Abyssal Lagi lokks so badass, the dark scales broken up by the blue glow beneath them and its shellshockers, just immaculate. Though it is sad that we might not see him again in the forseeable future because water combat was mostly hated
The Lord of the Seas is here. Here's hope that we'll see him in Wilds. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the stuff covered here like the raptors, bears and the brutes like Deviljho and Barroth.
Having never played Tri, learning about the Lagiacrus was an eye-opening discovery...and it made me understand why so many fans hold it in high regard (and hope for his return) That said, that poem in the Abyssal section....makes him sound like sea devil (though not hard to see why once you see him). I'm looking forward to the next installment when you release the wyvern hounds!
I am biased since Tri was my first MH but i still thing that Tri did it best in terms of lore and going with the "coexistence with nature"-Theme. Lagaicrus was such a awesome monster and Ceadeus was probably the best lore reason for a final boss in MH. Just an old Emperor of the Sea in pain about his missgrown body and u help releasing him from that pain without killing him. Its beautiful.
I have a better theory on why Abyssal Lagiacrus is a rare species: It's in the name, "Abyssal". I'm willing to believe that there is a subspecies of Lagiacrus that is fully aquatic, but they usually live in ocean depths so deep, observing and documenting them is near impossible.
I wish they bring back my favorite monster in the series. I still remember the Double Lagiacrus battle in the underwater arena on tri, in order to get the Rising Soul long sword.
On the topic of quartz in Ivory Lagi's shell, I'm pretty sure quartz is a piezoelectric material, meaning it produces a voltage in response to mechanical stress and vice versa. So maybe that has something to do with Ivory being able to use its lightning abilities on land.
I have a correction to make: Lagiacrus's inability to use lightning on land is not described as an inability; in Hunter's Encyclopedia 3 it's described as being an issue simply because Lagiacrus spends time on land when it's already tired and generating charges is tiring, so it tends to not have any spare capacity during the time it spends on land, that's all. Furthermore, in the Ivory Lagiacrus ecology book, it notes that it is capable of using lightning on land freely without worrying about gassing out because its subcutaneous tissue has evolved to not dehydrate as easily, and so implicitly hydration of the electrical cells is important and it relies on the surrounding water. Nothing says it can't generate shocks on land, and in fact, it actually *can* do this in Tri/3U under rare circumstances; most notably when it returns to its den to sleep at low health. GU Lagiacrus doesn't actually break anything established; it just demonstrates a different kind of Lagiacrus that is highly active on land but hasn't undergone the same adaptation as the supposedly recent evolution of the Ivory Lagiacrus-which itself indicates that there must have been Lagiacrus individuals transitioning back to land in order for the evolution to develop beneficial adaptations to such in the first place. There's actually a bit of a neat potential easter egg with GU Lagiacrus too, in that its horns will unmistakably spark with electricity when it's charged (even if they don't glow). The lore for 3rd gen lagiacrus and Ivory Lagiacrus both agree that the horns are degraded or undeveloped compared to the shell shockers and so don't generate discharges, but it notes "if it seeks to produce greater discharges in the course of future evolution, it may be that it will use these horns to emit electricity." This was clearly hinting at Abyssal, whose horns charge up, but perhaps it also applies to the offshoot of GU Lagiacrus, who seems to be generally a lot flashier with its use of lightning? Even if not, it wouldn't be hard to imagine individuals that have undergone the internal tissue changes to limit dehydration, but simply haven't incorporated the quartz into their shell that Ivory individuals have. Lastly I wanted to note that this is important, because the explanation you came to doesn't make sense scientifically. It's true that water doesn't conduct electricity, but what Lagiacrus generates is lightning; ionized plasma channels that are formed from the heat of resistance of the medium and then conduct the electricity-what matters here is the breakdown voltage, not the resistance, and water's breakdown voltage is HIGH. The conductivity of water is actively a detriment to the formation of lightning (especially salt water, as its really the salt and other ions that are conductive), because high conductivity = low resistance = low heat = no plasma. If lightning strikes the sea, there is no lightning under the surface of the water. In this sense what Lagiacrus does is really ridiculous, and what the lore points out; that Lagiacrus generates so much that it "boils the sea" (visually indicated by the bubbles that form when it sparks underwater) is far more frightening and extreme than it may seem if you don't know this. Namielle is similarly even more terrifying. (It could be that water in MH is weird, or that there's some other secondary condition that is allowing this (like another mucous medium that is resistive released by Lagiacrus? Or perhaps simply heat from the body vaporizing water in contact and creating an air barrier than then arcs and sparks and further vaporizes the water around it?). Generating lightning discharges on land is *not* harder than doing so underwater, it's actually many, *many* times easier.
