- Rallycross cars are insane. 600 horsepower, all wheel drive, 0-60 in under 2 seconds, all while being able to jump and smash bumpers for a whole weekend. And now, thanks to our dude Steve Arpin, we're able to take a dive into what makes one of these ridiculous racecars work.

It's crazy it has 600HP out of a small 2-liter engine. Even crazier he said it can do 1000 hp without the restrictor. Pretty sure without proper maintenance, that engine would eat itself in just 2 weeks.
Cranky Pants rally cars get a full tear down and rebuild after each event.
Most say you would be lucky to get 500miles with out issues.
They are run at top RPM and load constantly. Most engines would need repairs if run for 500-1000 miles on that level. If they don't just give up & die.
I absolutely did not know this. Thanks I shall use this information to my advantage on people that are pushing over limit on stock block thinking their car will never break.
@@devinbender8428 wrong an rally engine needs to at least get 3 events (if i remember corretly) and wrx has a resticted amount of engienes as of last season

Words can't describe the level of enthusiasm no matter where I'm going and how much driving I do it is beyond Fun every single time and just keep getting better. Awesome to see a tour of this beast of machine. A great example of too much grip was watching q1 and q2 in Latvia this weekend in the GCK machines. The cars were too planted to keep their speed in the corners. Seems like such a tricky balance to pull off. Always changing based on weather, what heat you’re in, track grip, type of gravel. Thanks guys!

I got a 140hp Fiesta.. it's a lot of fun.
In the UK Fiesta STs are common as muck, they're just so boring to look at. Wouldn't dream of buying one.
But yeah can't deny they're fantastic little cars.
Personally if the Fiesta was a awd system it would be one of the best hot hatches ever. 300hp and awd.

1000hp from a 2 litre I4 engine, and people are mind blown about f1's 1100hp v6's.
f1 engine is 1.5l

Do you realize they all have their own purpose, right? RX cars aren't able of 350 km/h + speed...
slap that engine in an F1 body or a NASCAR and yes it can do that speed, of course a ford focus can't do 220mph, it's a brick when put next to an F1 car.

I may never get to drive one of these in real life, but Ken's RSRX is one of my favorite cars in Forza Horizon 3. Can't wait to drive it in jolly ol' England (and Scotland) when FH4 comes out!

It's actually crazy to think about what kind of power numbers you can get out of a engine with almost no displacement.
Why is that so crazy I think they have formula 1 motors making that and they have TINY BIG MOTORS lol but seriously we are reaching a point if your car can't run a 10.5 in the quarter or some Ludacris 0-60 time you are not doing something right and that's your daily lamfo
It's so crazy because if you think back 15-20years from now 4-digit horsepower numbers in a street legal car (i knoooow, the RS RX ISN'T street legal) were almost unheard of. This is a 2-liter engine which is RESTRICTED to 600ish horsepower and capable of twice as much. Put that thing in a time machine and send it back to the 90s and it will shred pretty much EVERYTHING. The crazy thing isn't really the car itself but the technological advancement we were going through in this time period.
@@Phonophobia Think back even further and they had 1.6L engines making 13-1400hp in formula one.
They had! BMW wanted to use turbo motors and used 1.5 Liters engine. They said it had something close to 1400hp, but I don't believe that. Even in that qualification mode, 1 one lap I have to guess maybe closer to 1200hp. Which is still a shitload of power BACK IN 1984 ;) (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M12) TH-cam has document etc. So in last 40 years we learn how to make motors that don't blow up in 2 minutes and cars that can take beating 2 hours straight

Its refreshing to hear a driver who knows so much about his car.
not really. He said it's a 2 liter engine which I'm 99 percent sure it's not. It is most likely the 2.3 rs engine with the 2.0 block from the st, escape, fusion, etc on it. If he did the work on this car he would know this. It's a common known this g that the rs is the superior motor but is limited to around 450 hp because of its open deck. Would make no sense for a rally team to build an actual 2.0 ecoboost motor when the block bolts right on to the rs.

Hey Steve saw you race in Ottawa when WRC was there, cool to see you at Hoonigans and to have actually seen you in person. As someone who lives here its rare to see cool shit out there lol. Hope they have another WRC race there and to see the hoonigan car in action.
How do you go about getting the track so wide? The wheel mount definitely looks like it's pushed out quite far but I'm guessing that's mainly to make room for the brakes. Do you just have to rebuild the suspension arms from scratch as long as you like?

The Focus RS is already an awesome and very capable car, but this one is on steroids to a whole new level. I daily drive an RS through the windy country roads and totally love it, so I can only imagine how much fun it would be to drive this beast.

It’s crazy to think they run them so restricted - I think it’s great that each individual marque uses its own power plant but surely it would be more efficient to use one engine/management system across all teams, as I assume restriction is to save competitiveness?

For those of you who dont know inconel is a high temperature alloy used in aerospace and extreme high temp applications. It has a high nickel content and is super expensive. And heavy believe it or not. Nickel is a dense metal
