Hey Jimmy, I've been watching your videos for a long time and I was wondering how many years of experience do you have?
*****
I would guess he has 47 years of experience.
I have been at it for 40 + years making stuff thank you
And just last week I was like "That's a cool bell and all, but what the hell is he gonna do with that?"
Never question a Grand Master.
you never fail to amaze
As an amateur woodworker who's grandfather (a carpenter) WAS, and whose father-in-law (amateur woodworker) IS missing fingers and parts thereof, I have to mention for all the people new to the craft- Mr. Diresta here is an experienced craftsman, meaning he knows a lot about how to handle his tools. The rest of us would have taken several trips to the hospital if we did everything in this project the way he does. That said, even Diresta has cut off a finger before, so please everyone, use your head when you are using power tools. A table saw will take off your arm without slowing down one bit. Use your safety equipment, but don't rely on it. There is no substitute for a healthy fear of the destructive power of metal spinning at high RPMs. ON THE OTHER HAND- keep making and thanks for the video Jimmy!
You've seriously become one of my heroes in the past few months. So inspiring to watch
Thank you for the kind words !
Love that you don't let the safety nellies stop you from using saws the way you want to!
Interesting technique with the nail gun to get nails only part way in. I think I'd be to afraid of getting one in my finger!
Yeah..... screw safety! :-\
Matthias thank you sir ! I am on TH-cam because of you thank you! To the other comment. It's not " screw safety" Believe it or not, I am safety conscience. I have been using all the tool for 40 years. There is a comfort level.
Thank you.
Oh I'm absolutely mesmerized by your videos and I get that. But I don't think that bit of info is clear to the novice.
Nice work Jimmy
Love IT
For all the kids watching here what you just saw was a master class in Make Ninja Artsmanship. Jimmy moves fast like his supple and mischievous imagination and displays techniques that represents, "in a bind", work with what you got, and plain ole showin'off elegance. This man is a showman/teacher/master and auteur. It is yet another awe inspiring display. Of course these are not the preferred techniques, you are not watching just a woodworker but a Shaolin MAKE master, a Miles Davis of creation. Then you consider the video production skills and camera work...
For the novice or uninitiated, this is a Hendrix solo not a guitar lesson. Look high and low but nobody out there is touching this stuff on all these techniques, materials, levels and execution.
That brought a tear to my eye xo Thank you.
Well said.
I agree 100% ! there are no words to describe it!
This is perfect. Thank you.
Just listen for the squeaky spring... it's just as loud as the bell! That's a beautiful doghouse - it never ceases to amaze me how you make complicated details look just dead simple.
Well, if ever a project was built with love, it's this one, right down to the hand crafted bell. Thanks Jimmy.
I know safety nazis have a different opinion, but I love watching how you use tools. I laughed at the miter saw one and thought "only DiResta would put that on film". Love it. Love the dog house as well. It's such a common project, but you make it so unique. Great job.
April!! Thank you for the love !
Come on now we have all done it. Great video
Great time investment, well done and thanks for sharing April.
Yup, same here. I'm the exact opposite of a safety Nazi, but there were a few things where even I went "Whooaaaa....".
But it's Big Boy Rules. Do your thing. Get it done.
"safety nazis" lol
A lot of things are learned just by watching your gestures when maneuvering machinery.
thank you.
jimmy I would love to sit in your shop or class for hours just to watch you build. Iam amazed by the things you make
matt porterfield you could watch and vape
...Классный домик для собак. Просто супер! :)
... Cool house for dogs. Simply super! :)
Fuck TV. TV has never entertained me as much as this (these). This 12 min clip is dripping awesome all over the place. Sweet work Jimmy.
Hahah love this Thank you very Much !
I agree. The Learning Channel and A&E (Arts and Entertainment) have become the exact opposite of that.
Watching jimmydiresta makes my day. Long may they continue.
It's odd how I can sit here for hours just watching your videos.
Alexander Jones Nothing odd about it. We're all addicted to Diresta 😉
The trick Diresta did with the saws were just amazing, blew my mind.
You rock Jimmy! Love the use of the bell from your last video. I just love your videos. Thank you for uploading useful, helpful and inspirational videos that make me get out in my little work shop and make stuff. You're awesome!
Thank you for the kind words! keep on making!
Wow, what a nice build. I love the Yorkies. They're the most loyal animal on the planet.
That is one blind doggie right there. Cataracts for days!
Thanks for sharing! The little round window was genius.
A colleague sent me this video this morning, since I said I wanted to build a house for my two dogs. Well, you are an artist! Chances I'll make a dog house like this are rather slim (I'm a girl with no tools lol), but I sure enjoyed this video, plus I must have spent around 2 hours watching your other videos too- you're addictive! Greetings from Greece
Thank you for the love and respect !! My GF made a house for the cat w a paper shipping box and a razor All the animals love !!
I have a workshop, this guy has a bloody fabrication boutique
+gromann i'm certain he does woodworking as a full time job.. gotta make that investment ;) (to be honest, you're still lucky to have a workshop, i've always wanted one but never had the space since i live in a condo :/)
You're awesome !
