Brian, in a way I wish I never found you and your camera crew lol. After seeing your Apprentice S2 video, I bought that plane and started flying immediately. After seeing your first P-51 1.2m video I bought that as well. Now, I went ahead and purchased the NX8 as well; I just now have to try and figure it all out. Thanks for being a literal beacon of knowledge and hope for all of us pilots out there. You've found a lifetime fan here and someday I hope to be able to bring that Mustang out and take to the skies with it as you have. Stay inspirational! PS: I know it sounds corny, but I'm building my Eflite P-51 1.2m Mustang along with you in this video LOL...
Brian, I want you to know how much I admire you and I have an example for me, I don't miss a video of you, I'm very happy that you share your videos with us, I really like your presentation, explanation, dedication, knowledge, your equipment I also have and I am a fan of Spektrum I have a Dx 7 and all my Dsm2 receivers very high quality equipment, thank you Brian, God always bless you and protect you and give you great health, a big hug.
Those videos are the absolute guides. Not only to decide for a purchase, but when I assemble a new plane I watch it before to be sure that I didn’t miss something. More than often you are more complete than the manual. And your tweaks are a must. After all this, after flying the plane for some time, I come back to see the type of maneuvers you do and try to mimic. Thanks a lot !
I always learn something new when I watch your videos. Don't worry about taking longer time to cover all the little details or repeat certain procedures when putting together an RC plane. The devil is in the details! Thank you and keep it up.
keys like that on the case are to keep HONEST PEOPLE HONEST. A screw driver could pop that lock in a heart beat .....don't get me wrong Brian i do appreciate the long explanations they are most helpful but i DO get a kick out of your distractions when it comes to details....reminds me of my dog all i have to do to distract her is yell SQUIRREL and she goes off when you do it i yell squirrel and pee myself laughing. You and Megan are doing a fantastic job informing and educating us all and i sooooo appreciate it since i now have an NX8.... best rc channel on utube by far keep up the excellent work..... i now have 6 planes due to your excellent teachings.... bravo god bless and pray for spring im in ontario canada
The P-51 1.2m combined with the NX8 and Smart packs, is the perfect perfect thing! I love this airplane, I have one already but I’m gonna buy a ton more because it’s just an amazing bird! Thank you Brian for the awesome review, you rock!
Don’t change anything with your videos. I’m on my third view of this video and I’m seeing and learning stuff I missed the other times. Best videos on rc planes on TH-cam!!!!!!!
Awesome! Thank you! We're very stubborn, so no plans to change ANYTHING - LOL ;) It took us about 1500+ Videos to start using LAV mics - LOL ;) I still HATE them so much, but they have REALLY improved our audio quality greatly!
Super cool warbird, absolutely my favorite!!! We've come a long way from the day's of flying the A330-600 in the paved parking lot struggling with crosswinds, avoiding light poles and trying not to hit concrete curbs during the landings. 🍻🍻🍻 Oh those were days🤣🤣🤣
Great video…couldn’t help noticing your awesome camera operator seemed to like your idea of using the other hole there when you adjusted the elevator. You guys are funny! Keep up the good work!
I noticed you don't use your taildragger wheel to steer on your takeoffs. But you fly with rudder. Interesting. Beautiful plane. I just threw a bigger scale one in the trash that never flew. I built it with my son but it's nitro. And nowhere around where we moved in O.C. CA, allows gas powered engines. So I took everything out and saved the electronics. It took me a while to get the landing retracts perfect too. So it was a sad day totop. But seeing this video pop up today made me 😊 happy. Plus the more fun in the second hole comment was great too 😀😃🙂
@@BrianPhillipsRC It was a gasser. Had to drive 2 hours to be able to fly it. It wasn't quite finished yet though. Sitting in the garage making me sad.
Just ordered thru your link hope it worked for you. Saw one of these flying today the size seems about right for throwing in my back seat area without taking off the wings. I have always liked Mustangs and back in the day, I had a GP 40 size mustang with a YS45 a really hot motor that that made the plane a bomb
You will love this plane. It is a good-ole-standby...every RC enthusiast needs one to pull out and fly from time to time. This P-51 is still one of my favorites to fly, and we have had a LOT...in fact, we've reviewed this plane 3 separate times, and earlier revisions too would put us up to 4 times ;) I love it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Now I will have 3 solid planes that I can toss in the back seat area of my car without taking apart. The Mustang, the 1.3 Valiant, & the 1.2 T 28.
Thanks for the great video. You could have flown escort with the P51 while i was flying my UMX Radian the other day, a pack of crows were chasing me. Almost got me too. Too late on Nx8 review, i just got a RadioMaster TX16s.
Yep, you'll have a steep learning curve, but you can do it. I was looking all over for the crystals when I got back into it, and I couldn't figure out that you have to "BIND" the transmitter and receiver together. It's so much better, SOOOOOOOO much cheaper for so much more technology that ACTUALLY works ;) We can help you along.
Thanks Josh! We have some absolutely gorgeous sunsets around here, and sunrises are also amazing. Side-note, when we built this house, I put two windows in the master bath, and now when I'm in the shower, getting ready, I can watch the sun rise - so cool! Also I can get an idea of the wind conditions while I'm getting ready. This was a happy accident in the construction of our home here.
Gday Brian how are you? Watching this video all the talk about "garden tools" reminded me of the last time I played golf, I only hit 2 good balls all day..... I stood on a rake........ Lol...... But it wasn't a Red rake........ Your killing me here mate... Teasing us with that big box behind you...... Great job guys (camera crew).. Take care

