Bought this for my 35th anniversary GLI and it sounds amazing!!! No drone, and still sounds aggressive when I want it to, couldn't ask for more! Thanks, MBRP!!! Great job designing this!!!
Alright, so just installed this on my brand new 2021 GLI and what a total pain in the a$$ it was. I’m 46 and been a hobbyist for 30 of those years. Too many damn clamps, makes it nice for adjusting, makes it a pain to install. Fits pretty well, sounds fantastic. BEWARE, no “anti-sag” rubber exhaust isolator is included, which is a huge oversight on their part, because they have a hanger welded on there. To the uninitiated, MK7’s have an extra hanger that is not used in the US market, commonly referred to as the “anti-sag” hanger no rubber isolator is on there, MBRP uses this hanger location though, so had to go out and pickup an extra isolator. $13 part, but just a huge oversight for any poor guy installing this in a parking spot at his apartment……
@MATAKE2000 ...kinda wondering the same - just ordered mine the other day and I'd like to know if that's still an issue so I can be ready and not look like a complete pikey putting this thing on 😅
Great video! I watch way too many automotive channels and reviewers - your communication and passion show through. Also, super clean shooting all around. Congrats. Unrelated - badass product 😭. May get a GLI this Spring.
Had a muffler and res delete on mine…coming from that to this exact setup…definitely happy. The drone definitely isn’t anything like it was before…no drone really if we are being honest since every car with an aftermarket exhaust makes some kind of noise. Next step, turning off the soundaktor
Apparently people have been having issues with the tips not staying put. The couplers/clamps are allowing movement, so the tips aren't staying centred in the rear bumper cutouts
Would you guys recommend this as a first modification for a new GLI owner? I just got a GLI and I’m wondering if this would affect the engine reliability without other components. Does that make any sense?
@@MBRPexhaust-TV hey how did you get your exhaust to sit so high and snug to the car? I'm having difficulties having the pipes from the y sit up high..should I rotate that ball a bit to get the desired fit?
Can the exhaust tips be adjusted further back under the rear valance? They stick out way too far for my liking. I’m also seeing a ton of guys, here and on the forums, speak to the continued fitment issues and clamping issues. Has this been addressed or resolved? Lastly, a lot of guys are adding in a resonator based on reports of drone. Noise is subjective but I’ve seen enough people adding one in that it makes me wonder if you guys reevaluated the design. Thank you!
Adding to my comments below on other threads. Unless there's something unique to my car (stock and stock DP BTW) I found tremendous drone/'bass boom' sounds from 1600-1900rpm. Very annoying driving around town. Everything else; cold start up, warm idle, below 1600 and above 1900 I think is great. Yesterday I added a Vibrant resonator (model 1142) and it's made a big difference. IDK what the Helmholz is doing but it's not helping/working in that range. IMO, w/o a resonator added back in this just isn't good out of the box for most users. The video showing at 2000rpm is good and accurate. However coming up the gears from 1500-2000 puts out a very annoying drone.
I wish the pipe Diddnt reduce down to the stock diameter right at the downpipe but rather came with a reducer that you could take off. I have an aftermarket downpipe that is 3 in. And unfortunately that is going to be the only restriction point, other than that I love the exhaust and just ordered one yesterday
I ordered at the end of January thru a dealer and it is still not shipped so I had to cancel my order, do you guys do direct shipment to Ontario, Canada? I really like how it sounds but there are no reliable dealers here that can help me find one.
@@MBRPexhaust-TV It says, “There are no carriers that deliver to the address you selected.” I used addresses in both London and Toronto, neither works.
A word of advice I wish I would have known before buying this exhaust. In this video, they are using the stock downpipe. If you add a catted downpipe to it (CTS Turbo for mine), It basically becomes a drone-heavy, straight pipe setup lol. If you're going to do it, I recommend adding a resonator and/or valving the exhaust. CEL comes on and you'll have to try spacers or go Stage 2. Drones heavy from 1,000-2,300rpm, which is just the car searching for gears in D and on the highway in 7th gear. Even with cruise control, the entire ride vibrates to intermittent droning, especially when approaching a slight incline. So much so, that the windshield vibrates a bit when that happens.
@@AtlasFalls I can guarantee the sound aktor was on in full volume in these clips. The interior clips of this car sounded almost identical to my stock GLI. All they had to do was put the DCC mode in comfort and we would have got the actual exhaust note.

I actually personally know a local very professional service shop, just curious what my options are, or what you would recommend to get it installed properly? Thanks!
Hi! awesome vid, I think this sounds really nice. I just recently about a week ago bought a mk7 gli 35th anniversary edition, with a dfg intake. Would this setup sound similar with my current intake?
Fitment on this exhaust was terrible. Purchased in 2 weeks ago for my GLI. Clamps were trash and the exhaust was crooked. Caused a massive exhaust leak too since the exhaust inlet pipe was not measured correctly and provided clamps wouldn't work correctly. Buyer beware. main front exhaust piece was 1/4 inch off from my OEM exhaust size therefore causing an exhaust leak and bad fitment due to OEM clamp not fitting as described in the instructions.. The rest of your clamps and exhaust fitment were terrible as well which is causing the exhaust to move all around and not stay in place correctly. I can't even put on the black muffler tips because the fitment is so bad.
@@cinnamontoastclutch6653 I’ve reached out to MBRP for comments. Thanks. I’m sure my shop can handle it but I’d prefer to not have an issue in the first place.
I had mine installed professionally this week. He noted two issues which are very similar to this. 1) The front pipe is too short to allow the OEM hangers to hang straight. I did not note any issues with the size of that pipe. 2) The Y-pipe clamp is simply inadequate. There was not enough clamp screw movement to really tighten properly. I think that's what John is referencing. Without getting it tight there everything moves around. Eventually my guy got it snug but I'm not happy and very concerned over long term issues. I had no other fitment issues or with the tips. I have reached out to MBRP with my input and am awaiting a reply.