I wonder what monster is next probably zinogre Also I like you said in needs to breathe air ONLY every 12 hours And what a twist, what everyone who thought was a rare species is actually a variant
Favorite leviathan let's freakin' go! Lagiacrus is basically the Monster Hunter World's version of a crocodile or alligator, my favorite modern animals. The fact that Abyssal's color scheme reminds of Godzilla is a huge plus in my book.
Damn... These videos just make me want an Animal Survival game based in the Monster Hunter setting, like The Isle or Beasts of Bermuda. I'd 1000% love to play as Lagiacrus. I got my start in the 3rd Gen, so its got a special place in my heart alongside the swimming mechanics. Some monsters would be absolutely busted, of course, but... Some balancing for the sake of gameplay is always an option.
Maybe to go with this, you could finish your monster phylogeny series. Though maybe for the length, you'd have to put the Leviathans with something like the neopterans. Since there's only 5, though 2 are possibly on the way, species of note. And theres a few neopterans that are pretty notable.
I like how the leviathan body-plan is based on real marine reptiles, specifically basal sauropterygians like Nothosaurus. Makes you realize these prehistoric reptiles are the closest you could get to a Lagiacrus.
17:55 I mean, it stands to reason; if it can use its shell shockers in fresh water, it can probably use it on land, right? It's not the water itself that conducts electricity so well, it's all the minerals and other stuff that does it?
Wanna know something funny? When I first saw this monster immediately thought that if he was much bigger, I would see him as a kaiju from Pacific Rim that a jaeger would fight
A part of me wonders if the Lagiacrus who can use their shell shockers on land, are in an intermarry stage between the usual Lagiacrus and Ivory lagiacrus.
When I first started playing monster hunter, I started with Tri on the Wii. When I first saw the Lagiacrus, I fled, saved and quit for a couple days. 😂 I was running around with low rank offline gear, no access to anything high rank because the servers were down for a hwhile at that point. I nope.exe'd out. 😂❤
Can you please make ecology videos like these on god eater's aragami? I know they aren't supposed to be part of the natural order and are much more fantastical than anything from monhun, but they would be a pretty interesting topic to discuss, in my opinion.
I was ready to ask if the Ivory Lagiacrus wasn't just a regular Lagiacrus that had been sunbathing uninterrupted for hours. I don't remember where I heard/read that, but I guess that's wrong, lol.
Negatively charged atoms? Is it supposed to be negatiely charged ions? I could be wrong here but I've never heard charged atoms used in this context before
I just realized this... And I'm upset it took me this long. But if land mobsters can get as large as Zora, then in the open ocean, how large can Leviathans get....
Lovely, one of my favorites Gotta ask though - I know you 'make up' the scientific names of monsters, but why do you always list 'subspecies' as separate species? In this case you refer to base lagi as Lagiacrus mogialis and Ivory as Lagiacrus eburnalis. In this case Lagiacrus is their genus, not species name (following real taxonomic rules). Curious why you've maintained this notation for all subspecies in these ecology videos?
Lagiacrus is one of my first monster that solidified my passion for monster hunter. I've been waiting for years for his return. Pls Capcom. Bring back my boii.
For future ecology episodes, if you ever mention the whole "fake Subspecies" thing again, maybe you can put an additional spin on it. Something about legal jargon that prevents re-classification or something else like that, in reference to the fact that Capcom quite literally can't re-classify old Subspecies IRL due to their copyright/trademarks (same reason "Super Saiyan Blue" remains "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" in merchandise labelling, for example) and the fact that the original Japanese terminology doesn't allow them to do more than one Subspecies or Rare Species per Monster without giving them an alternate form entirely.

