My two favorite shots shot a of Nick are the one of the wave and birds and the one from this Forrest you posted. Nick and Mr Heaton. My two favorite photographers.

I like them all, but the "wave and birds" is absolutely my favorite.....I am a beach junkie.

Editing plays such a role in those forest photos (which are great, also well composed). If I took photos there, they would not have the impact these do due to my lacklustre editing skills - must learn!

Man, that place looks amazing! Really solid advice on composition and shooting in the forest, thank you. Agreed, when that sky is bright it gets crazy contrasty up high even while you're in good shape down low. So looking forward to our wet Northeast Spring now!

Olympic National Park might be one of the more beautiful forests I've seen. You came away with some exeptional photos friend. I have a soft spot for moss cloth trees as well, and that beach.. What a day mate. Beautiful work!

Hi Nick, if you like moss covered trees, found in temperate rainforest, you'd really love a place like Tasmania. Look up places like Mount Field National park, or the Tarkine. Mount Field would be great for you as access is really easy. You don't have to hike very much to see the big trees. In mainland Australia, you also have places like that. The main one is called the Otways, about 2 hours West of Melbourne. This region is mainly known for the Great Ocean Road and the oceanscapes, but the Otway forest is nonetheless magnificent with great waterfalls, and lush forests. It is the rainiest place in Victoria.

I have done this exact trip a few times before and it never gets old. Start in Quinault, then up to the Hoh rainforest, then sunset at Ruby beach, it's different almost every time and I can't get enough! Thank you for these lovely shots, they capture the feeling so much better than my mobile! ^__^ 100% my favourite place on earth.

Thanks for sharing Nick. You had a uniquely beautiful sky at Ruby Beach. The Hall if mosses never disappoints. One of my favorite locations in the entire park. We had a similar itinerary back in September. I think off all National Park in Washingston St Olympic is my favorite because of its diversity. North Cascades definitely makes you hike and work for any image. Cheers.

Wonderful, Nick! I’ve been to both areas several times. You picked an awesome time to go to the rainforest. The summer and fall months are pretty dry so not too much very green moss. Great lesson in composition especially in the messy forest, now I can’t wait to go back again.

I was out there last weekend and had the same issue with the sun. Hiked up the Hoh trail in nothing but sun. No photos to be had with all the shadows and bright spots. Still able to get some awesome shots around Lake Crescent and the Quinault. No clouds at the beach though so I didn't stay.

I'm amazed…I didn’t think it was possible to get great images from Hoh *and* Ruby on the same day! Generally, good light for one automatically means bad light for the other, but you managed to find places in the rainforest that made for good captures even without solid overcast. Very impressive; I'd also really like seeing a tutorial video on processing some of those Hoh shots, especially the one used at the very end of your video.
