In late July, I spent a couple days slowly wandering through a section of the Queets Rainforest out on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. The weather ranged from light rain to utter downpour, which was stunning, but presented some challenges for photography. I managed to keep the lens dry enough to come away with a handful of photos that I love and think portray the beauty of this hidden corner of the national park well.
Video 1 of 2 from this trip.

My gosh, that forest is beautiful!
Wonderful video!!! Great channel!
Amazing work man! Keep doing those videos, they are so relaxing to watch!
Beautiful vision and execution at 9:46. Love these style of videos.
Just discovered you on "Talking Landscapes" and had to have a look at your work which is soft and gentle. Love it. Your enlarged eyes when you met the bear probably scared it away!
Excellent work! Especially the trees in the forest quiet serene it’s really relaxing
Nice images man and always a pleasure to see wildlife out and about even scary ones 😁✌️
Nice video buddy! Will definitely be subbing! It’s a shame TH-cam hasn’t shown me your channel before now! Some lovely captures though in them difficult conditions. 🤙 I’m a woodland photographer here in the UK and I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about bears lol 😂 I was just out filming for my next TH-cam video because i love the rainy woodland sounds in my videos. I love it but I’m also on the fence about the Sony loving it lol take care matey
It was the "I'm big and scary!" for me. 😂 Nicely done.
Glad the bear had a normal response!
Beautiful light, despite the weather. In the US, you have magnificent forests. Oh well, the bear. It's his home... Very good, stay calm. They say you should 'make yourself big.' But well, try to stay put... Usually, they just go away and don't do anything. Unless there's a bear cub, then you have a problem. Great photos, man!
Love how you framed those trees in the back in your first shot
thanks :) Spent a while on that one
Terrifying?? More like very lucky to see a bear. Very nice forest photos.
Encountering a bear can be very frightening. I came within 30-40 feet of a grizzly once at Yellowstone. With all of that cover, you probably thought about it the whole walk out.
Haha I know that feeling! I came face to face with a bear a couple of years ago, luckily I had my camera on me and got a great photo to remember the moment 🤙🏼
That's awesome! It's only a matter of time before I run into one again out there--hopefully I'll think faster next time (and still not get eaten).
Oh man I know that feeling. It took me about 4 years after moving to Scotland to get over my fear of bears in the wild (there are no predators here 😅). But I still see dark objects in the distance and get that jolt of fear. Glad you are safe! Did your camera go back to normal?
And lovely mossy forest shots...dreamy!
Are the midges worse than the bears though? Hahaha.
Camera's just fine, no issues at all after that.
@@BrianLackey haha true the midges are a special form of torture
Btw you hadled the bear encounter great, nice job!
Any day I don't get eaten by a bear is a good day
The bear probably thought of your camera as a weapon pointing at him? Imagine if he decided to explore you closely? Or probably has a full stomach. You definitely have to have some personal protection to venture all alone in a thick forest, even then don't let your guard down.
Nah, black bears don't want to hurt humans. There have been zero bear attacks in the history of Olympic National Park and people encounter them all the time while out hiking.
Do you carry bear spray? Hopefully never need it, but never know. You’re right that black bears rarely attack people, usually just run off unless cubs are involved.
Nah, I'm honestly not too worried about it in black bear areas (though it was still scary to come across that one so close). If I end up exploring more in Canada, Alaska, Montana, etc., I definitely will though (and probably won't be as likely to go exploring solo).
Put gaffers tape over the hot shoe cover. I have never had that issue again.
I know what that felt like when you ran into the bear, had it happen a couple of falls ago...you do carry bearspray, right?
nah, not for black bears. There's never been an attack in Olympic NP. If I were to go into grizzly country, I absolutely would though.