P-51D model Mustangs have always been my favorite of all airplanes. I wished i had an R/C Mustang. . . . . .Someday. I have my little Hobby Zone Sport Cub S2 trainer!
You CAN do it. If you want too, you're probably 6 month to 1 year away from doing it from ZERO experience, if you're highly motivated, and put in the time. To be clear, I'M NOT EXAGGERATING... This was my 3rd or 4th plane was the 1.2m P-51 BLONDIE (this one with a different paint job, and NO SAFE). AND I was landing it in my street in front of my house. Seriously, you CAN do it. Step 1) Sport Cub S2 UMX bit.ly/3cDYUW1 - th-cam.com/play/PLXTH0DstRDc5gY8qX_x8kAJq3glGMXjDy.html Step 2) Real Flight 9.5 bit.ly/3q5rSUF - I suggest this since you can fly EVERY DAY...even when weather sucks, but I suggest it second, so you can have a REAL plane to motivate you. Simulators are great, but you'll need to be MOTIVATED to keep doing it. @@BrianPhillipsRC Thankya for being so positive! Ive studied all thru junior high & high school on airplane & helicopter flight, aerodynamics, & flight controls. I was an airplane mechanic/maintanence/jet engine mechanic during my time in the U.S. Navy, Naval Aviation! Working on & being around the real birds every single day was an awesome experiance to say the least! Ive had 3 nice, R/C choppers in past years & was so-so at flyijg them. Much harder than flying an aR/C plane for dang sure! Ive always wanted to try "fix wing" & the friday of Labor Day weekend 2 weeks ago, i was watching R/C Saylors on youtube. They were introducing the Sport Cub S2 & talked bout how easy this plane was to try & fly even for 1st time flyers. After watching their video on this bird, i was hooked, & i wanted that lil plane so bad i could taste it! Next day on saturday i was at Hobby Hut model hobby store in G.J., Colorado & i found the Sport Cub S2. . . . that bird was immediately mine, lol lol lol! brought it home & ive been playing with it off n on this past week, learning, & having fun. Oh yes. . . . its had its share of minor crashes but its still kept on flying even after thourough inspections. . . . .until yesterday morning when a paniced nose dive in the grass field behind my house here broke the plastic propeller. . . . . .so now im grounded until my order of 3 extra props & 3 extra batteries from Horizon Hobbies comes to my doorsteps! Ive been trying to find "carbon fiber" made 130x70 props for the Sport Cub S2. . . .no such luck as of yet. Do you yourself know of any i could find somewhere or at least some stronger more durable made props of that size??? Like i said earlier, ive been having alot of fun at learning to teach my self how to fly my lil bird & theres really nothing hard about any of it for me to be honest with ya because as I've stated above, I've had the "learning knowlede" & "work experiance" on aircraft in my back pocket, so thats been purty helpful indeed! I wannuh get my girlfriend into the hobby as well. . . .but she needs a big confidence booster! I just hope i can be that for her. Thankya for your reply & for your help as well. Ive watched a few of your youtube videos as well & i must say youre an awesome R/C pilot. Hopefully i can be as awesome as all you "🔥hotshots🔥" out there. I wannuh graduate to a bigger, heavier plane soon so that i dont have to wait for a 3-5mph breeze or none at all here in colorado just to fly my lil one! I look forward to more of your videos. Keep up the great work & fly safe. Take care. . . . . .Rodney.
Stumbled on your videos. Love the honest and sincere reviews. Now need you to do a review on the HSD F-16. Mostly cause I just got it and want to see your opinion! Lol
I haven't started working with HSD, but if they wanted me to review their stuff, We'd definitely be game. Give me a plug when you talk to them, and see if they want to have us review something ;)
I finally broke down and bought an NX8. Got it today and im about to transfer all of my models from my dx6e. Got the orange grips because I liked the looks but I cant bring myself to rip the grips off my brand new nx8. Maybe later I guess. Lol. Probably getting this plane soon also. And a bigger heli. And some g2s... 😂
I myself am also strongly interested in garden tools and will be getting a giant red "rake" also 😉. Looking forward to your hopefully super long video about it!!

Can't wait to watch the video on prop balancing with nail polish! Would have liked to see the firmware update on the NX 6 too. By the way, I loved your video on the horizon hobby focke wulf fw 190! Must have watched it like 3 times. Love the easy build of it. I'm on the fence on it. Really want to get it!
Coming soon Jim! Thanks ;) If you like the FW 190, go for it. It is a GREAT plane. I wanted to say the P-51 (1.5m) was better, but it's just not... Both GOOD, for sure, but the FW is more detailed, and flies better - the double whammy! Fw190 1.5m bit.ly/2NswTZ2

