    Much respect to anyone who has been able to beat this addiction! I suffer from addiction but nothing that involves food. Everything I'm addicted to, I can avoid seeing/being around the majority of the time. I can't imagine how hard it is to overcome an addiction to something you literally need to survive.

      Had it 18 years and it's just absolutely impossible to beat, consistent relapse

      It never goes away. But you learn how not to do it and get thru each day like an addict. It's an addiction. Embarrassing and horrible.

      I completely beat anorexia 36 years ago. I had to be willing to gain weight and slightly overshoot my natural body weight to recover. I got into female bodybuilding in around 1993. By doing so, I had to eat a LOT of calories to avoid weight LOSS. My body composition completely changed. I'm small, but very heavy for my size. Bodybuilding saved my life.

    Did she say 50,000 calories in a 2 hour period? I bet the winner of the Nathan's hot dog eating contest couldn't even do that.

    • @porschetigersince2006
      @porschetigersince2006 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That’s around 21 entire large pizza’s, I believe the 50,000 measurement was just a cap/ceiling on the amount of calories consumed among most sufferers.

      That’s what I thought... I binge on maybe 4,000-5,000.. it’s not possible to have 50k in a 2 hour period though imo. Binging is hell. I still binge and purge unfortunately..I wish I never discovered purging accidentally.

    • @rosa7264
      @rosa7264 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In extreme times I was able to binge on 10.000 calories in 30 minutes, maybe cause I put a large amounts of sauces like mayo or oil on my binge foods when I was very underweight. But then I definitely had to purge. (TW) It's nearly possible if u purge in between.

      That's so dangerous, I heard once of a girl with bulimia, her stomach ruptured and she blef to death in the floor of her toilet not beeing able to get help. It must have been a horrifying death (the panic she must have felt her last moments), so think about this to not eat more than your stomach can handle unless you want to experience something like this.

    The way these old videos talk about eating disorders is wild. First, it’s treated as so much worse than any other issue because it affects young, attractive, middle class, ‘normal’ teen girls. The kind who should be worried about college, a career, but above all else, landing a husband and having children ASAP. They always act like trauma just can’t be a factor or it can’t affect anyone who isn’t the homecoming queen. Their stories aren’t as sympathetic because they aren’t romanticized like the girl next door. The worst part is ‘she may not be pretty anymore if she does this.’ Like that’s the biggest tragedy.
    Nobody who finds this experience appealing had an ideal life before it started. It wasn’t just pressure at school. Maybe it was extreme bullying or toxic people making unfair demands, or maybe their parents were dysfunctional or abusive towards each other or their kids. Maybe a grown man harmed them, or they went through some other trauma or struggle outside the home where an adult failed them. At least this one touched on the emotional stuff but gave the lightest, most generic stressors as examples. It’s a disorder rooted in low self esteem and that doesn’t come from ‘my friends have a boyfriend and I don’t’ or ‘I have so much homework, but I also have so many sports, hobbies, and social obligations. What ever shall I do? It’s hard being pretty and popular!’ These can be symptoms but that self esteem issue came from something much darker.
    But even back then it extended way past the once beautiful and all American girls they would feature on talk shows. We just didn’t care if we couldn’t picture the sufferers at the country club smiling by the pool.

    I have OFSED/EDNOS and the binge aspect is worse than the restricting. Worse for me is that I'm emetophobic so can't be sick. Those of you that binge - does anyone else only do it with certain foods? I love chocolate and sweet things but I have certain types that I eat in moderation, that I enjoy, that I consider a treat. Then other types that may have well have never been packaged they're gone so fast.

      True but look at the beginning. 1986! It's already almost surprising to me it was talked about that openly and with such termes as binge purge that are still used today for diagnosis etc..

    • @baileymoran8585
      @baileymoran8585 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The whole video made it look like it only affects the homecoming queen. Not even just women. Upper middle class, popular girls who just can’t handle having so many hobbies, sports, and tons and tons of friends, or they are ‘struggling’ with the ‘horrors’ of not getting a prom date before all their friends. It usually comes from trauma. It’s more likely to affect upper middle class and wealthy white people than other behavioral addictions, but these disorders are born in trauma and being mentally unwell so they have pretty high rates outside the gated communities and country clubs as well. They just didn’t pull at the heartstrings like all the former girl next door types who made it onto talk shows. It’s amazing how little was known about it not even that long before I was born. All of these old videos think it’s a diet that goes too far and is born of mild pressures everyone experiences, but ‘these pretty little cheerleaders were just to soft and fragile to deal with the horrors of their all American male crush asking out another girl on the squad who happened to be maybe 5 lbs thinner.’ This is why you aren’t taken seriously if you have these issues and you are not as seemingly perfect as all the before pics of the sufferers people would see on tv.

      More like -15 in todays economy
      Also, along with food being extremely expensive here… it’s also due to the fact everything on and around campus is walkable (grocery stores, coffee shops, medical centers, gyms, clothing stores, you name it) so no one really cares to drive much around here. Btw, yes I’m American, North Carolina to be exact, but everyone at my university I go to tends to stay the same weight or loose a ton)
