I'd say more packages are damaged in the warehouse. Loaders throw them around sometimes. Jams happen in the conveyor system. When trailer doors are opened packages fall out if no retainers are used. Etc.etc.etc.
I've found it's the perfect size for my keyfob. I'm in and out of my pockets all day long and don't want to risk pulling my car keys out and accidentally dropping and losing them, but I also want them on me at all times.
I don't think they actually take the doors off like OP said. I live in a very cold climate and all the UPS trucks here have heaters and the doors shut real nice.
I agree. Give us more of these fact shows please! They are our absolute favorite shows. We always learn something new and interesting. My wife will memorize a few of the facts she finds interesting so when she needs to make small talk she just talks about something she learned from Be Amazed and always gives them the credit. Turning right is basically just to avoid traffic lights whenever possible and you have packages you can deliver on the way. If you don’t have anything to deliver by turning right, then you just turn left no big deal. It’s just to save time, there’s no rule saying you can’t turn left.

Having run routes for 20 years, I can tell you with 100% certainty, that "right turn only" thing is B.S. Depending on the route & city / county of course, but in more cases than not, I'd spend 2-3 times more in both fuel & time itself. Idling IS a waste of fuel & time, however by way of comparison, acceleration from standstills & maintaining speed are much higher consumption factors. Having to re-route in order to make right turns only is almost always counter intuitive. Same conundrum as "leave the truck running or not." For quick runs, as UPS, USPS, DHL, etc typically do, it costs MORE to replace multiple starters due to overuse than the fuel spent while leaving & returning to the truck. Jordan in NC
You didn't understand. They use the truck routing to minimize left turns, not eliminate them entirely. You also don't need to minimize lefts at stops signs or turns in low traffic roads like in neighrborhoods.

I am a former UPS Driver. Most UPS Drivers will be dropping off And Picking up packages (and "letters") at the same stop. Also, UPS will be delivering more larger/heavier packages up to 70 pounds (or rarely 150 pounds). I don't believe Amazon Drivers make any pick ups. Our "Center" had more commercial and industrial locations we delivered to, so 80 stops was about the average. We were delivering more, and heavier packages at each of these stops. Also, we had to back up to loading docks more often. Backing, unless it is Required to do so, such as at a loading dock is Highly discouraged by UPS Management! There are very few "pure" residential routes for UPS Drivers, one or more commercial (business) are part of each route. Also, most routes are a bit flexible, because package volume is variable; so, a UPS driver may cover part(s) of an adjacent route(s) if his route is light that day, or vice-versa.
25 yrs with UPS.. Ive never seen or heard about a "package car" having the door removed. It does help save time to have the door open, but it isn't mandated by the company in my area. There are many other things that aren't covered in this video...rules about backing, space and visibility, using your horn..etc..
I actually work at ups and we have ac in our trucks and heat so the “relying on wind blowing through the doors is bs.” You are correct about the time efficiency of leaving them open so we can hop out. But we do make left turns quite often.

Because the Secretaries Demand it! Even in the Winter, many UPS Drivers are so active, we generate enough body heat, so, shorts are a viable option... I worked in the Air Division of UPS, it would be freezing out on the Ramp (unloading aircraft), then departing to make deliveries before most regular drivers would arrive at the ground Center. Many female employees where I delivered would chastise me for Not wearing the shorts, despite the cold... All the physical activity, including often climbing 3 or more flights of stairs kept me and many UPS Drivers in good shape, especially our legs...

Also , never turning left will decrease accidents by a huge % . In a bus driving safety course I took they emphasized how much safer right turns are and all the reasons for avoiding them if possible and then I learned the same in a motorcycle course I took.

I worked as a jumper for UPS during the 2013 Christmas season. My driver did follow the right hand turn only thing (with some exceptions as we were mostly in desert areas) and except the one time it rained we left the door open constantly. Personally I loved it.

The open UPS truck door reminds me of a story a high-school classmate told me (many years ago). In the city where I grew up we had 'milk trucks' deliver fresh milk to our homes early in the morning. Tommy was a 'milk runner'; he would run the bottled milk up to the houses when the truck (much like the UPS trucks) stopped. One morning when the driver took a right turn he fell out of the open door. Tommy was left riding in a driver-less truck. It ended OK, in someone's yard, no damage done.
As a former UPS driver and having had to sit in the jump seat, the doors being open is heavenly in all seasons.

I’m an Amazon driver and we average about 200 stops a day. In a smaller van. Somehow I doubt that big truck only does 130 stops

Also , never turning left will decrease accidents by a huge % . In a bus driving safety course I took they emphasized how much safer right turns are and all the reasons for avoiding them if possible and then I learned the same in a motorcycle course I took.
They teach in senior safety classes that right turns are safer, too.
Coins and condoms are generally seen as useful. Though coin use declines in Covid days, that form of cash is still legal and current; condom use is of continued social and health-based value.
Another good use? Granted bad for yeah, Lighters for them smokers. An actual good use? An emergency key if you happen to lose all your keys. Home ain't too welcoming when your locked out! Also makes good for a spare car key if you ever get distracted and lock your keys in the car. You'd be surprised what 'critical' little things you can slide into it.

I worked as a jumper for UPS during the 2013 Christmas season. My driver did follow the right hand turn only thing (with some exceptions as we were mostly in desert areas) and except the one time it rained we left the door open constantly. Personally I loved it.

I assume you've heard about covid19, Calif wildfires, The racial divide, ANTIFA, BLM, riots/burning/looting across America, not to mention the upcoming election. The open UPS truck door reminds me of a story a high-school classmate told me (many years ago). In the city where I grew up we had 'milk trucks' deliver fresh milk to our homes early in the morning. Tommy was a 'milk runner'; he would run the bottled milk up to the houses when the truck (much like the UPS trucks) stopped. One morning when the driver took a right turn he fell out of the open door. Tommy was left riding in a driver-less truck. It ended OK, in someone's yard, no damage done.