I'm a carpenter from Sweden and you stand for the best entertainment youtube ! Thank you Jimmy
/Rickard from Sweden
Thank you happy to hear this!
Genius!. You my friend... get a like
Thank you for not using rare and difficult techniques and tools so we can do them and easily. U are a Teacher for us . Simplicity, explanatory and enjoyable videos .
ha! yes i keep it simple xo tx u!
just got my ice cream, made it full screen, adjusted to 1080p and enjoyed until the end. great videos, and that bell seems familiar ;)
Thank you !
At 12:01, that's the best endorsement you can get. Those are some happy looking dogs. Great build, Jimmy. It came out awesome!
God I love it.. another work of art!!!! I especially like the way he made use of the bell that he created in a previous video. It also seem like the dogs were little taken by it!! DING!!! hehehe :-)
Best dog house I've ever seen. Lucky dogs!
Excellent! Now for a question about the roof. Why did you place the roofing material vertical and not horizontal like you did on the sides, front, and back? For those who do not understand the question: If the dog house is ever outside rainwater will get to the plywood between the edges of the roofing material. Laying the strips horizontally starting at the bottom and overlapping each one toward the top will allow rainwater to run off and not get to the plywood. Perhaps I am answering my own question here and the doghouse will never go outside. For an artisan like Jimmy Diresta who prides himself on authenticity (search youtube make:diresta brownstone birdhouse) it's puzzling to the casual observer.
it was simply for texture contrast. the house will be inside my nyc apartment. my little guys are too small to live out side unsupervised. Thank you !
Lucky dogs. Thats real nice, thanks for sharing.
❤️❤️❤️ i love this, its so cute
Ya..the ending I gotta say was very cute. Shhhh, ...dont tell anyone I used that word cause im a grown man and we are forbidden to use it. 😉
Loved the way you created the siding and of course the floor activated bell is just brilliant! Thanks for sharing.
I half expected this doghouse to have air conditioning and satellite tv...
lol
we install air conditioning units and hound heaters in a lot of our houses
Thats the life right there
+wormo polis yep! people love their dogs!
No fridge? Any dog needs a fridge.
Now that is a great project. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, never quite seen anyone lift their workpiece into a mitre saw before, nor holding the guard of a nailgun to be able to shoot nails. Innovative, and scary, stuff right there!
Cool dog house, although the parallels with bells in regards to dogs are uncanny! What would you make them do...except salivate?
That's how I build all my scaffolding when framing houses. If you set the heads of the nails, they are a bitch to get back apart later. It also works great for hanging the gun on the wall when you are three stories in the air on a 12 inch walk board hanging plywood. (Although my framing gun has a piece on top you can pull back instead of getting your finger in front of the business end) ;)
Switch & Lever Thank you for watching! and commenting,... don't do any of things i do if you want to remain as precise as you are! ( you inspire me to be more precise but it is not easy for me.. LOL ! true!)
jimmydiresta Meh, people are too safety obsessed anyways. If you're comfortable, and aware of what you're doing I see nothing wrong with pushing the boundaries a bit. I always try to use the bandsaw as a precision tool, which ends up with my fingers dangerously close to the blade, though never even had as much as a nick.
I actually aspire to be less precise. I think the main difference here is that you're able to knock out a project like this in much less time than me, and I have huge admiration for that!
Cheers!
/Daniel
Hahaha I think a dog house it meant to be inviting... The bell scared the crap out of the dog. Awesome work though Jimmy. True craftsmanship right there.
I thought you'd write your name on one of the dogs.
Very clever. Funny how timid they were going in. I love the idea. Now I know what to do with barn siding I have. Thanks for sharing.
whats wrong with your cats
they're dogs. :P
+ARMORED BATTLE CHICKENS shakes head in agreement.
Fuck u all they are turtles
Bunch of poor Blind Bastards, Clearly the big one is and Ostrich and the smaller one is an Emu.
***** Holy Shit, the alligators evolved to dress like Hamsters, this must all be part of there world domination plan.
Jimmy, you can build anything. Love watching your video. You are the Man!
This guy is a god damn pro!
So much work has been put into this dog house, just the bell alone is a master piece.
LOL!!! you can never go wrong with puppies in the video! Very fun! Love the circular window! Very cool!
Chris
Hi Jimmy, I'm with OSHA I would like to talk with you about some of the table saw practices I witnessed in your video. Now I know what you're thinking "The way I operate MY tablesaw at MY house is none of OSHA's business". However that's not the case in the wonderful state of New York. Also I noticed an XL soda beverage in the video. That's a class A misdemeanor in New York now Jimmy. Please get back to me at the email I've sent you.
Fantastic, they should receive a great education in that facility.
Thanks for the video.
When someone people like watching do things people will copy them and sometimes people with less experience learn the wrong things . The just get it done mindset has no place on a job sight or in a workshop when we sacrifice safety . Ounce you loose and eye or a finger you might not be able to get them back . If you have sponsors you represent them and should do so accordingly and as someone people will learn from you owe it to them and yourself to set a good example . Its not always the easy to do things the right way but tis worth the extra efforts we make .
