Harry (Dane DeHaan) breaks Electro (Jamie Foxx) out of OsCorps and the two agree to work together to defeat Spider-Man.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The web-slingin' wall-crawler hits the screens once again in this follow-up to Marc Webb's 2012 reboot of the series. Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker, who squares off against the villainous Electro, played by Jamie Foxx. As the film opens, we find Richard (Campbell Scott) and Mary Parker (Embeth Davitz) stealing away with some crucial Oscorp files while leaving young Peter in the care of Aunt May (Sally Field) and Uncle Ben. Flash forward about a decade, and Peter (Garfield) is swinging into action as Spider-Man; having successfully thwarted the hijacking of an Oscorp truck by notorious Russian criminal Aleksei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti), Peter ditches the costume just in time to meet up with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) at their high school graduation. Despite his deep love for Emma, however, Peter remains haunted by his promise to her late father not to get emotionally involved with her for fear that she could be targeted by Spider-Man's enemies. Meanwhile, young Harry Osborne (Dane DeHaan) inherits OsCorp and a deadly retrovirus from his father Norman (Chris Cooper), and brilliant but timid OsCorp scientist Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx) gets infused with a powerful dose of electricity while attempting to fix a faulty power circuit in the lab. Upon regaining consciousness, Max discovers that he has the power to harness electrical currents - the higher the voltage the more powerful he becomes. When a battle with Max in Times Square shorts out Spidey's web-shooters, Peter goes to work on developing a more reliable model of his signature weapon while Harry grows convinced that Spider-Man's blood is the key to his survival. Later, villainous OsCorp chairman Donald Menken (Colm Feore) steals the company out right out from under Harry, driving the vengeful youth to break Max -- now Electro -- out of the heavily-guarded Ravencroft Institute for a two-pronged attack on Menken and Spider-Man. The stage for that battle is set when New York City goes dark just as Peter declares his love to Gwen, plunging the wise-cracking web-slinger into a fight that could forever alter the course of his life.

The fact that when he tells Max he needs him, you can tell Electro becomes Max for just a bit. He has this sense of pride knowing that someone for once in his life needs him.

What makes their team up even better is they don’t stab each other in the back, they pretty much go their separate ways after getting what they want, almost leaving on good terms. That really surprised me when I first watched this. One can speculate what Harry was thinking after Electro’s defeat but it doesn’t change how the interaction was in the film.
By the time electro was defeated, Harry already went insane. He had barely any attachment left to anything.
But before he turned into green goblin, harry would have felt a bit bad about electro’s death most likely.
When he was saying he needed max and knew what it’s like to be thrown away, he wasn’t trying to manipulate max, he was saying the truth.

I really like that part when Electro/Max is surprised when Harry desperately wants his help. Max is a character that seemingly is just some ordinary citizen who works as an electrician at Oscorp. But... He doesn't stand out. Nobody wants to interact with Max. Nobody went to his birthday, nobody wanted his help, many people did not support him. And that realization that Electro/Max had, when he realized that somebody finally wanted his help. That somebody needed him, is like such a great detail. I just love that little part in this scene.

@@Deathmare235 the reason was: he was dying due to his father spreading his goblin disease to harry, and so he asked peter to get spiderman to visit him so he can have some of Spider-Man's blood to stop the disease. (He didnt know peter was spiderman at the time) and so spiderman did visit. Harry, who was desperate to combat the illness after normal medication didnt work, begged spiderman to give him some blood cause of spidermans healing cells. spidey then told harry that it might not give the results he wanted and it could do more damage than it could do good. Harry interpreted it as spidey saying that he didnt care about him and was gonna let him rot and die. Thats why he was mad
So basically he got mad all because Spidey told him “No”

I like how when Harry is trying to get him to do what he wants, he has this sociopathic tone, wanting to manipulate him for his own needs. And it’s not until he’s about to be caught that he drops the tone and starts begging.
He genuinely needs him as well they made a character a combination of a sociopath and sympathetic for this movie

You can kind of see Harry doesn’t actually care about max. At first, he plans to free him only to use him to break into oscorp to save Harry’s own life. Then, when he gets caught, his “I need you” sounds very fake as you can see he says that just to make max fight off the guards

The most impressive thing about electro theme is how it change from an orchestral to literally dubstep. It so sick and smooth af. The score flow also change drastically to show us how max turning into electro.

Ill always feel bad for Electro. No matter what he didnt want to be a bad guy. He was just pushed around, even at his lowest when spiderman was trying to talk to him.
Spider-Man actually wanted to help him at first, but the cops were afraid that a blue guy was going to be a threat.

this are true antagonist. they have motivation, background, emotion, have lost everything, and are the real victims, making defeating them almost a crime or sin. as they just needed help, and the protagonists and world just treat them like villains. and the worse part is that this is all grounded in reality; people across the world are like this and need help but are pushed away. no thing is truly or born good or evil; it's what molds us and what we do that defines who and what we are. I d believe harry and max could have been partners to spider man, but world around them betrayed them, and spider man "saving the day" only cemented them going down the darker path. yet still they both view spidey as the villain. we're all the hero of our own story. only the non MCU films could do this. b/c the mcu is Disney owned. they don't care about the writing or telling a good rich and complex story for the villain, they just want mindless entrainment, money and the audience. why age of ultron and civil war disappointed me.

I couldn't agree with you more. For all the faults and executive meddling this series suffered, it still felt ambitious and played out well enough to be an entertaining if shortlived experience. Darker and more grounded movies like these need to exist.
That scientist had the absolute worst way to go. Being forcefully put in a chair that continually shocks you while being submerged in water and drowning while also getting even higher voltage because of the water. Yikes

Electro was the victim all along, another man left by the society and blamed for becoming the monster they created. All he needed was someone to enjoy his presence, however nobody did, nobody cared, they only did when he became the beast they feared. And, through fear, he spread his anger like a plague…a deadly, terrifying one.
