    When M was a team and not just a logo on your suv.

      BMW Motorsport is still doing what they always did, but BMW as a company has to make profit and putting an absolutely pointless M on the car here and there does job amazingly well. People just want to buy into the M even if the car isn't any different from the standard model.

    Pretty amazing considering BMW is still owned by the one family, not some public corporation. Everything this company does is internally funded.

    The only s2000 regulation touring car that was competitive without cheating or dispensation. did 4 seasons on chassis 717, great car, miss it, we used to call it Lil and its sister 718 Bil.

      That's a weird and dishonest thing to say considering BMW basically forced the super2000 set of rules on everyone else in 2002 threatening the fia not to take part in the ETCC if they didn't apply technical rules that were close to former superproduction rules because they has already a winning car there when all 3 other manufacturers (Alfa, Volvo, Nissan) involved had spend 2001 in meetings (in which BMW took part, disguising its game to the last minute) to agree on a different set of rules closer to supertouring ! ... the regulation from the start favored the 320, they got trashed anyway by the great Alfa Romeo 156 in the first half of 2002 ... so much so that more help was needed form the FIA and they obtained an extra 500 rpm and to reduce minimum weight (which notably led to the withdrawal of Volvo in 2003 who couldn't bear the BMW political shenanigans and the will fro the FIA to oblige) Alfa took all the silverware anyway. In 2003, Alfa had to suffer a 30kg weight penalty for using a sequential gearbox when BMW had no weight penalty using a sequential gearbox ... Tarquini still beat the bavarians to the driver's title, and was not done yet fighting priaulx to the last race in 2004 in an impossible to develop any further and aging 156. So dispensation there were some ... for the guys from munchen ! and when you wrote the rules you should be ashamed to be thoroughly beaten by better than you ... and certainly not dare use the word "cheating" ...

    The road version of the 320si (made 2600 of it, thanks God) has the worst engine ever 45b20a!!!! It is a shame of BMW, I have one si in my garage, the engine belew at 109k km-s! I have not found a single owner who would recommend the 320si! Looks great, might be good as a race car, but do not buy the limited one for the road!

      Tamas Biro what problem have the motor?

    • @tamasbiro1766
      @tamasbiro1766 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general it is a faulty construction (BMW will never admit it), the pistons, the piston rings are extremly weak, but the main issue is the engine block. The block will broke between the pistons, this is very usual. Also you have to rev this engine to get out the power of it, this means high consumption in fuel (min. 12l/100km as per my car) and oil consumption depending on the state of your engine.
      One thing is for sure, if you have done around 100 000 km, with this engine, sell it as fast as you can, do not buy this model unless the engine is re-built. Good luck!

    BMW Team AC Schnitzer were by far the world's best touring car squad and they've built a car that would crush Alfa Romeo for two seasons with Andy Priaulx at the helm.

      4, it’s the regulation.

    • @Bleifuss88
      @Bleifuss88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Deft78440 WTCC Regulations also allowed for inline 6s, in fact the E46 320i WTCC car used until 2005 was a six cylinder. But the engine was at a disadvantage (mainly due to the rev limit) compared to the four bangers, so instead BMW opted for a 4 cylinder engine for the E90 from 2006 onwards.