Please take the time and make a video.
People are responsive for them selves. This 8 minute window into my shop is by no means a lesson in what to do right or wrong. It works for me. I make vids to inspire and entertain. ThankYou for watching.
Big smiles .. aw huh the hand made bell does have a use … bravo!!!
Where's the Diresta sign?
You are so creative. Thanks for sharing! I love watching.
Is one of your dogs blind?
I think so. My dog is like that too
No blind dogs, one of them is deaf, though.
+Delta Those are Cataracts, People get them too when they become old. It's like having a foggy windshield but for your eyeballs. So they cannot see very well at the least, and at the most they are completely blinded.
No more Skooma for you M'aiq
It's probably just old
Bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay. The sounds of a dog brings me to another day. Now I got that stuck in my head. Thanks Jimmy. You da man.
**There are 2 things you should tell kids NOT to try this at home:
Do not lift boards on the miter saw like this and definitely DO NOT use your nail gun like this! lol.
Only for the pros.
what do you mean? Abusing the safety mechanism to shoot nails without it being on something isn't something we should do?
DiResta makes his own rules. DiResta rules may not be appropriate for others. Make your own rules, and build at your own risk!
If you only saw 2 things to tell the kids not to try at home you must have just closed your eyes after the second one.
What cracked me up about the miter saw part was there was a table saw in the next scene .... hahahaha
Hahah. Some wood is tool long for my cross cut sled I have to use the chop.
You have nailed it so hard...I'm astonished..
I salute this guy. He is a legend.
Your videos are the only ones on TH-cam where I press like after less than 10 seconds. I wish I had all your toys. And your talent...
Incredibly impressed!
Jimmy if i haven't said this before I'll say it now, you're very skilled and creative , love the detail on the housr and thr bell blew it over the top with the pressure plate to shake the bell when the dogs get in or out, truly amazing
I was inspired by your making a notebook, and I repeated it using my own design. It was a pretty cool lesson from you, and I have a new skill now. Thank you.
You remember me, of an old man, whom I knew in Romania. He make anything from wood, from spoon to statue, without any power tool or air, chisels and files only. Grate job you make here !
Jimmy you're a true master. I have been a woodworker/ carpenter for over 30 years and I truly enjoy your videos. I discovered them about two weeks ago and have been watching them alcoholically. I really enjoy the artistry involved. I've been thinking about adding a little more metalwork to my projects and after watching your videos I think I'm going to invest in a welder and explore metalworking as well. You are truly an artist I enjoy your work thank you.
James ! Thankyou for the kind words ! For my welding teachers look up weldingtipsandtricks and also chuckE2009. Thank you !
Awesome Jimmy, Thanks for Sharing
Awesome work and awesome dog house. One of a kind.
Very cool. Bell tower is a great touch.
i never gonna do what you do for living but you are keeping dream alive jimmy. who knows someday i ll build my workshop as hobbyist!! thank you!!
Your videos really make me want to get back into woodworking.
Amazing job Jimmy, love the porthole window and the way you made it. Great job all round and a great place for the bell you made.

Jimmy is the best👍✌
SUPERB image of the two pups at the end of the video. A truly wonderful vid of a truly wonderful project :-)
another 12 minutes of pure pleasure!!!
So that's where that bell went! Very clever.
What a great dog house! They're so lucky!
that was awesome. Love the mechanism and the use of your bell project! Now my brain is trying to combine all your builds into one colossal superbuild...
você é simplesmente demais. Fico horas e horas vendo seu incrível trabalho. Moro no Brasil e não vejo Profissional igual.
You are damn fun to watch! If ever I've seen someone comfortable in handling their tools you are it. Great entertainment in every video. Really enjoy them all. Thanks.
Your sir are a true master. Nobody uses their tools like you do. You are my hero. ;-)
man! this was one for the books. great job jimmy

Awesome. Your dogs quickly adjusted to the sound of the bell :)
Just shows how much work goes into something that you assume is so simple!

I absolutely love your videos. Watching how you make things and your woodworking skills have always impressed me. I always look forward to your uploads.
Hello Jimi I from Russia! And I very much like all your ideas connected with classics or old times. I watch all your video and I look forward to the new.
Very clever my friends nice touch with the bell too
Sua criatividade e habilidade para construir são maravilhosas, admiro muito seus trabalhos! Boa sorte, sempre!
Love it. It reminds me of the primitive churches in Cades Cove,
amazing! that dog house was over the top!!!
you never cease to completely amaze me!!!!
man you make it look so easy, your truly a master craftsman.
Yep. There you have it. Diresta has finally gone to the dogs. GREAT vid and techniques. Rob
I've seen Diresta do some crazy shit over the years, but some of these table and miter saw techniques take the cake. Very well done sir!
Cool way to cut longer boards on a mitter saw. Great build.
Your dogs overcame that bell, then rested. Nice doghouse!
When you think, "that's beauty, but i can think in something like that" jimmy come in and throw pure creativity in your face. Congrats man ! You're a real inspirer !!!
The most awesome use of that bell ever, just love it!
