3 months after Eyes Wide Shut was finished and Kubrick died in March 1999, in June 1999 the New York Post described Kubrick as a “self-hating Jew”. Instead of praising America’s most accomplished and genius director, they called him that. Speaks volumes about his final movie.

I never knew that, EWS rattled a few too many cages. The critical backlash to this film was strange. I left the cinema that evening knowing I’d seen something incredible, but I didn’t understand really what I’d been bombarded by - until I saw the film a second and third time. What is this film about really? People are still arguing about that today. That’s why it’s a great movie, we are still talking about it all these years later.
That rarely happens in any art form.
      Kubrick was incredible.

What! ?. the sound score for "Eyes Wide Shut" was very annoying to me. That just killed any interest in the movie for me. And yes he was a genius at what he did. But don't like the abuse he did on actress Shelley Duvall in the making of the movie The Shining. he had her do a scene over a 100 times. That is sick & abusive to me. Loved The Shining.

@@computerpurple In “Eyes Wide Shut” I believe he used a Romanian Boys Choir and played it backwards, to give it an eerie effect. You should check out “A Space Odyssey 2001” Kubrick pretty much invented using music to influence our emotions. I believe he was the first to do it that way. The Shelly Duvall thing sucks, but she was a grown woman and there’s 3 sides to every story.Peace

Eyes Wide Shut is about the differences between men and women, the sexual desires that the two carry, and hide from one another.
You’re looking at the surface level narrative, which is almost never what a Kubrick film is actually about. If he wanted to expose the world elites, he would have done so. Everyone already knew rich people had weird sex parties, this movie came out in 1999, not 1969.

I miss the days when Directors stood out & 1,000,000 films weren’t released each year. You had time to appreciate & those memories stay with you. Now with streaming & TH-cam,( as well as theatrical, etc), the onscreen entertainment market is over saturated. Movies come out & are immediately forgotten as the next one is debuting that same day on Netflix. Gone are the Kubricks, Cameron’s, Donner’s, Spielbergs, Hitchcock’s, etc. There are still some actively working legends left but the newest slate of Directorial talent seems to lean into a “pair” of Directors. You just need a brother (Russo Bros, Duffer Bros, Mario Bros)

They say Harvey Keitel was the first choice for Zeigler but he got mad at kubrick and said Kubrick insulted him with so many takes.. but man Sydney made that movie real.. Tom not much of actor but hes believeable and for Sydney and other great performances from Vanessa Shaw, Nicole Kidman, Rade Serbedzija, Todd Feild and great cinematography the film is a master piece..

Yes Stanly Kubrick was a genius. But he was also abusive to actress Shelly Duvall in the making of the movie "The Shining". He had her doing a scene over a 100 times. That is abuse. And i don't care if it is all for the sake of art. Loved "The Shining"

Title: "Beyond the Masks: Eyes Wide Open"
Synopsis: "Beyond the Masks: Eyes Wide Open" is a captivating sequel to the enigmatic and thought-provoking film "Eyes Wide Shut." Picking up where the original movie left off, the sequel delves deeper into the themes of secrecy, desire, and hidden realities.
Plot: Dr. William Harford, portrayed once again by the protagonist from the first film, finds himself haunted by the events that unfolded during his exploration of an underground society of masked sexual rituals. Although he attempted to leave that world behind, he discovers that the journey has only just begun.
In "Beyond the Masks: Eyes Wide Open," Dr. Harford becomes increasingly obsessed with uncovering the true nature of the secret society he encountered. He becomes determined to understand its origins, purpose, and the influential figures behind it. His relentless pursuit for truth leads him down a labyrinthine path, unraveling layers of deception and manipulation.
As Dr. Harford dives deeper into the hidden depths of this clandestine world, he encounters individuals who have experienced similar encounters and are willing to share their stories. Together, they form an unlikely alliance to expose the society's secrets and protect themselves from its powerful reach.
The sequel explores the psychological toll of Dr. Harford's obsession as he grapples with the blurred lines between reality and illusion. He questions his own sanity and faces personal dangers as he edges closer to the truth.
While the film maintains the mysterious and sensual tone of its predecessor, it introduces new dimensions by incorporating elements of political intrigue, corruption, and the abuse of power. Dr. Harford realizes that the secret society operates not just within the realm of desire and sexual indulgence but also as a clandestine force shaping the world's affairs.
In the climax, Dr. Harford confronts the leaders of the secret society, forcing them to face the consequences of their actions. The film culminates in a shocking revelation that exposes the extent of their influence and the far-reaching consequences for society as a whole.
"Beyond the Masks: Eyes Wide Open" serves as a psychological thriller that challenges the audience to question the nature of power, secrecy, and the hidden motivations that drive individuals and institutions. It explores themes of enlightenment, disillusionment, and the constant struggle to maintain one's integrity in a world of deception.
Note: This is a fictional idea for a sequel and not an actual announcement or confirmation of a film in development.

Pleaseeeee, ....worthless talk...the movie is made for people... to make money...and NOT for stupid, absurd critics & professionals...
You as an actor prepare for the role...for each take...
The best answer for these characters...is the Renaissance man= Mr. Clinton Eastwood...few takes, ...limited time of making the movie...and ....and....and...all his movies are the best...
You have maniac & unprofessional directors who do 30 or more takes...and in the end...the performance of actors gets worse...
The movie was / is great...Tom was great. Sydney Pollock was great, too....and unfortunately, Nicole Kidman was horrible...
