  • In this video I share my technique for adding ball embellishments to soldering projects. I didn’t realize at the time I’d been mislead and called this size of silver ball “granulation” - this is incorrect! Granulation uses very tiny silver or gold balls!

I'm only at 3:35 into the video but I couldn't wait to comment on 2 things... tapping the dents so the balls don't roll away was clever but I was really impressed with your custom shaker container! That's AWESOME! 👍 Thanks for sharing your helpful tips. Cheers! 😊

tammygurl64 making a center punch was introduced to me by Kate Ferrant Richbourg and the shaker my friend Ella Arey showed it!!! Isn’t that cool?!?

I taught myself how to solder and I have had a lot of learning mistakes on my curve and you explain things so easily that I have learned so much just from the few videos I've watched so far. Thank you so much for your easy application and instruction. I have so much paste solder and I get it everywhere and then nothing sticks and I end up having to pickle it and scrub it and start all over. I feel like hugging you I am so happy that I have figured out the things that have been puzzling me for so long. I have ADHD really bad so it's hard for me to pay attention to most TH-cam tutorials and yours have been not only the best but the easiest to follow so far. Thank you so much for your videos. I'm so glad I subscribed yesterday.

Love this video, tips on getting those balls to STAY! And when you want to take it to the next level, fusing gold and advanced soldering that will clean it all up: "Soldering Demystified" by Jeanette K. Caines, the two books together make an excellent start to a library! Thanks for doing this Roberta!

Coolio! Nice job! You'd mentioned you were going to address soldering onto a domed piece. Are you going to do a second video showing your way?

I went back and watched again, but didn't see that Roberta addressed doming the earring. Also, would love to see the finished earring.

I am a newbie jewelry rookie. Thank you for all your demos, tips and inspiration. I too love that cutout. Shape is beautiful. I am a long way from owning or deserving a 20 ton press. Someday. So purchasing a pancake die and punching them out is not an option. Is there a source where I can buy them?

May I respectfully suggest changing the title to ‘Soldering for a granulation LOOK’ as true granulation is fused and never soldered. Fusing granulation is commonly done with gum Arabic and used silver pickle (very blue with lots of copper oxides). Just a suggestion since this is a tutorial. You don’t want to give newbies inaccurate information or terminology.

You don't have to watch it if you don't like the way she teaches it. I happen to think that she is excellent at instruction. And whatever works is the point in the big picture.

It's organic and is cadium free, so it's not toxic.