I bought 3 planes after your reviews and thank u for what u do and Thx for your response. On your video at 1.56.37secs. You talk about trimming. Can u do a video on trimming on this plane? I take off and my P51 loses steering before i take off such as going to left or right. also, I think it's also all over the place in air. I would like to know more on trimming.
The reason you're struggling to trim is you're thinking of trimming on the ground vs in the air. They are two different beasts...especially with he P-Factor of a warbird. Get it flying, then trim it out. If you have a bad behavior on landing, then make the mechanical trim on the tail wheel, but on TAKEOFF, you're probably experiencing the pull and torque from the power of the prop trying to "SPIN" the plane into the wrong position, and this is a common occurrence with warbirds. You will have to spend many many takeoffs to get this under control, if you're new. It's hard, but when you get it, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment.
Hey I just got this plane love it and followed along on your set up, I’m caught up on the safe sect setup. I’m using a dx8e and all the programming was much the same to your nx8 but however when I set aux2 to safe select toggle for on/off it doesn’t seem to turn the gyroscopic features off. I know it’s connected as it runs through the power up twice when plugging in the battery just can’t get it to switch from safe to only as3x then to nothing. I would greatly appreciate any help!
@@BrianPhillipsRC by forward programming do you mean designating it to the D toggle as you had done in the video, because if so I have that set up and it changes ax2 in the monitor menu when I flip through the toggle. However it still (when flipped over) wants to correct to level in all three toggle positions. If that’s not what you mean by forward programming I would love to hear more about it as I’m newer into these more advanced planes, thanks again!
I just ordered the NX8, no big deal. Also, when comparing the cost of the NX6 vs. NX8, the NX8 comes with a $18 strap, so now you're looking at a $22 price difference.
I just came back from 2 successful flights including my maiden. Both using 3S, one flight was 5 min and the other 6. I felt that the 3S was underpowered for this plane so my next flight will be on 4S.
You don’t have to use wifi if you want to use one of the bnf templates. When creating a new model, select the icon “BNF” and it gives you a list of models. This list is embedded/loaded with the firmware. Your could show people the list (find the model in the list to show it is there) and then back out and do the manual setup. I still think this is the p51 to get. 😀
Hey Brian, I don’t want to be a pain in the neck, but I’m wondering what batteries, Chargers, and such I should buy straight out the gate. 3S, 4S, how many should I get, ??? etc. Keep in mind ,I’m a Virgin Pilot, I am going to learn the basics on the Volantex mini mustang,I pray that is possible. I have one shot to buy the plane of my dreams since I was 12, and that’s the June Nite P-51. You’ve been so cool and Patient with answering all my questions, really appreciate you brother!!! I just want to get everything I immediately need, at a tolerable price!!! Thankyou Again, YOU ARE AWESOME 😎
Don't ever buy a battery you don't have a specific need...you'll be wasting money...they're quite expensive. If you want the June Nite (Great first warbird, but not probably 1st plane status, in my book...maybe #3 to 5...) Here's what I would encourage you to consider... P51 1.2m / 1.5m (make sure you get the 1.2m...NOT the 1.5m - Trust Me!!!) - bit.ly/3bU5icI G2 2200mAh 3S (one or two...they will be used with other planes too) - bit.ly/3hQvYMI G2 2200mAh 4S (one or two...they will be used with other planes too) - bit.ly/2L1SgiM NX8 (if that's too much, the NX6 will be a very close second choice) - bit.ly/3mbVuNB S2200 (This charger is pricey, but it's the top of the line, if you want TWO at a time, this is the way to go, and you'll buy less adapters, which are crazy expensive since the batteries are new tech still) - bit.ly/398ohO6
That is hilarious!! I was actually sitting here talking to the screen..."Don't forget the spar Brian, don't forget the spar....don't put those screws in, don't put those screws in.....you put the screws in"!! LOL!! ;) Another great video, even with the shameless use of adorable kittens to draw viewers in. Ha ha!!
I'm totally new to flaps Brian. Could you confirm with me the more aggressive angled flaps are take off flaps and the middle setting is landing flaps? Do you use both positions or are you only using the most aggressive position? So their main purpose is to create more lift so you can come in slower to land?
The more deflection is for Landing. The LESS deflection is Takeoff. Flaps change the shape of the wing, and reduce stall speed. They also induce more drag, so they can help slow the plane down, while not dropping into a stall. Additionally, they make it easier to point at the runway (fly down hill) and not pick up speed. This helps for full scale planes, so the pilots can SEE better.
Amazing content. I have been flying TT Evo for a while now and i wanna go for a warbird. I love P51 and mustang is the plane which got me to the hobby. I have a grass field to fly off the planes, so do you think i can go for P51 1.2 version to start my warbird dream :) will i be able to handle it and does it do well on grass ops ? Thank you in advance for all your help and content
Brian wondering if you help me out? Just set Safe on this plane on my NX6, channel B. I always have Safe on position 0 and AS3X only is on 1 and also 2. With every plane I've set up, Safe always has limited movements and AS3X gives max throws. However on the P51 Safe has huge throws. Position 1 AS3X has LIMITED ELEVATOR but max throws on rudder and ailerons and position 2 AS3X has LIMITED RUDDER but max throws on elevator and ailerons. AS3X only on B postion 1 and 2 have never been different on all my planes and this is my prefered easy access "panic" switch. Safe and AS3X can confirm works. Can you shed any light on why I've got different range of movements in my AS3X modes? Thanks for any help you can offer.
Setup the plane the way I set it up and then see if you have issues. Go through the RADIO SETUP part of this video, and you can follow step by step. You will be fine with the NX6 (it will give you the 7th channel you need). Get this working, then see if you have the same question.

