I remember this song. It was late summer. Hot dry days. Huge oak trees all around a big old house , hanging out with my girlfriend. I was 18, free, and in love.
I went 2 high-school with Patricia Santos..we were in art class when she told me she was going 2 cut a record..sf in the day was amazing..hello 2 all the presentation high girls..
I saw It's A Beautiful Day at the Warehouse in New Orleans in the early 70s. I'd seen many groups live but that was one of the most memorable concerts. I was 18 then and I'm 71 now. I still remember it as if it was yesterday. Patty came out with this gorgeous two piece emerald green sequined evening gown. The guys all had white tuxedos with tails. Unbelievable! Then they started playing and that violin and voices. I will never forget it. Fast forward to 2005 after Katrina destroyed my city. We were sitting around with our neighbors, talking about the old days. One of my friends started talking about this amazing concert at the Warehouse where everyone was dressed in white tails and gorgeous evening gown. I said I was there too! So memorable of a concert that about forty years later we were still talking about it. My albums are gone but I now have them on CDs and it all brings me back to that hot summer night in the Warehouse in New Orleans to a concert that I will never forget. I can still hear Patty say "how do you like my boys?" Wonderful carefree days.
I saw them at least five or six times in Maryland in the early '70's. Great times for me, great band. Now that I'm pushing '70 I only know that this time and this music will never be duplicated.
It was one of the best concerts that I went to at the University of Miami in the spring of 1970. The mikes were turned off because of curfew and the band continued to jam with us. Our spirit provided the electricity.
For me, this band captured the Spirit of that time. I had just been discharged from the Army and was selling The Quicksilver Times on the street corner of Wisconsin & M in Washington D.C.. Then on to Woodstock with my friends in my Volkswagen Bus. Eight track stereo playing Eric Clapton all the way up to White Lake ....
Alton Grimes I was a junior in high school 1968 every beautiful day that came along I would skip school, it would seem like such a waste of precious life, head to the country with Its a beautiful day playing sometimes trip on mescaline, mostly just appreciate the beautiful life I found myself in
WOW! Have loved them since the late 60's and am STILL horrified that 50-100 bands with less talent made it and IABD got the short end of the stick. GAH! David, and everyone else, thank you. You made an immense contribution to the good, throughout the world, including mine (Don Reed 10-21-22).
Saturday at the 69 Seattle Pop Festival featured The Doors,Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After and Chicago. With all that, the standouts were this lady and Tina Turner
Such heartbreaking lyrics! The cry of a generation: "Love, love, where did you go?" Still longing for love knowing that one day this broken world will be repaired.
On Nov. 10, 1972 It's a Beautiful Day opened for Poco at Kiel Auditorium . I remember it well, they had a giant white white costume bird, and I remember just mesmerized by the White Bird song being played live E exactly like the 8 track tape I had. Memorable. Does anyone remember that . the violin so pronounced throughout Kiel.Yes.
pattie has voice of an angel.gorgeous to boot, not a bad thing.shes 20yrs old here. Her voice is so underrated when compared to the other female singers of the period... luv them and all 60s Bay area groups.....
Amen, she was an angel. Got to see them twice in 1970 and one time was at Byron either 2 or 3 days before this. Was right up at the stage. Etched in my brain for sure.
This song is just as beautiful as when l first heard it . I was in high school and so much wonderful, creative music at that time. Glad l was able to experience this.
Hot Summer Day Has Some EPIC Lyrics - "They Told Me That The Sun Turned Green, I Said I Didn't Know... They Told Me That The Moon Turned Blue, I Said It Didn't Show... and When they Told Me I looked Like a Fool, I Even Said I'd Let That Go... But When They Told Me That Our Love Was Dead... I Had To Turn and GO! Oh Love, Love, Love --- Where did you go?"
These songs and this Beautiful woman's voice brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear that Angels voice. Wish I never moved from San Mateo in 1974 after 2 years of college. I was a jock then, I had never heard them sing. It's even harder for me to believe I didn't.. To many hours in the Pool. She is right at the top and will remain there, as will the Group
An Australian, I bought tgat album with the woman on the cover after hearing "White Bird." Failed to follow up on the band, but 50 years on, glad to find this here. Thanks for the music.
I saw them right around this time at the atlanta rock festival july 4th 1970 for the next week and weekend.over 1 million people attended that bash.We turned on the south .lol to y'all
Those long long days when we were young and changing a world which needed to be changed and we knew it was coming and it surely did. Bless you It’s A Beautiful Day for running those carousels our my minds. Blissed out totally blissed out..
Loved this band and still love this band. In '76 promoted IABD for a concert at Reed College. Summer's Day never fails to take me away. Wished for more output; part of the mystic may have been they were in their own zone and we have what LaFlamme gave us.
..damed !! ... I missed so much good music !! ... all these guys, unknown now, that were not on top lists, probably because some did not want and others were not standing at the exact moment in front of talent seekers, ... anyway .... they left some "bases" from where a lot of music was developed later ...... Reminds me of seeing them play at The Warehouse in NOLA. Then Billy Gregory took over lead guitar with them and he weren't no slouch. Thanks for bringing that memory back.
Mark McMahan My uncles went to that concert. My dad said he could hear Zeppelin from his bedroom window. They also use to have the poster of all the bands.
I am amazed that there is little to no audio and video of that event.....I was 16 at the time and it's music that lit that fire in my soul......went on to follow the Dead and JGB around the NW...just turned 66.....and now there are lots of bands doing the Dead .....check out the Toyes......got to do it when I was young enough to enjoy the ride.....

❤Will always be my favorite beach song (Album version) and the one true love that I lost.....''Leaving the other half, To tumble all alone Love, love, where did you go''? Missed them at Atlanta Pop Festival, but I did get to see my idol, Hendrix. 3 months later he was gone. God I miss the 70's & sweet youth.

Very faithful version, the studio version was pretty unbeatable, but this one has some toughness and grit the studio one does not have. Sounded like David's voice was giving out on him at the end there...Linda's organ playing much more dynamic live too. Great stuff! ❤️

Incredible harmony, even after fifty years.
July 7th 1970, my 20th birthday. Oh what a day to be young without a care in the world.

One of the best songs ever made. Great video showing Patty Santos. This band is so talented.
Saw them live in Sacramento around this time. I forgot how hot she was.
Yes music was so real back then 1970.. yes peace out.
I saw them at least five or six times in Maryland in the early '70's. Great times for me, great band. Now that I'm pushing '70 I only know that this time and this music will never be duplicated.
That fiddle right off the bat is a beauty.
It was one of the best concerts that I went to at the University of Miami in the spring of 1970. The mikes were turned off because of curfew and the band continued to jam with us. Our spirit provided the electricity.
Wonderful Pattie Santos. I caught this band at the Fillmore West in SF in 1969. RIP Pattie Santos. One of the best singers ever.
For me, this band captured the Spirit of that time. I had just been discharged from the Army and was selling The Quicksilver Times on the street corner of Wisconsin & M in Washington D.C.. Pattie Santos died in 1989 of an auto accident. Only 40 years old and was still a stunning beauty.
It's a Beautiful Day at the Seattle Pop Festival, Aug. 1969. One of the bands that seeing live back then makes it worth being old.
Was there for a few hours on Sunday. Had to go back to PDX to work the next day. Missed Zepp and The Doors and IBD.
I have a poster and usher pin of that event. I was also there, I was 14 deanonkathsphone

These are some of the best liks and fiddle from the very early 70's. A musical revolution.