*YES THE LORD OF THE SEA ECOLOGY LETS GOOOO!!!!!!!*
I hope Lagiacrus is in Monster Hunter Wilds someday.
AMAZING WORK AS ALWAYS ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Our lord is finally here with Generation 3
Yesssssss!!!!!!
Season 3, babyyyy!
There's a mod that adds Nothosaurus into ARK, which can use electrical attacks. There's no way that modded creature wasn't based on Lagiacrus.
17:55 I mean, it stands to reason; if it can use its shell shockers in fresh water, it can probably use it on land, right? It's not the water itself that conducts electricity so well, it's all the minerals and other stuff that does it?
What did the alien cat say when it landed on Earth?
"Take me to your litter"
Babe wake up the goat just posted 🗣️‼️
Wanna know something funny? When I first saw this monster immediately thought that if he was much bigger, I would see him as a kaiju from Pacific Rim that a jaeger would fight
...i see lagi.
i click.
he *IS* going to be in Wilds.
Babe, wake up.
Oceaniz is talking about Lagiacrus.
imagine if they do a newer speciers of this guy in Wilds. A Fully on land lightning murder machine
Let's DIVE IN
in lagiacrus return we trust
He WILL be in Monster Hunter Wilds the plenty stage of the Scarlet Forest is perfect for him
My favourite monster
Thanks you bro
Can you please make ecology videos like these on god eater's aragami? I know they aren't supposed to be part of the natural order and are much more fantastical than anything from monhun, but they would be a pretty interesting topic to discuss, in my opinion.
My favorite monster!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I miss fighting this monster with terrible Wii motion controls
I like how he use the Lagiacrus mod even tho lagi was never appear in sunbreak lol
rathalos tigrex and lagiacrus my big 3

Plss do a video like this but on jagra/great jagras
Lesss go, Lagiacrus ecology
Todays a good day.
With uth duna now represent the real world mosasaur streamline marine body plan, i daresay lagiacrus would get predated upon
Do you have any plans to put out season 2 in episode form?
I was ready to ask if the Ivory Lagiacrus wasn't just a regular Lagiacrus that had been sunbathing uninterrupted for hours. I don't remember where I heard/read that, but I guess that's wrong, lol.
Awesome duuude
Justo and jugando 3u (solo gremio) y ya llegue a la urgebte de lagiacrus y VAYA que es dificil con una lanza pistoka
Think there is any chance we gonna see him in wilds
Seeing the monsters from first, second, and third gen makes me so upset because I can’t fight any of these cool monsters.
That it, im replaying 3 ultimate
Not even halfway in and seen 6 ads already
Takara or Kotobukiya, please make a zoid of this.
Diablo 2 ost lets goooooo
Negatively charged atoms? Is it supposed to be negatiely charged ions? I could be wrong here but I've never heard charged atoms used in this context before
I just realized this... And I'm upset it took me this long. But if land mobsters can get as large as Zora, then in the open ocean, how large can Leviathans get....
Oceaniz, what is the name of the song you use for your little intro? is it mh, free domain, or is it custom somehow?
Its the Great Arena Theme from Monster Hunter Frontier! :D
@Oceaniz ty!
Lovely, one of my favorites
Gotta ask though - I know you 'make up' the scientific names of monsters, but why do you always list 'subspecies' as separate species? In this case you refer to base lagi as Lagiacrus mogialis and Ivory as Lagiacrus eburnalis. In this case Lagiacrus is their genus, not species name (following real taxonomic rules). Curious why you've maintained this notation for all subspecies in these ecology videos?
CAPCOM PUT LAGIACRUS IN WILDS AND MY LIFE IS YOURS
Lagiacrus is one of my first monster that solidified my passion for monster hunter. I've been waiting for years for his return. Pls Capcom. Bring back my boii.
Is there anything about the Lagiacrus lify cycle from birth to adulthood?
nice
Wilds better add him