Great review! Would you pick this plane over a e-flite Viper 70mm as a first plane or the other way around. I guess I wanna know which one is more easy to handle and land? I can fly almost anything in a simulator but need to buy a real plane now:).
I have only 1 plane but if you want to start big, the Carbon Cub S2 1.3m is good, it has amazing grass landing, but the best is the Aeroscout 1.1m, it has a prop in back so if you crash it won’t break, it’s a tricycle so it’s easier to land and won’t flip forward on landing, both the E-flite Viper and P-51 are good but the Aeroscout and Carbon Cub are best starting I crashed my Carbon Cub and fixed it, just a tip: expect to crash, laugh it off, and then fix it. Don’t get discouraged if you do, you will inevitably crash, it’s part of the hobby.
@@gannonelkins5134 Thanks for your reply. So you don´t think it´s a good idea to get either the Viper or P-51 as a first plane? I can fly almost any plane in RF10 flightsimulator without crashing. Don´t know if that makes a difference. I just like the looks of the viper and p-51 over those you suggested.
@@manstuff6073 Im not to sure, if you can fly on the simulator you probably could fly the P-51 or Viper so it’s pretty much your choice really, whatever you chose, good luck!!!
Neither. You will be a one and done if you pick either. Oh yeah, RF9.5 or older will make a good simulation, but it's NOT real life...REAL FEAR plays a huge part in your success or failure, and it's HARD to replicate. You, if you're normal, will be shaking on your first few flights...not an exaggeration. You will need to learn to control your nerves. It's exhilarating when you first "get it" - but you'll have to take my word for it for now.
If the Receiver and Transmitter both use DSMX (or DSM2) protocol, then you can bind and use them. If you're using any of the listed Transmitters, you can replace them with the NX8 - YES ;)
My NX6, after the last wifi update, died. It only flashes when powering up. I've emailed, called, (on hold for + 1 hour, hung up) every day. Can NOT get an answer either way. It's hard to support a manufacturer that don't/won't answer to return a product if their making. All I need is a RO number. (Reason I asked you about the open tx transmitters). Great video as always my friend! 👍
Call and request a call back; Do it today. If they don't get it fixed, let me know. They need to fix this like yesterday...but don't expect quick reply from email ANYWHERE NOW...it's log jammed EVERYWHERE :(
Hello Ryan and camera crew, I have a quick question I like the June Nite and the focke wulf 190A. What would be the better choice as flight envelope. They both look like great planes, the focke is almost double the price. But what plane do you think would be the better purchase. June nite or save a little longer and get the focke
This is Brian, as in BrianPhillipsRC... The June Nite (1.2m) is in a different size class than the FW190...which is 1.5m...which means basically it's about half the size...I know that sounds crazy...it's only like 300mm different...well, yeah, but it's basically double the size ;) As for the P-51D 1.5m vs the FW-190 1.5m - go for the FW - flies better, more cool details, and I like it a lot better for landings. As for the 1.2m P-51D June Nite - it is awesome, and you'll never regret getting this plane, if you're ready for a war bird...I assume you're flying out of SAFE, and pretty competent as an RC pilot??? If so, get the 1.2m June Nite and LOVE it for a while, then consider the FW, which is really nice too. It flies more than a little better than the 1.5m P-51D...which is a bummer, in my opinion, but it is what it is - I don't get to pick which one is better, but I can say with certainty...it is better. The P-51D is WAY faster, but the P-51D 1.5m is really squirrelly on landings too ;( P51 1.2m / 1.5m bit.ly/3bU5icI ( I use ONE link now to help make my links list shorter, sorry for any confusion) Fw190 1.5m bit.ly/2NswTZ2
What were your actual duo rates and expo after all, did you adjust anything after the flight? I noticed on other footage you’ve been sticking with the rate 90 and expo 30 etc. did you do eventually do the same for this plane?
I do the same general setup, and don't believe I changed for this one... All three axis of control ------- Switch F ------ Position ---- Expo --- Rate ---- 0 --- 5% --- 100% 1 --- 10% --- 100% 2 --- 20% --- 90%
@@BrianPhillipsRC Its me again would the D/R and Expos provided from you be ok for a beginner pilot, I’m currently working my way up to the warbirds now, I will be assembling the P-51 Mustang, T-28 Trojan and the P-47 Razorback all 1.2m. and just double checking?
Brian, I have a question. I want to get this model. I’ve already contacted Horizon and confirmed that they do not sell it without a receiver or with the receiver of my choice, which would be an AR637T and an Avian ESC. Do you think it would be worth the additional expense to replace what is shipped in the BNF version of this model with the AR637T and Avian ESC? I’d like the telemetry, especially the battery voltage warnings so I don’t have to use a timer and guess. What do you think? And, would there be any other advantages to making that change? Great review. I’m at 2:18 now and really enjoying the NX8 setup detail.
No. I would HIGHLY recommend the BNF. It's plenty good. IF you were into Futaba, or JR, or Jetti Transmitters, then I'd say, you'll need to get the PNF, but in this case, and most of the time with BNF's, they're way better value, and the additional telemetry isn't enough to justify additional expense, in my opinion. IF YOU DO, you can still get the BNF, and just get the Avian ESC for the per cell voltage, I believe.
@@BrianPhillipsRC As always, thanks for the advice. I did buy the receiver and avian esc to retrofit an older plane, a P51, that I found challenging. Hung it from the ceiling before wrecking it. Now with my NX8, new electronics and SAFE it is a real pleasure to fly. SAFE level and angle limits are a real confidence building feature. It allows me to try some full control flying while always having that SAFEty net there for me. Thanks.
Hello Brian, THX Your Videos are the Best !! I Bought the new NX8 and a HABU STS and F15 from Eflite. :-) One Question about your Model setup ,..why do you don´t use the ready to go preset-installed Models from Spektrum engineers in the BNF File on the Radio ? in Menue Select Model ...? I found my f15 Eagle and selcted ist afterwards bind also in the Menue under forward Programming and fly :-) :-) so easy and cool ..
Because I want to teach people to use this very powerful tool. If you just download the setups, you'll probably never learn how to do it for any future PNF planes.
Excuse me if I’m incorrect, but didn’t you already review a p-51 1.2m, or did e-flite release a new one? Just curious. Edit: Also, are those tires rubber or foam? They look super high quality
Yes, and I thought I had mentioned it in the video ;) I really like this plane, and have done it three times, technically...once with Esteban's plane, and twice with two of them mine as well....then once back when it was a "Blonde" 1.2 - GREAT plane too! The 1.5m P-51 Mustang was a whole different animal!
I’m just getting back into flying quads again and I’d like to buy either the NX6 or the NX8. What is the reason for getting the NX8 compared to the NX6? All information will be very helpful.
Only about $40 more for one extra channel...an extra knob on top and two additional trim buttons. It also has a lanyard, which is really nice! The NX6 is great, and if the extra 10% or so puts you over the edge, it will do 95% of the planes in the near term...but the NX8 gives you a little room for to try to "future proof" yourself a bit. NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB
I have the same plane and I'm astounded with how straight you can keep it at takeoff. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to keep it from torquing wildly to the left.
This is a practice makes perfect thing. P-Factor is the torque that comes from the prop spinning up to speed, and it's a real issue for many rc planes. I have to use a lot of rudder to counteract this strong tendency to veer off on takeoff...
