@@kmole-rw6bi You need to look into things more. The easiest pool for Japan to be in would be the one in Taiwan. Korea is a tough opponent. But, yes, it is most probably easier than the pool in the Caribbean.
On the other hand, Japan has to travel half the distance of the world to Florida for the final stage, and then many countries in pool C & D have to travel a lot to Taiwan and Japan. In that case, Americans and the Caribbean nations besides Cuba are getting it easy, you know. Especially, USA always plays at home. Wow, that must be tough.
I don't know what nationality you are of, but if you are American, it's a pity you have to downplay any opponent that threatens you while casually dismissing how much you are given preferential treatment in the tournament. Americans even changed the matchups during the tournament so that they wouldn't face Japan in the semifinals and that they could face an easier Cuba. I hope you remember how infuriated the Mexicans were about that.
And above all, Japan did win the tournament, so I guess, with your logic, Japan had the easiest tournament and USA was the easiest opponent. You guys should know by now that there are no easy wins in a tournament.

Every time someone asks me why do North Americans call it the "World Series" when only one continent (well, two nations--the US and Canada) is involved, I answer, "The World Series was originally designed and intended to be what the World Baseball Classic is today."
This is basically the world's truest "World Series" for baseball. I like how it's becoming that important to these both the U.S. and all the intentional teams involved. Also does the sport well, in growing its popularity across borders and improving its appeal to younger demographics.
I'm rooting for Team US, of course, but if a team like Japan wins it (again), it'll be good for the whole sport. A nice kind of international rivalry is just what the sport needs. And Ohtani's the international sports star that Japan's never had. 👍🏾

You're right about where the name came from, but the campaign for such a "world" series was long in effect.
Baseball was huge in the radio era, and growing around the world. It's arguably one of the first things to emerge as American popular culture, around the world. Jazz, American apple pie, and baseball. That's the birth of the since-popularized image of the USA, there.
The U.S. then was still pretty eager to show up the U.K., whose games like soccer and cricket saw global appeal, even back then. A lot of jingoism behind the aim, I'll admit.
It's just unfortunate that things never panned out with a Mexican baseball league, the U.S. and Cuba butted heads geopolitically, and Asia was way too far, in a pre-jetliner world.
So, the U.S. and later Canada, it stayed.

And, frankly, it's probably better this way, given that baseball is already trying to make the sport more appealing to younger (read: less patient) audiences.
Also, it makes the series unique from the World Series. It's good to have both varieties of championships. Contrast in championship styles makes the sport seem bigger.
A playoffs-style series and then a final championship game is probably for the best.
An international tournament or the "world series" against national teams like the WBC is really fun to watch, but I'd also like to see the post season in which teams from different leagues are involved.

Yep! From 2021-2022 shouting/cheering inside stadium sports game were prohibited and everyone in Japan was following COVID19 protocols. Even in interviews, they are protected with glass partitions and staffs would clean up very often. But I think this year Japan isn't that strict anymore.
