To build better cities, ask people what they want

  • When a car driver killed four pedestrians, city officials in Berlin reacted by building... protected bike lanes. It was an attempt to show action, but it backfired because the changes caused new problems without fixing all the old ones. So the city asked a transport-planning professor to look into the matter, and he got a group of students to survey what locals want. The result could be a neighborhood with far fewer cars, and the main street could become a park.

Nice video! Berlin feels so choked with cars, but at least there is good progress being made. Greetings from Tempelhof!

To solve the last mile problem for private parcel delivery in cities, we should just deliver them to pickup points where people can walk or bike to pick up their packages. Only the big heavy stuff really needs to be delivered to your door.

So many personalities taking ownership and genuinely caring. All in an iterative fashion with close connection to the people living and working there. A recipe for success in the long run!
This was one amazing piece of journalism. Informative, concise, human and humours (the covers are wonderful).

The pacing was amazing with none of the scenes feeling dragged out(or too short) and boring me as the viewer. Huge props to the editor for the excellent storytelling. Excellent B-roll too!

I think for people on phones the top down map you showed should have a bigger zoom.
    9:45 for example.

Pretty sure I didn't nail the map this time. But I didn't want to move it much lest people not familiar with the area (= almost everyone) become disoriented. At least, that's what I was thinking.

Great video! I think you should do more self promotion; it makes a big difference in how many people interact with your videos

I recently happened upon a report from some town in the USA. They rebuilt their town centre as a pedestrian-friendly area. But since FREEDOM, the shops downtown almost went bankrupt. People drove to the suburbs instead.
I'm just happy that here, in the "land of the car", it's not _that_ bad and making towns livable actually works as intended.

I've heard a few of these stories from the US. It seems that they often expect people to drive to their pedestrian-friendly area instead of some other mall. That never works. You need enough people able to walk or bike there from their home for these to be a success.