@@BrianPhillipsRC It's amazing how much better one gets with a little practice. Since posting my comment, I've become a pro at this plane. I crashed it early on (It was my second plane after the Apprentice S) so I have a new one hanging from the ceiling waiting for its maiden. But the old one flied so well and just won't quit! I love this war bird! BTW, I love the "red rake" also. Lol! Been flying that a lot lately and it's also an awesome plane.
Anyone want to start a pool on how long until he's got an NX10 too? :) I'm guessing before the end of the year. Also, how much longer than your long videos is their upload time?
With full flap deflection on this plane, as per the manual...it was a bit lacking. Extra hole setting out, and she'll let you pitch up much easier. That being said, I never flare warbird tail draggers, that would be a recipe for stall. You gotta keep this plane flying with power, and get the now DOWN on final, in my experience.
Hey Brian, just received my nx8 and when I try updating the firmware from 3.03 to the newest 3.06 it just goes to the spectrum screen with the status bar then it just flashes off and on while the status bar never moves?
I had mine do some strange stuff, but I assumed it was a poor connection to the internet. Might want to call up Horizon Hobby tech support on this one. If it's working, you'll be fine to use without the Latest and Greatest. Then when you update, everything should come over just fine.
@@BrianPhillipsRC just wanted to let you know I figured it out after I finally visited spectrum website. I needed to update to 3.05 before I could do 3.06 per their instructions. I did just that and the newest 3.06 updated with no issues. I appreciate your getting back and maybe this could help others if they come across it. Still loving the channel FYI
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - Get the NX8 or NX10 - you will soon regret the NX6 decision Pretty please, don't do it. I don't want to have to tell you I told you so. NX6 is AMAZING, and WILL work for this plane, but you will outgrow it in like 3 planes... NOW, if it's super cheap, go for it..."backup" for your NX8 and NX10 that you buy from our links ;) Tx bit.ly/3f4JhZl
@@BrianPhillipsRC well it's $200 for the plane, used, but immaculate condition. Then $150 for the NX6, used but great shape. I'm already over budget, lol, but the bug has gotten a hold of me. 🤣 Is that worth it in your opinion? This will be my first transmitter.
I had no idea the AR 631s were locked out from BNFs. It makes sense now. I took the 631 out of the eflight F 16 and tried putting it into another aircraft and realized there was no way to use forward programming. Up until now I was so confused. Why do they do that? Try to get you to buy more receivers?
It's annoying, but they have their reasons, I suppose to sell you another Rx, presumably??? This is a big gripe of mine too. The Rx should be jail broken, if you ask me.
Brian just purchased and maiden my P51. Have a quick question. When binding the plane the manual tells you to do it while sitting on the mains and tail wheel. I noticed you did it while sitting level on the stand. Which way is correct? I’m asking because during my maiden the plane wanted to climb at any throttle response above 35%. I had to put almost full down trim to make it stop climbing. I’m not sure if this was a result of rebinding it sitting on the tail wheel or not. I rechecked the elevator to make sure it was level and it was. Just to clarify I did set the elevator trim back to center when I checked the elevator. By the way love your videos and I’m one that watches them even when they are 3 hours long. Thanks for what you do for the hobby. My wife may not agree! I’ve become obsessed. Just got back into it after loosing interest when I was a teenager. Already up to 7 planes and only been back at it for 8 months.
Humm....didn't realize the manual called for on the wheels - how exactly are you supposed to do that BEFORE you can open the gear?!?!? LOL As for the "proper" way, give it a try BOTH ways and see what happens "my way" (in the plane stand OR propping up the tail wheel to make it like it's flying) then check out how the elevator responds with SAFE on. Thanks for the question, but you'll learn a lot trying this, so hope you don't take offense to me asking you to try it ;) I know you're gonna get more out of this exercise , then my just answering it....plus it'll only take about 5 minutes - Good luck!
Brian, you’ve had the NX8 for a while now so perhaps you’ve already started to set up Flight Modes, but if not, give it a try. That little control stick trick you do to set up your SAFE/A3X switch is unnecessary. Ooops, I was wrong here. You do need to do that because the receiver that comes with the P51 does not allow you to set up Flight Modes that activate Safe/Level etc. Now that I have mine that came as a surprise. Another surprise was that the ESC is not Smart compatible, so no in flight battery telemetry. I’ve gotten spoiled with my other models, having those features. It’s a bit of extra expense but I’ll probably replace the ESC with an Avian ESC, and the receiver with a 637T. After I do that the following comments will be useful, but for the stock B&F model they do not apply. If you use Flight Mode, you can assign one to each of three switch positions (a reason to use a different switch) and have one for SAFE level and limits, middle for limits only, and the third position for no limits, full aerobatic. The other advantage of setting up Flight Modes is that is how you access the PANIC feature, which I assign to the bind button. Set Panic to go immediately to Flight Mode 1 (SAFE), and then enable Panic on Flight Modes 2 and 3. Its a nifty feature that allows you to do and emergency rescue when in a screaming stall/spin. A guy who flys as well as you might not need it, but I do, and others might as well. I’ve started purchasing new receivers for al my plans and refitting them, some got new Avian ESCs as well. The availability of SAFE, Panic, Limits and the nice timing and mixing on the NX8 have transformed flying RC for me. I have to thank you for getting me headed down this road. It was your videos that opened my eyes.
I'm so glad I could bring some help, but looks like you're off to the races now!!! These new Rx'es are amazing! It's incredible how much better the planes fly with stabilization!!!
Hey Brian,m you and CC are a class act! I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong with mine. I set mine up just as you did and the prop still goes in the dirt. I gave it more up elevator and full flaps and the prop still hits the dirt. Needless to say it's getting frustrating. I not ashamed to say it may be pilot error.
Flaps will make it nose over. You might have to start out with no flaps, and then get into takeoff (half) flaps, then you'll be good to go. It's a tough go, especially if you're in grass.
If the lipo is damaged, it might be a good idea, but make sure you're careful. You don't want to have it catch your garbage on fire, or the garbage truck on fire (Seriously....this is a thing). The idea is to discharge the cells to nothing, if you can, then I usually run a nail through the cells, with all sorts of PPE on to protect my face, eyes, and hands...or I shoot them.
Hi Brian & camera crew, I'm a new boy to the flying world, well sort of I did a bit some 15/20 years ago and oh boy haven't things changed in the hobby, I'm over here in the UK and at the moment it's cold and not nice to be outside flying, anyway I've just got myself a NX8 when I first bought it it had a problem and would not start up & so it went back and the SD card was corrupt anyway they have sorted it, now i'm another one that's got you as a tutor, and I'm following your channel it's brilliant so don't ever stop, now question could you please explain what is F-Mode as my NX8 is in mode 1 is it something I need to worry about, Thanks in advance Regards Paul
We have some more recent videos where I dabble in the Flight Mode setup more...thinking about it, off the top of my head, I think we did it on the Hangar 9 Ultra Stick and Hangar 9 P-47 recently

