stop without manual braking and restarting cruise control?
I hope it all works as explained. I drive an expensive BMW, late model and Car Play disconnects every few minutes throughout the day. It's angering. And the time that I have wasted going to the dealer for help is frightning. Come on!
2:41 a bit stupid notice: if one ever drive i5 he/she should know that its 2 lane very narrow highway. You will have NO luxury to relax or distract there. Its so funny when eoropeans argue about States driving experience, omglol 🤣
You will be lucky if you get it at all. In europe we wont get it. BMW is good at demo’ing fancy tech but not delivering it globally. They dont make any effort to get legislative approval in various countries.
@@bmwblog as a new iX owner I think BMW is falling behind Tesla and Rivian because they create features MYR specific which is the old way of building cars. And the reason why from a software platform perspective Tesla, Rivian are miles ahead
@@bmwblog Thanks so much for your response. Great job in bringing us this content. Also, I saw your video recorded a week ago where you were in i7 testing Level 3 system which requires new hardware for LiDAR and acceleration/brake system. So does this Level 2+ also requires same hardware ? If not can we expect this to be OTA in future for iXDrive50 2024 models regardless whether they are on iDrive 8.5 or 8. ?
Nope. Only rear, but its not adaptive. Its only for leveling the car. Its nowhere near the i7 airsprings. Which is an absolute shame because almost every car at the new 5 series level, has optional air suspension. Really a shame.
Hi, i have a question, i bought an I5 e40 in Portugal and i literally put every extra, including the best autopilot, but my i5 won't change lane when i try it, do you know why?
Tesla had lots of time to manage and fine tune efficiency. They are only EV producing so I expect them to lead in efficiency. With BMW and others who started with ICE vehicles and introduced EVs into their fleet, I think efficiency will evolve. I think there is a point still in purchasing a BMW (Merc, Audi, etc.) despite efficiency not being on the same level as Tesla. That distinguishable point is luxury and legacy. I have both a Tesla Model S and M550i and at this time I still choose my M550i every time.
They should give a disclaimer saying that 99% of countries wont support this lol. I drove an i7 with every option available and it doesnt have this function at all
i7 failed already? Didn't it just launch last April? I read several articles that stated the i7 is responsible for 43% of all 7 Series sales in Q1 2023.
#conspiracytime All the new cars collect so much data on us. I saw yhat Merc even has a camera on the dash. I think the tech is really cool. My issue is i dont trust that my data is protected. If something happens who owns the data? Can the police force bmw to give my data? Its nice to have tech but we meed protection for the users.
Laughing at the fact they're making a big deal out of their "special sensor". It's just a capacitive sensor. Plenty of other brands use the exact same thing...
But, would you rather a Corolla or an i5? I think those who can afford to buy a feature rather have it for free in a subpar vehicle wouldn't care as long as they have the desired experience when driving a vehicle of their choice.
What do you think of the lane changing feature?
Very impressive.
Anything that encourages drivers to actually look in the mirror before changing lanes, isn't a bad thing ;-)

Sounds good and quite mature.
Another gimmick to make up for terrible driving dynamics (for a BMW). Zero steering feel and huge body roll.
Can’t wait for the unveiling of the new 5 series

I hope BMW’s software update strategies include rolling some of these new features out to existing i7 models.
I think they will come to the 7 Series
@@bmwblogtill this day, nope.

Endlich Mal ein ordentliches assist Level 2+
Agreed
Will this Highway Assist Level 2+ add into i4 later?
This is german engineering, goot job BMW
I got the i4 last year. I would have considered the i5 if it had been out. Had a 530e before the i4.
You're fine, the first i5s won't come until really late this year
10:17 wow so it tells you that you should go out the exit by looking at your destination in your map?

Exactly. Yes, it goes to Level 2. That level only allows you hands free for a few seconds at a time

I think he said the X7

Is this only for i5 or other 5 series as well
For all 5 Series models
How do you activate it? I can’t find how to activate it.
