I can imagine it. If someone has a really extensive army of clones and all the other rare figures, then he must get the Rex figure. But at that point 600 dollars would be peanuts. Talking about a whole other level of income here. But if it is just your average Joe then 600 is insane just for the figure. I got a few sets of the 501st Battle pack and the second pack. As well as the Interceptor set with Anakin. The Bark speeder set another 2 501st troopers. Got the 25th figure that comes with the Tantive boarding set. So now with Rex I actually got a nice little battalion. But like I said. Some people actually got a whole army with hundreds of clones. Then having that Rex is the pinnacle. Yet I'd never in my life would spend 600 just to get a figure. And they know it. Reselling the Venator for almost full prince WITHOUT Rex... Then yeah... You already know the figure isn't worth it.
Because he might have gotten himself like 4/5 Venators. Wait for the set to discontinue and then it would go for 1000,1200. Now it will max hit 800. Lego does not want scalpers to put their product in closets and storage units. And basically flood the market with overpriced items. Making sets much harder to get when it is still running. They hit the goat, now Rex. Anything else they will probably do the same. Stop scalping.

If you are bummed that a part of your Venator set now is less rare, I get it. But Lego sells Lego. Stores sell Lego. Not bearded basement dweller taking lego figs out of sets and reselling them... It is seriously bad practice. And if someone got a Venator on discount, sells the Rex for top buck, basically has a lot of cheap parts to use for mocks. That just isn't cool. Or worse yet, some would buy the sets, put them in the closet and wait for the set to discontinue. And try selling them for a 1000, 1200. Because it got Rex in it. And that last one is the biggest concern for Lego.

I think Lego needs to find a balance with 'exclusive figures'. Popular characters like Rex should never be exclusive. Now the other figure, Admiral Yularen is perfectly fine being only in the Venator. I think the value of Lego stems from the playability and creativity that comes from them. Anyone more focused on the monetary value isnt a Lego fan in my book, completely agree.
Nothing Lego makes should be THAT exclusive ever again. They cut down the goat, and now Rex. They should keep doing this. So people will never go above and beyond what a set is actually worth. Ofc discontinued sets with rarer pieces will go up on the market. But not just the figure. Goats went for 100 dollars. C'mon now. Might as well buy a real one at that point.
Your point I think is totally right, as a kid I loved lego and loved collecting sets and minifigs, but missed out on a lot of stuff I wanted because it was just too expensive. Including more cool and beloved characters in cheaper sets is a great thing for those that can't afford a premium price.
Not just that, but imagine you save money, like a kid saving a 100 bucks to get himself a ATTE. And walks in the store and some scalper just bought them all. To sell them later at 200. This just isn't okay. I see it happen at my local store. They had the ATTE for under 100, and it just sold out. I cannot imagine it being just random customers. No it is scalpers that just buy up everything. And if it is the higher price mark those sets are not 50/60 in store. Maybe 10 max. Adults need to get a grip and let kids have their sets at reasonable prices at stores. I really hate when people do this stuff.
Even before the release of the UCS Venator i bought a fake lego p2 rex. It had 360 printing and cloth pieces. I was just happy to have one in my collection. It didnt matter if it was expensive or rare or anything i just wanted a p2 rex 😅
5374 pieces for $650 dollars! That's 12 cents a piece! The greedy resellers were selling the Rex figure for S250 to S300 dollars! They fell in their own trap! They always do! Lego listens to the Fans, the Fans wanted a Rex figure and they got a Rex figure! The Greedy resellers didn't get the message! They still don't get the message and they will probably never get it! Greedy Resellers are not Lego's Main Focus!
The resellers already got their buck. And those that paid 250/300 got duped. Now they will think twice. The biggest cry now comes from those that are keeping like 5/6 Venator sets neatly stored mint in their closet. The set will never make double price now. Since Rex is no longer the flagship figure in the set.

Well, everyone has their own opinion, and so do I, it annoys me that there are "special" figures behind the USC sets, and it's not just the price, I have money, I bought an ARC 170, and more withdrawn in a year, but I don't have room for such big sets , I would like a USC Falcon, but where with him?! And the business Rex went up to $100 at one point.. And you buy a set of over $600 for the figure, not the display set, you must be limited. Now those who bought it are angry, I think, but 99.9% of other Lego Star Wars fans are overjoyed..

That might actually make elitists and scalpers less interested, because then the fig wouldn't be as accurate. The kind of people who complain about more people being able to get a great character for cheaper are the same people who buy a Lego set and then complain that it looks like Lego instead of a perfect model.
