For a taste of remarkable speed in college football, look up De'Anthony Thomas, Oregon Ducks. Once you see him, you'll not forget him. Search De'Anthony Thomas highlights, or De'Anthony Thomas Fiesta Bowl Opening Kickoff, De'Anthony Thomas Rose Bowl record run, or just De'Anthony Thomas, Oregon. Those searches will all lead to a show of speed and quickness un-common even to college football.
If youre looking for a speed kills video, i recommend watching the 2008 West Virginia team. They revolutionized college football. To set the stage, ive seen your videos on basic formations and whatnot. Understand, if youre not reinventing, youre behind. This was the next biggest thing since the forward pass. Their head coach was named Rich Rodriguez. He invented spread read option. Which is basically, spread the defense as thin as possible with 4 or 5 receivers. Make them cover the entire width of the field. Now, 2 safeties up top. 4 corner backs covering the WRs. Thats 6 defensive backs. The best they could do was put 5 maybe 6 guys in "the box" to stop the run. Well, now throw in this rinkle. Their QB Pat White and their RB Steve Slaton were the 2 fastest guys on the field easily. In the backfield. Rich Rodríguez gameplan was simple. Make the defense choose, and then you pick who they dont cover. The read option/run pass option is simple. The QB takes the snap and goes to hand the ball off to the RB and as he does so, he looks at the defensive line. If the running back is running to the right for example, and the left side defensive player is chasing after him, pull the ball away. You fake the handoff. The defense chose to play the run, you choose the other option. Simple? If the defender stays put, thinking the QB is going to keep it, just hand it off. 1 less guy to block. Hes 10 yards away. Not a threat. Also simple? Heres another wrinkle... defender bites on the RB, QB keeps it. Now the QB has 2 options, throw it to his WR or run it himself. So, he looks at the defensive backs. What are they doing. If they step up to try and tackle him, he just has to throw an easy pass over their heads for an easy completion. If they decide to cover the WRs, then the QB just takes off. 3 options, 1 play. Hand off to the RB. QB run. Pass play. Now, its been done since, and somewhat successfully. But never like this. Never again did we see this combination of speed mixed with the fact that it was brand new. People were confused and had no idea how to defend it. Also, for a bonus, Pat MacAfee was on this team lol Heres the best highlight reel i could find. 2008 highlights are apprently hard to come by... th-cam.com/video/JATc8-g-u6U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=N1RcikNiUxJ2ofmX
Agreed, all ACC. Can’t deny they have speed. But he needs to see some Oregon Ducks speed. LaMicheal James, Kenyon Barner, DeAnthony Thomas, there are many of them.
One thing exciting about CFB is every game counts. With only 4 playoff spots the regular season is the PLAYOFFS ! This vid will highlight that . Interestingly in the next 2 yrs, 2024 & 25, a 12 team playoff system will be experimented with .
To answer you what college team should you be a fan of... I'm going to recommend a team I personally cannot stand. Oregon. What you want is a good blend of party school, good fan base, but also dominant on the field. A lot of schools check off 2/3 boxes. Oregon is about to check all 3. They've been a good team a while, but college players being able to get paid has changed things. The schools can't pay players, so alumni are. And oregon's most famous alumni is Phil Knight... Billionaire CEO and founder of Nike. It also means that they just have the absolute nastiest fucking uniform combos alive. With all that Nike money they're buying up players that previously went to prestigious powerhouses. Also... college football usually kicks off at noon. So, from a time zone difference, that's actually doable for you. That's like 7pm. Although, if you pick an east coast team you get a 4pm kickoff? Pretty solid either way. Both things to consider tho. That timezone dif. Oregon would be my call buddy.