Glad you like them! Thanks Michel!
I always learn something new when I watch your videos. Don't worry about taking longer time to cover all the little details or repeat certain procedures when putting together an RC plane. The devil is in the details! Thank you and keep it up.

Thanks, you too! Happy Easter to you, but sorry it's so late!
I agree we've come a long way, but I loved those days!!!
Great video…couldn’t help noticing your awesome camera operator seemed to like your idea of using the other hole there when you adjusted the elevator. You guys are funny! Keep up the good work!
She would make sure that I end up in the back yard if I got confused - LOL ;)
I noticed you don't use your taildragger wheel to steer on your takeoffs. But you fly with rudder. Interesting. Beautiful plane. I just threw a bigger scale one in the trash that never flew. I built it with my son but it's nitro. And nowhere around where we moved in O.C. CA, allows gas powered engines. So I took everything out and saved the electronics. It took me a while to get the landing retracts perfect too. So it was a sad day totop. But seeing this video pop up today made me 😊 happy. Plus the more fun in the second hole comment was great too 😀😃🙂
Why'd you throw it away?!??!?! I bet it was an awesome plane!
Glad we could brighten your day with talk of the 2nd hole ;)
Thanks to you my wife just bought me one of them cases for my birthday through your link with the other insert so now I can put my old DX radio it with my new NX radio.😳=🎂😇
Awesome! It's way nice!!! Good for you William & Happy Birthday
If your old case will fit my NX8, I would like to buy it!!!!!
I hope every one of you, buy stuff from his links and tell everyone about his, and camera crews chanel. So them be the biggest rc chanel. Keep up your super work, love also the building part and all advices.
Thank you so much Martin!!! We really appreciate your kind words ;)
Step 1) Sport Cub S2 UMX bit.ly/3cDYUW1 - th-cam.com/play/PLXTH0DstRDc5gY8qX_x8kAJq3glGMXjDy.html
Step 2) Real Flight 9.5 bit.ly/3q5rSUF - I suggest this since you can fly EVERY DAY...even when weather sucks, but I suggest it second, so you can have a REAL plane to motivate you. Simulators are great, but you'll need to be MOTIVATED to keep doing it.
Step 3) AeroScout 1.1m - bit.ly/30MNn1c - th-cam.com/video/vfZZQXx7jU4/w-d-xo.html
Step 4) 1.2m P-51 June Nite bit.ly/3bU5icI + NX8 bit.ly/3mbVuNB + 2200 3S bit.ly/3xl5IQJ OR
2200 4S bit.ly/3iiTjbI
If you don't cut corners, and you fly the wings off the Sport Cub S UMX and AeroScout - there is NO reason why you can't be flying that P-51 in SAFE in less than one year. I'm not BS'ing you.
Take care. . . . . .Rodney.
Thanks for your instructions 2 yrs ago ---- Now I cant stop buying planes
Awesome!!! ;)
Brian on your throttle on your radio to get 100% take the caps off and slide the switches to the right then you’ll get 100% up and down. 😉
REALLY?!!??! I will have to try this out! Thanks William! You can also Re-calibrate the sticks ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC You’re right I just learned that the other day, now everything zeros out better thanks for your help Brian.
Love the new experience with the second hole.....😳 WoW camera crew👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Right?!
Awesome! So glad you took the plunge!
The P51d especially in that color config is such a beautiful plane, those low speed passes kill me
This P-51 is a great plane!!!
Be interesting if you could store screen shots of the data on the transmitter so if you cannot look down, you could reference later
That would be cool, if you could keep a chronological time, recording....like a black box for telemetry!!! That would be COOL
I myself am also strongly interested in garden tools and will be getting a giant red "rake" also 😉. Looking forward to your hopefully super long video about it!!
Awesome! Thank you! I bet you'll go for the 2M rake??? LOL
You betcha! I was so pumped when I heard it was 2m, it’ll be my first BIG rake!

