Another thing, this was when Venus put together what is still the longest winning streak in the women's game this millennium - 35 consecutive wins. She was truly something back then.
@@apaarmaheshwari8673 serena did not break it. venus' is the longest since martina's in 1997. serena was undefeated until may in 2015 but she pulled out a lot of tournaments.
Oh my ! I can’t remember the last time I saw a match this good! Venus’ athletic ability is unmatched till this day. I admire Kerber and the rest but damn, this woman was quick!
I still velueve that Venus at full flight was the most majestic thing on a tennis court. Her athletic ability, her movement and court coverage, her sheer power, were a thing to behold. It was a thing of beauty. Serena had the sheer, raw power. But Venus had the grace and artistry.
When Venus has all her power and athleticism working, paired with the fact that she's 6'1 - she's a nightmare. Watch the Pilot Pen final against Monica Seles. She's UNPLAYABLE! Where do you hit the ball and feel like you can win a point?!
Venus, those were the golden years. Your strength and power were mystical and filled with excitement. You moved like a goddess and struck the ball with accuracy and definity. I must say, you have longevity. You are still playing and winning. Bravo, to you my Beautiful Black Queen of Universal Tennis !
I miss these days in the women's game. From the late 90s to the mid 00s was the best period in the women's game. The rivalries made it something special. You had the Willamses, Hingis, Capriati, Davenport, the two Belgians- Kim and Justine. Those were the good old days.
A bit too late for me mid 2000'. It was already a lot about big hitting. That's why Hingis got more and more in trouble. The 90' are perfect for me in womens tennis. But yes the rivalieris were great and women getting fitter was also a thing.
I'll never forget watching this match after I got off the school bus during the first week of my 8th grade year. It was so dramatic, especially when Richard got up and left the match with Hingis so close to winning... Venus went on a tear after winning that point at 3-5 15-30 and never looked back. Such a remarkable athlete, it seemed in her dominant years especially that she was so mentally tough and came up with her best stuff when she had to. She hit winner after winner in the final games of this match... And her movement was so good, especially for someone over 6 feet tall.... hopefully she makes a good run at the US Open this year, she's a remarkable champion and a terrific athlete!
Even though Venus had a short lived "peak" I still believe at her peak she was the more dangerous female player in history. Her speed, athleticism, power, and explosiveness was outer worldly.
I might agree with that except that it is hard to argue 2002-2003 was not still her peak. She reached 5 of 6 slam finals at one point. She lost them all to Serena though.
The best match of the year 2000. Both girls were 20 years old, opposition of style(Hingis magic, intelligence, placement. Venus power, agility, quickness) and their will to win. Something you hardly notice these days.

Possibly the best women's match of the decade but absolutely the best match of 2000. The second best of the year was their Wimbledon battle earlier. Of course, the rivalry was bitter because at the time they disliked each other so much that Hingis and Davenport plotted to meet one another in the final by each wiping out one of the sisters. Hence why the match was so tense.

Hard to believe that they eventually played on the same doubles team in a world team tennis match, looked really happy to be out there with each other complete with high fives and smiles. I bet somewhere along the way they buried the hatchet.

Really very well said. And what amazes me is that she moves so well for her height. Extremely agile.

I never saw this match. The most grueling rallies women’s tennis can produce. Just incredible.
Love Ya Queen Vee...you changed the game and made us proud.
I am huge Hingis fan and great admirer of Venus. This match no doubt the best between these two rivals and legends.

What a match! Punishing.
The best match was at Wimbledon against Davenport who was retiring. I would love to see that match on TH-cam.
One of the greatest female tennis match of all time!

Wow that’s insane
So good!!
Excellent, both players did their best.
Now this was the rivalry because they always had such physical matches. But Serena was always the big payback.
The U.S. Open crowd is outta control

Venus had a lot of dramatic semifinals at the open.
1997 def. Spirlea 76 46 76
1999 lost Hingis 16 64 36
2000 def. Hingis 46 63 75
2002 def. Mauresmo 63 57 64
2007 lost Henin 67 46
2010 lost Clijsters 64 67 46
2017 lost Stephens 16 60 57
Looks like there was a bit of heat between the two at the end.
How can u miss thr smash venus missed at 3-4 adv hingis that made Richard Williams walk away? Damn u can't miss the drama come on now
Gosh Venus used to hit to hard.
I just love Martina's tennis - stunning! She is an intelligent magical genius who did not need to grunt..
i kinda wish she did grunt though
chico I know what you mean...
She was a coke head too.
That 1st set looked like Venus won it 6.0 lol... how many unforced errors in one set terrible!
21 errors. The later two sets were much better - 9 and 17 respectively.
This a horrible picture quality - unwatchable.
