Ya gotta love the “big cut” braveness!! That’s a cool tree the money tree.

Have you cut a really large portulacaria afra and rooted into a new plant? I have a really big one (2 meters tall and about maybe 10 - 15cm in diameter for the trunk) and thinking to sacrifice it to produce several bonsai.

Hi Nigel, I did some hard pruning on my money tree a few months back.
I used that silver HVAC tape to cover the wound, it healed so well that you couldn’t tell there was a branch there.
It was about a 1” diameter

Really love the ratchet pruners, beggars belief what they'll go through! Also found they are excellent at trimming plastic mouldings too! Thanks as always for the videos, so useful to see the work I need to do to my trees :)

Can you release Lady Bugs in the green house to wage war on the bad-bugs? Or is that available in your area?

It's nice seeing a more natural pachira. Not a fan of the braided trunks you can get at stores. That trunk has some chonk to it.

Maybe mixing in just the tiniest bit of soap into Mr Mister once a week would keep the bugs away. Thanks for another great video!

First time I've disagreed with you! I wouldn't have done that big cut on the money tree. But there you go. Love the blue scissors/ Walter Pall method of deciduous summer pruning. Need to get some, but will other colours work as well?

  • @mnelson10000

Love the money tree! I can't manage to keep one alive, lol! I was thinking, with the scale problem, maybe it would be a good idea to let the greenhouse lie fallow the rest of the summer...?

Sir Nigel, if you can take the pump apart, there's the possibility of replacing the motor. It would be a shame to spend that much for it to die already.
Also, as new as it is, I figured it would be under warranty.

I just got a money tree bonsai as my first ever bonsai and I’m very excited but nervous it is just one trunk with some green branching into leaves like yours I’m assuming you envision the stems as it would age and prune harder in areas you want less growth? Would love some advice from any fellow bonsai lovers

  • @Tybold63

Your money tree is quite nice and looks healthy. Am little worried about some of the elms though, something seem to be eaten at the leaves and some discoloured spots.

Lovely tree. My money tree is going crazy this summer. I have two trunks as well but I’d be so scared to prune it back so severely!

Nigel how is your juniper from the store doing ? Not sure if I missed an update on that .

American elm tend to have multiple trunks, they are reaching in all directions!
The second elm you worked on is beautiful!!
I can see a couple branches in there that could be nice trunks!!
    Dutch elm is terrible!!
I had a big old one outside the shop I work in.
It came out in full leaf, and by July it had dropped all of its leaves and died…. The same season!!!
    So disappointed !
I know Dutch elm kills fast…
    On a more positive note!
Beautiful trees Nigel!!! You should stick some chop sticks in your hair!!!

  • @paulschaefer5241
    @paulschaefer5241 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I wonder. I have seen some information that these plants can be started from a single leaf. I do know that it is possible for a leaf to root and not necessarily give you a plant. Have you ever tried it from just a leaf?
