  • In this video, I take you through the steps I followed to create the board I'm using for my Operation Dark Winter solo campaign. This board is inspired by the New York City streets.
    If you want to learn more about this campaign, here is a page dedicated to it:

    Your boards are incredible. That you included the painted markings for buried utilities and construction is especially cool to me - for several years I located and marked underground utility lines - so I have painted many of those same markings in 1:1 scale. And your wife did a fantastic job on the graffiti. Despite the minor imperfections (my projects are full of them too) that is a board to be proud of. Cheers!

      Thank you very much, that means a lot! It was a cool experience to create this board and some lessons was learned along the way. I had many other plans originaly for this board like a aerial train ot highway, a subway and other stuff but I had to stop at one point ^^

    It's really neat how different people can use different materials to accomplish similar goals depending on their skillsets - here's MDF, I might use foam tile, someone else might use cardboard or 3d printing, etc. I love the construction cutout and the building foundation tile.

      Yeah exactly :) and I also like these custom pieces. It add some nice variety to the board.

    These are probably the best modular urban tiles I have seen so far. The little details like the tar patches and spray paint for construction are nice touches. Same with the graffiti on buildings. Something I have seen others do is use thin eva foam for the curbs/sidewalks. It's easy to cut and texture. For the lines, the paint pens seem to be clean lines, maybe hold a straight edge ruler and run the paint pen along it.

    • @TheSoloWargamer
      @TheSoloWargamer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks ! The problem with the lines is that the fine sand I added to texture the road is not that fine. Using a pen, it grip on the sand and doesnt make a smooth line. I tried masking tape + spray paint but same problem. The masking tape doesnt absorb the différence in height of the sand and the paint quickly bleed below the tape.

      Thanks a lot! To be honest I didn't had much time to record new missions lately, it's quite a long process, especially the translation. I have to say that 50 missions for this Dark Winter campaign might have been a bit too much ^^
      I'm currently working on a brand new campaign with a brand new game board set in eastern europe and this time I'm trying to film all the steps so I can do a nice video at the end :)

    Maybe try using a paint marker or a sharpie to draw the street lines. It would give you more control over the flow.

    How many different road layouts can you get using the 16 tiles you did and how many buildings can you fit?
