Twice enthralled, if you hear the dearly departed master, Noël Lee play them. The above interpreter plays too many (#2, #3) of them w-a-y below the best speed, tempo.
He seems to think that Field meant "nocturne" as in "soporific." With a "nightcap."
Not good, or very insightful of their livelier poetic beauty. Misses the point of the triplets additions at the end of #3, which is very stirring when played faster, not sleepy, as it is here. Zzzz.

Field is incredibly beautiful,🎹what a gift to us.
By contrast, the interpreter John O'Conor is often soporific, we wonder if he's playing in his sleep.
I first was mesmerized by these over 50 years ago, Noel Lee the great interpreter. He played #2 and #3 so gorgeously, about twice the speed of O'Conor, emotionally speaking, if not literally.
O'Conor plays them like lullabies or dirges, nocturnal sleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzz........

Repent and put your trust in Jesus.
We've all sinned and deserve Hell.
Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, defeating death and sin.
Since we broke the law, Jesus paid our fine. Since he paid it, we can be let go.

I dunno, I first heard the 2nd Nocturne played by the great (and, recently, late) Noel Lee in 1970 when I was first studying piano in late teens, on my way to playing recitals in my twenties, and Lee brought out its mysterious nocturnal vibe so unforgettably. I later recorded that and the fabulous incandescent 3rd, also mysteriously high-borne and nocturnal
And I still remember, well, first hearing the 2nd on the iconic KFAC in LA, in the wee hours, just mesmerized. Went out searching for the LP the next day, found it in a bin at a Wherehouse records on the student-friendly budget label, Nonesuch. So many great unforgettable performances.
And there are many others, all poems.

@@johnervin8033hey! Since you have studied a bit about piano and music , i would love to know , from your point of view, how do you exactly define a Nocturne ? Is the definition by google a correct representation ? :) thank you!

    • @johnervin8033
      @johnervin8033 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@arshbani Hey! Right back at ya:
Wikipedia has a good article about it:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nocturne
That said, as they say: a nocturne as a musical form is any work suggestive of the night, in some expressive sense. Those of Debussy and Faure and the "Nachtstucke" of Schumann really draw that out! Chopin of course.
John Field seems to have coined the word for his nocturnal poems, as the wiki about it suggests.
The second of those is so very nightly themed in its poetry.

I didnt know that this type of music had a specific category named as Nocturne. As i was a little bit dismissive before, i used to think Nocturne came under the umbrella term of Classical music! :"D but now i understand the difference nicely! Thanks again :))

@@adentse6909 Too true, though the first time I heard Field, in 1970 played by the late great Noel Lee, I felt much the same. Where has the Irish Chopin been all my life! I was just studying piano for the first time, 18, and some years later I played these in recitals, some of them. I recorded the second & third, ineffable poetry they always are and ever shall be.
Field had all the poetry of Chopin without the tubercular undertones (such as the funeral march). But it took me years to fully absorb the redeeming greatness of Chopin. An immortal original.
Field? It took about 3 bars!
(Heard Noel Lee played on an LP (Nonesuch?) on KFAC L.A. one late night, nocturnally enthralled, and have never got over it!)
