The Tarm Ruins are REALLY a huge example of what I meant when I kept harping on (in the Ages LP) about Seasons' puzzle and exploration feeling more organic. It's not about fetch quests or macguffins or mini-games. It's, "Can you figure out how to get through here with the tools you have?" It's one of my favorite parts of the game, and really, one of EVERYONE'S favorite part of these games. Most of Ages puzzles, to me, just felt like busy work. The obstacles always seemed like arbitrary things that you need to wander off to find something to get: for the bridge to Symmetry City, you have to wander off to find an animal buddy to find the carpenter guys. To save Symmetry City, you've got to take the Tuni Nut to Patch to get it fixed. To get to the Moonlit Grotto, you've got to deal with the damned Tokay. To open up either of the Dungeons in the Goron Mountains, you've got to do the minigames to get the stuff to get the keys. That doesn't feel like an adventure to me, that's running somebody's errands.
Here, it's just, "Okay, you have a bunch of tools. Figure out how to get there." And to me, that feels WAY more rewarding. You're exploring, you're blazing a path. Sure, there's still a little bit of macguffin hunting going on (you need to find the treasure to open up the Ruins, and the last gem doesn't unlock til you beat Unicorn Cave), but on the whole, it feels less arbitrary than Ages does.
That said, the narrative thread of Seasons is definitely weaker (although I wouldn't consider the story of either game to be groundbreaking). Veran and Onox are both flat characters, but at least you get a little more personality out of Veran, simply because you see her slightly more often.

I agree, I'd like to see another Zelda game that experiments with metroidvania-esque progression where you have to figure out where to go with just the tools on your back as opposed to forced story-based progression or just having everything open to you at once.

I love this area. The music is great and very memorable, the playing with all the seasons is an interesting puzzle without being an unfair mind bender, the return of the original style lost woods (with a twist) is a cool callback, as is the entrance to the ruins proper with the armos all lined up. My only wish is that more of the game had been like this, rather than limited to the back quarter.

Hey I got a cut scene @ 15:36 when I crossed that bridge and he didn’t?? I wonder why? Do you know??

@@shadeshiest22 It's been a while since I played this, but if I had to take an initial guess, it's possible that you're playing a linked game. If you put in the passwords for the other Oracle game (in this case, you would have played Oracle of Ages first,) I believe it adds a couple of flavor scenes to prep you for the added final boss that shows up once you finish off the original final boss of Seasons.

@@darklinkification oh wow yeah maybe that’s what it is, I’m playing the game(s) on an Anbernic RG350. Haven’t played oracle of ages yet but maybe both games are the linked versions or whatever so you don’t miss anything... thanks for replying!

Tarm Ruins. Easily the standout segment of Oracle of Seasons. The other comments have covered pretty much everything I'd have to say, save this: The Gasha Nut in the ruins proper is the first, and by far, the most convenient Tier 5 seed location in the game (both games, really). So if you wanted to farm up the Rang Lv2 Ring (which is made to work specifically with the treasure of the Tarm Ruins) or a Green Ring, this is the best time and place to do it.

When you start playing OoS for the first time, the old hag did appeared at the entrance to Ancient Ruins. But when you continue playing through the Linked Game from OoA to OoS, she won't appear anymore.

I heard that the switch will remake these games and maybe oracle of secrets (the cut game) that would've made it a trilogy.