Wow, thanks! We appreciate your kind words!!!
Thanks ;)
If you like the FW 190, go for it. It is a GREAT plane. I wanted to say the P-51 (1.5m) was better, but it's just not... Both GOOD, for sure, but the FW is more detailed, and flies better - the double whammy!

I'm not familiar with that plane?
I’m sorry Brian I think I replied to the wrong person.
@@BrianPhillipsRC it makes sense. Thank you.
Nice flyin Brian!
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks!
I have been recently racing the sky angel rare bare and am looking for a first 6s plane what would you recommend.
We review so many planes that are 6S. This might be a good one to just scroll through and than ask specifics about the plane in question.
The "second hole" is always better!😁👌
Humm...sometimes it's more trouble than it's worth ;)
Hey I just got this plane love it and followed along on your set up, I’m caught up on the safe sect setup. I’m using a dx8e and all the programming was much the same to your nx8 but however when I set aux2 to safe select toggle for on/off it doesn’t seem to turn the gyroscopic features off. I know it’s connected as it runs through the power up twice when plugging in the battery just can’t get it to switch from safe to only as3x then to nothing. I would greatly appreciate any help!
You NOW have to go into FORWARD PROGRAMMING to turn it on.
TRUE! Also ONE more channel, and Two more Switched, and a Knob - who doesn't need another knob ???? ;)
Is it possible for you to do a class on trimming on the NX8?
Man that baby is fast!!
She is fast and slow, and does both with such amazing beauty!!!
Great review Brian ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it
@@BrianPhillipsRC ♥️
I just came back from 2 successful flights including my maiden. Both using 3S, one flight was 5 min and the other 6. I felt that the 3S was underpowered for this plane so my next flight will be on 4S.
Congrats! 4S will make her scream!
Cool, I've never done it before. I'll try it out. Thanks!
Super awesome show this. 👍😁
It really is! Thanks!
If you want the June Nite (Great first warbird, but not probably 1st plane status, in my book...maybe #3 to 5...)
Here's what I would encourage you to consider...
P51 1.2m / 1.5m (make sure you get the 1.2m...NOT the 1.5m - Trust Me!!!) - bit.ly/3bU5icI
G2 2200mAh 3S (one or two...they will be used with other planes too) - bit.ly/3hQvYMI
G2 2200mAh 4S (one or two...they will be used with other planes too) - bit.ly/2L1SgiM
NX8 (if that's too much, the NX6 will be a very close second choice) - bit.ly/3mbVuNB
S2200 (This charger is pricey, but it's the top of the line, if you want TWO at a time, this is the way to go, and you'll buy less adapters, which are crazy expensive since the batteries are new tech still) - bit.ly/398ohO6
Have ever had to take out a warp in a foam stabilizer?
I have had a few, but never actually taken the warp out. It's supposed to be easy, and I've fixed foam before, but not to straighten a stab.
Love that P51 I have the same plane.
Great one to have River!
Ha ha!!
LOL - We're so glad you could be yelling at the screen in our honor - Next time, yell louder so we can hear it - LOL ;)
Which video of yours did you use a paper clip to prevent the canopy from coming loose?
P-39 1.2m - you made me think!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you Brian much appreciated for the detailed response 👍🏾
Another nice video! Is there a compatible "shock absorber" aftermarket gear I can install in this P-51?
Not sure, sorry!
How would you trim the rear tire
You can just grab it and move it, or open it at the back or at the front to get to the set screws that lock it on the control rod.
Greetings from the UK!...
Beautiful plane... Can your NX8 link to the Spektrum dongle to use the laptop trainer software? Cheers!
YES, for sure...we even used the "Batman" controller from one of our night vapors, so my smallest boy could try his had at flying.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you! 👍🏻
What is the link to the bigger battery that you use in your NX8? I can not find the battery.
Ohh....the 6000mAh!!! Here's it is...
Bigger Tx Pack - 6000mAh 3.7V - bit.ly/3bZ0nHW
nice plane brian. i wanted to buy the mustang too but i decided on the air tractor. :)
I think the P-51 is on sale right now??? Maybe BOTH???
@@BrianPhillipsRC the p51 (1.2m) is unfortunately sold out in germany. The new p51 is still too expensive for me.
@12:45 "Going into the second hole", "sounds like fun"? 🤣😱🤣
A lot can happen in 30 seconds
Yep ;)
Hey Brian this video helped me alot. What size screwdriver do I need for the 4 wing hex screws?
I can't recall, but I assume it'll be 2mm like almost all the planes we do..

I love this plane, one of my favorites
Totally awesome P-51!
@@BrianPhillipsRC appreciate all your comments and info, I know you are spoken highly of in Ryan’s pilots lounge and that’s where all the Hard core RC pilots hang. I really enjoy your reviews, and Hats off to the camera crew👨✈️👨✈️👨✈️👍🏼👍🏼😎😎😎
Great job, thank you guys.
Thank you too!
Great review! Would you pick this plane over a e-flite Viper 70mm as a first plane or the other way around. I guess I wanna know which one is more easy to handle and land? I can fly almost anything in a simulator but need to buy a real plane now:).
I have only 1 plane but if you want to start big, the Carbon Cub S2 1.3m is good, it has amazing grass landing, but the best is the Aeroscout 1.1m, it has a prop in back so if you crash it won’t break, it’s a tricycle so it’s easier to land and won’t flip forward on landing, both the E-flite Viper and P-51 are good but the Aeroscout and Carbon Cub are best starting
I crashed my Carbon Cub and fixed it, just a tip: expect to crash, laugh it off, and then fix it.
Here's a list of great choices as "Beginner" planes...but even still, they're a BLAST to fly, and you'll be in the hobby for more than a fraction of a plane - seriously, I know you want this and the viper, and you'll be flying them with skills in no time, but take my advice, please, you'll thank me later ;)

Can you explain the differences in receivers ? can all my planes in my DXe, DX5e, DX6i - CH40 - .now be able to bind to my new NX8 ?
If the Receiver and Transmitter both use DSMX (or DSM2) protocol, then you can bind and use them.
If you're using any of the listed Transmitters, you can replace them with the NX8 - YES ;)
Best rc channel on TH-cam! Can the 7th channel on the nx 6 be used for something other than safe or is it programmed for safe only?
YES, as far as I can tell...anything you want on the seventh channel.
Hey Brian,
Considering a mustang would you recommend the 1.5 or the 1.2? Which did you find more fun to fly?
1.2m for sure. 1.5m is harder to fly and land BY A MILE.

