Thank to ARMCHAIR RACER for sending me this very interesting slot car

I must admit that I have never heard of Formula E (I am not an F1 fan) so this is my first time seeing this style car. It is wild! I like how the rear spoiler is part of the wheel arches. Very cool looking car! And it is electric, like the real thing lol.

Bought one. And, like the better Scalextric cars, the good far out-weighs the bad here. Starting with the good - price; nice light weight, enviro-less-unfriendly packaging; beautiful finish, super livery haven't checked scale dimensions but the model has the look of a faithful replica; nice printing; multiple spots for adding weight for non-magnet racing and a functional guide blade arrangement - looks like the blade is a fraction deeper than some earlier models. (Or is that my wishful thinking?) Some excellent innovative design in how the model is assembled including lightweight body. Passable stuff - brushes, pinion and crown gear are plastic. Quality and running issues - and typical of many Scalextric models - braids too stiff and "springy"; rear tyres are made from hard un-grippy rubber; magnet way too strong though at least it's a bar magnet; motor revved inconsistently and is probably over-powered; nose cone is single piece and will have no give on impact; pinion feels like it is slipping when car accelerates; slots for rear bushings are thin and brittle - my car arrived with one rear bushing holder snapped. Making it better - replace braids with NSR ultra soft braid, trued MJK 4205 tyres and judiciously placed weight should provide enough grip on most routed tracks, a small diameter Slot-IT 10 tooth in-line pinion should settled slipping issues. Hot glue in the bushings. PCS make a 16K FF motor that might provide a more controllable and consistent driving experience and reduce the chance of obliterating the exposed single-piece nose on lap number one. One only wonders though why softer braids, a less aggressive traction magnet and decent urethane/soft rubber tyres are not fitted as standard. Hard to see how they'd add much to the cost. The brittle bushing holders should have been spotted in quality control. Would I buy another one? Absolutely. Can these be turned into a mid-cost class when future liveries appear? Well worth a try. I see there's at least one new livery in the 2022 line-up.

There's a lot of intelligent design gone into this very much understated model. Thanks once again for the insight, Travis. You have really opened my eyes on around a half dozen or so models this year and this is certainly in out of left field as one of those. It's the proverbial **** off a shovel on track :) Other models have been what today passes as 'standard fare' whilst some others have been weird and wacky or else real pokers. You've even been given 'the bird' of late. Through thick and thin you have managed to keep the feel fresh and enthusiastic and that's been no small achievement. Thanks for a great year to date with me in terms of entertainment and season's greetings from here in England.

    I have a 2001 or 2002 Arrows and a Minardi F1 from Scalextric.
Those things are so ridiculously fast.
I have a couple of very fast FLY cars aswell like the 512 Ferrari but they don't stand a chance because the handling of the F1 cars is insane.

Super Resistant means it comes in a cardboard box. It means also that in theory it's a lower level of detail than what they'd call a "high detail car"... that's basically it.

Hi Trav! nice little car. about the motor. it is an ff long can and it wo rev at about 20000 RPM on average give or take. they go pretty good in my opinion. and it certainly made a great time on your take. if you remove the magnet you will find the car does not break so good but if you go to an 8 tooth pinion you will get better breaking. Take car Mate

Thanks for the review. The expected lower price and strength of the cars does make them a class to be considered for race groups so I will raise it tonight at our race meeting.
Looks like it may go well without the magnet but only more testing will tell. Hope there is a suitable MJK urethane tyre for it.
How will slot car racers feel about racing electric cars? Just like they have been doing for sixty years.

Thanks T for reviewing this car. I went looking for this car today because of your review and it looks like I'll be getting one online. I like the look of the car and I see it's similarly set up like the Scalextric F1 cars. I wonder if it is wider - if so that'll put it in a separate class. I like the idea of running these cars - something NEW that's FAST. Keep up the great work!!

Having recently gotten into slot cars(and finding your channel!) I've really enjoyed checking out just how deep the rabbit hole goes for the hobby! For example I didn't realise there were brands other than Scalextric and Carrera, a couple of days ago I picked up a Ninco Arrows A20 and there's also an SCX Minardi PS05 on the way! What are your thoughts on the Gen3 Formula E car?

What do you enjoy running the most 1/32 or 1/24 ? Trying to decide between the carrera digital 124 with two cars or the digital 132 with 3 car pack. Thanks

    • @thatslotcarguy
      @thatslotcarguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I would start with 1/32 as more options

    • @MR.TOYBOX

@@thatslotcarguy Hard choice . Only 200 more for the 1/24 set . It comes with 4 more feet of track and wireless controllers and two section of lane changing track. Plus it has a lot of the red and white extra width side track on a lot of the sections. . If that makes sense .
My main concern is which one is ultimately more fun to run ? Do you prefer running the 1/32 cars over the 1/24 ? If so then why ? Thanks man .

    • @thatslotcarguy

    • @MR.TOYBOX

In about 10 or 15 years I think ICE car racing will be dead except for things like Goodwood; everything else including Endurance will be EV's :( I feel so sorry for the kids now that will never know what it's like to hear a V8 or V10 hammering round Le Mans.
With Scalextric though isn't a Formula E just going to be like a Formula 1? They look similar and being electric already I would just add them to my F1 list.
