Before removing your calipers crimp the Left and Right brake hoses located underneath the rear of the vehicle with needle nose vice grips - to prevent fluid loss from Master Cylinder - dont forget to remove after re-attaching calipers.

So the inner seal you tapped in is the fluid seal and the Seal behind the Bearing is a dust seal? Did the seal that is behind the bearing just get pulled into place by the plate with the 4 bolts?

Yes it just slides in without much effort and is held in by the plate.

Is it possible to press the bearing too far down the axle shaft? recently tried doing this and the bearing would seize up and not rotate once it was tightened in and I think the bearing race didnt fully seat. Any idea what could've caused this?

It's not possible to press the bearing on too far. I'm not sure what caused the problem, but perhaps the bearing was pressed on backwards?

HEY DAN, WHAT ABOUT the rubber square gasket before the Oil Seal you tapped in? Did you not change the rubber before the new Oil Seal at the bearing?

Hey I’m not sure what rubber gasket you are referring to. Are you saying there is a gasket behind the oil seal? (closer to the differential)

I ended up leaving well-enough alone on the DIFF, content with changing the rear cover gasket. Thx, Dan@@oldvolvos

hi did you jack the car up by the pumpkin? im looking for a way to lift my 940 because one rear jack point is ruined

Yes, should be no problem jacking up from the differential, that’s how I do it on the 240. Please make sure you support the car with jack stands or the equivalent before working on it!
