Finally, the long awaited underwater case has been released and I was able to get some testing in this week with it. If you own a DJI Osmo Pocket and want some crispy underwater shots, the new DJI case for the Osmo Pocket is what you need. Now although this case is necessary for getting vibrant and clear underwater shots, it does have some limitations. I've listed below some of the pros and cons before. Make sure you watch the video to see some side by side comparisons with the Osmo Action.

PROs:
• Easy to install and use out of the box after firmware update
• Has multiple mounting options with standard 2 prong connection
• Fairly affordable at $55 considering you only other option for clear underwater footage would be to purchase the Osmo Action ($379 USD) or GoPRO ($329)
• Front element is glass and not plastic
CONs:
• Can't switch resolution and shooting modes (can't change resolution) while it's in the case.
• You are stuck in one angle without the ability to hold it straight up and down.
• Osmo Pocket field of view makes it difficult too record in smaller areas.
• Very hard to view the back screen in the water.

My son will be 2 this summer, I don't think he will be swimming that good, but watching the little guys swim makes me want to get that water proof cover to get some good family pool fun time.
Field of view may be smaller however the color representation of the pocket was much better

would have been nice to see how it performs at the upper edge of the water, where half the view is open-air and the other half is submerged. I want to know if it works like a dome essentially

I've been considering getting the housing since I just purchased the Osmo Pocket last week.
As an UW Photographer who used a GoPro Hero 3/ 3+ Black every day for half a decade it seems pretty similar with the exception of the gimbal of course which seems fantastic to have for UW footage. However I would highly recommend getting the wide angle lens (remember you lose 30% of your FOV when submerged) AND a red/orange filter for deeper water (down to 10-15m) to achieve the highest color fidelity. For depths under 15-20m an UW video light would be a must (without the red filter of course).

As for field of view, are you able to use the wide angle lens with the waterproof case?
No!!...I had all sorts of problems with the "Gimbal protected tap to resume"...eventually worked out that it was the wide angle lens that I had on the pocket 2. As soon as I removed it, problem resolved. If someone has found a way to use the wide angle lens with the waterproof case, Id love to hear it..
Good video! I find it hard to get my Pocket out of the underwater case. I definitely do not want to pull it up by the gimbal head. For now, I run some dental floss down with the Pocket when I insert it into the case. Having just a little bit of "pull" helps get it out. Anyone have a more elegant solution?

What are the best settings to use underwater especially if you want both in and out of the water? Are you using nd filters as well?

Great video. But it's odd that the rubber secure ring stays at it's place in your device. By me it jumps out when opening, like it is too small. I have to close and tighten the upper part very carefully, otherwise the case isn't waterproof. Yesterday I had an accident that some water came in and the Osmo pocket was wet. Lucky it still works. Anyone else has this problems too? (sorry for my strange english, I'm dutch speaking)
You almost gottah film in high frame rate for post production slow motion as stability is out the window😭

How easy is scratching the case lens? Does it come with a cap to protect it when not in use and carried in a bag or backpack?

It's recessed a tiny but but luckily you can lay it on the side. No case included.
After using mine I always leave it open overnight to air and I store it closed in a Clean sock!! This prevents the glass getting scratches!

Is it okay for kind of high impact? Like falling into the water from surfing?
I use mine occasionally for KiteSurfing!! Have never had a problem with the many Wipeouts I have had!!
Does the case float? or is there a float attachment? I lost my go-pro recently in a lake and I'm paranoid now lol.

Because of the specific 45 degree angle that the case is set to, does the gimbal actually work in the case or is the angle completely stationary?

Hey flypath! I wanted to ask about stabilization.. i’m currently suffering the peril of third world interwebs.. does the gimbal still try to stabilize the footage in the waterproof case? ^_^
I have the Osmo Pocket but I think I rather go for the Osmo Action if I wanna shoot underwater stuff. The case seems to be a little too much fiddeling around until you're ready to go. 😂

Are there any options for a waterproof case that would be able to mount to a kayak for the pocket 2? I feel like this is a bit overkill in terms of what I would need it for. The waterproof case defeats the point of having a Osmo Pocket for me as it cannot flip 180* which I use a lot.

Same way you turn in on. Go back to menu and click it off
@@FlytPath I did that, like 3 times, wouldn't shut off. Then my pocket started randomly shutting off during 4k60 filming ..... I hooked it up to my phone and only then did it give me the option on my phone screen to take it off waterproof mode

The DJI water proof case has a fatel design flaw. There is a rubber band type material that is it comes off on the case will flood the device and it's comes off pretty easily. I wouldn't recommend this case.
I don't know of any waterproof housing that doesn't have a rubber gasket to seal against water. Which one are you using that doesn't have a gasket?
Mike Su the DJI pocket Osorio comes off easily and it’s hard to put back correctly. It’s a super bad design .
@@biggooseadventures That maybe true that some may find the gasket difficult to install. Based upon past experience with underwater camera equipment, I automatically put a very light coat of Sea and Sea Silicon grease on all underwater gaskets, that always makes install easy, at least for me.
@@mikesu8125 thank you for sharing. I decided to get a go pro 7 in addition to my pocket osmo for water stuff. Just can't decide if I should get the 7 black because they're offering great deal since 8 is coming out.
@@biggooseadventures I agree! The Osmo Pocket in the waterproof case is just a clumsy workaround for people who already own the Pocket. It works but it's not my favorite tool. If at all possible, I recommend to my friends to get the 7 Black. Much easier to use

Thank very much for the comparation , but it would had been a lot better if you had improved the resolution of your final pospo - dont know what settings you used for final output - but man it sucks ..!!! the quality of both cameras , as you have shown here is absolutely atrocious ....both cameras are full of artefacts ...noise ...and aberrations of the image ...and am sure is not the fault of neither OSMO or GOPRO ...was looking forward this review ...but sorry ..!!! the final result did not show the true quality of neither camera ...and you know it .

well true quality would be unedited footage which he did. You are referring to true quality being after edited. Thats not "TRUE" at all
