      Question: Does rapid scientific research and innovation actually help in improving human welfare at a psychological level?
      My opinion: In the modern world, in order to gain basic resources like food, water, shelter, mates, etc; one has to contribute competently in further innovation, directly or indirectly. The basic purpose behind innovation and research is to feed the world with inventions and breakthroughs that can be SOLD or earned off of in any way. Organisations work on space exploration, but for what? If we save the human race from extinction, that only keeps up our existence, not quality of life. Firstly what we wish to protect must be worthwhile. Humankind, in passion to comfort itself by scrapping the environment in all ways, isn't necessarily gaining the contentment that it instinctively desires.

    I have 4 kids, and I've noticed changes after each one was born - on the outside, my hair got darker and more wavey, and seems to grow more quickly, and my nails also grow more quickly, but are thinner and more brittle (I keep both hair and nails cut short now!) - on the inside, I've become more compassionate, more contemplative, less willing to take risks, and far less tolerant of physical discomfort (like sleeping on the ground, for example). With the growing up of my fourth child came a sort of re-awakening of self, however, and I am now actually developing and cultivating my own interests, rather than being completely child-centric 24/7/365.
    Happy Mother's Day!!

      @ryleeroo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      CoriSparks that doesn't work if you're talking about the love parents have for their children or the love between two platonic friends. The parent/child relationship makes sense in the way that you need your offspring to survive, but simply caring (or loving) random people (friends) you simply choose to like doesn't really have anything to do with reproduction. Survival with their help leading to reproduce maybe, but not reproduction directly.

    Why do some moms not care about their children, then? You know, the one's that let their children get raped; or the ones that get pissed off and kill their children? That's what I don't get. I've run into a lot of parents, both mothers and fathers, who just don't give a shit about their kids. I wish someone would explain how that works.

    • @BlueSkies30
      @BlueSkies30 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Well, hormones can only go so far, even if they're working properly. Mental illnesses, the way they grew up/what life problems they have also come into play. People who don't get love can't be expected to give love. And people who are mean and cold can't be expected to either. Hormones aren't magic.

    And what happens to the brain and all of that oxytocin/dopamine if you have a stillborn? I feel the polar opposite of the "Warm fuzzies" when I see a baby, and I seriously wonder how that will effect my future.

    • @BlueSkies30
      @BlueSkies30 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear a lot of people say they aren't "baby people" but love their kids as much as people who are. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part. There is the saying "it's different when it's your kids". I think the difference depends on your state of mind like if you actually wanted the baby (even then, that can change once the baby's born), and environmental/family influences. I don't know how far it goes though.
      I personally have maternal instincts but my maternal side is not super hyped up with babies and I don't like the attention holding a baby gets me. I love reading about families, and want my own, but I feel much more comfortable with people seeing me cuddle pets. I will not bring babies up when talking with friends or family and rarely interact with them even when I have the chance. I've had to reassure my mother that I want kids and not just horses and dogs. And I hate that I'm expected to have kids/want them just cause I'm a woman even though yes, again, I do. It's complicated.
      Simplest advice is if you don't want a kid when the topic comes up, don't say you will, and don't expect having one to change that opinion. Nobody's required to have kids. I've known a guy who is now his 50s for over a decade since he started dating my aunt longterm. He doesn't have kids. I was 8 and my aunt's granddaughter was 2 when they started dating. He loves us both, but he never has regretted not having kids of his own. Some people just don't have that drive.

      Relatable. I wear earrings and necklaces at special events, but I just do it for the sake of fitting in and because my family insists on buying me some every Christmas. And I hate rings. Honestly when I marry someday I may end up having the ring on a necklace cause rings are annoying. Give me a gift card for the movie theater or to a store where I buy things I need/actually want. Have to admit though, I kind of like the occasional flower just cause they smell good.