Why not call, and request a call back. I HATE to hear you're having issues...

They both look like great planes, the focke is almost double the price. But what plane do you think would be the better purchase. June nite or save a little longer and get the focke
This is Brian, as in BrianPhillipsRC...
The June Nite (1.2m) is in a different size class than the FW190...which is 1.5m...which means basically it's about half the size...I know that sounds crazy...it's only like 300mm different...well, yeah, but it's basically double the size ;)
As for the P-51D 1.5m vs the FW-190 1.5m - go for the FW - flies better, more cool details, and I like it a lot better for landings.
The P-51D is WAY faster, but the P-51D 1.5m is really squirrelly on landings too ;(

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you for the reply. And yes im experience in flying. I really like your reviews there the best
Does the 1.2 p51 mustang tip stall easily?
All planes tip stall if you turn too sharp, and too slow. This plane is great flying, and performs better than average in the stall arena.
Will the plane slow down like the 1.1m Trojan?
What were your actual duo rates and expo after all, did you adjust anything after the flight? I noticed on other footage you’ve been sticking with the rate 90 and expo 30 etc. did you do eventually do the same for this plane?
I do the same general setup, and don't believe I changed for this one...
All three axis of control
------- Switch F ------
Position ---- Expo --- Rate ----
0 --- 5% --- 100%
1 --- 10% --- 100%
2 --- 20% --- 90%
@@BrianPhillipsRC “ I see said the blind man 🤙🏽 “ thank you very much I really appreciate you and your teams time.
Thanks.
I’m torn , Brian. I can’t decide between the P51 and the Corsair. I currently have the T28 and would consider myself an average pilot. Suggestions?
Yes, he did review the June Nite a few months back, however this one has the new AR631 receiver...and it's just a sweet model!! :)

I'll help you with your pool...I was told "NO"...but I would not be upset if they twisted my arm with an ix20 ;)
Let that muddy your waters - LOL!!!!!
Brain, where can buy a large capacity batteries of NX8? thank you
Me in my head, flair,flair,flair,flair....um he didnt flair...lol...I know it was the elevator.. love this p51.I have the 1450mm redtail.
Buying this with a Spectrum NX 6 tomorrow from my local shop for $350 total! Will be posting video soon!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - Get the NX8 or NX10 - you will soon regret the NX6 decision
Pretty please, don't do it. I don't want to have to tell you I told you so.
NX6 is AMAZING, and WILL work for this plane, but you will outgrow it in like 3 planes...
NOW, if it's super cheap, go for it..."backup" for your NX8 and NX10 that you buy from our links ;)

@@BrianPhillipsRC well it's $200 for the plane, used, but immaculate condition. Then $150 for the NX6, used but great shape. I'm already over budget, lol, but the bug has gotten a hold of me. 🤣
Is that worth it in your opinion?
This will be my first transmitter.
Hello à vous ::: c le top cet Avion une bombe !!!!! Stéph de France
Hi there!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hello !
@@BrianPhillipsRC I believe HH has a TH-cam video explaining how to do just that.
LOL
As for the "proper" way, give it a try BOTH ways and see what happens "my way" (in the plane stand OR propping up the tail wheel to make it like it's flying) then check out how the elevator responds with SAFE on.
Keep at it. It is a Balancing act. you will get it
Why should I dispose of my battery after a crash?
If the lipo is damaged, it might be a good idea, but make sure you're careful. You don't want to have it catch your garbage on fire, or the garbage truck on fire (Seriously....this is a thing).
The idea is to discharge the cells to nothing, if you can, then I usually run a nail through the cells, with all sorts of PPE on to protect my face, eyes, and hands...or I shoot them.
Hi Brian & camera crew, I'm a new boy to the flying world, well sort of I did a bit some 15/20 years ago and oh boy haven't things changed in the hobby, I'm over here in the UK and at the moment it's cold and not nice to be outside flying, anyway I've just got myself a NX8 when I first bought it it had a problem and would not start up & so it went back and the SD card was corrupt anyway they have sorted it, now i'm another one that's got you as a tutor, and I'm following your channel it's brilliant so don't ever stop, now question could you please explain what is F-Mode as my NX8 is in mode 1 is it something I need to worry about,
Thanks in advance
Regards Paul
Flight Mode - I use them NOW for some Forward Programming, but at the time of this P-51 I don't think we had needed to use F-Mode (flight mode) yet.
We have some more recent videos where I dabble in the Flight Mode setup more...thinking about it, off the top of my head, I think we did it on the Hangar 9 Ultra Stick and Hangar 9 P-47 recently
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi Brian thanks for your reply understand, I watch and rewatch and you have convinced me I’m going for the P 51 June nite 1.2 because you said :) I’ll probably watch again especially on the set up, eventually I would like to think I could get upto the 1.5 but like you said need some experience before we can get that far, anyway thanks again keep doing what your doing, and wishing you have a great 2022 for all of your family mate
