Thank you Tapash 🙏 From your name I do not suppose you understand Malayalam and so I'm assuming that you read the blogs. Is that so?

    Hey Ashik, This is Mano.
As you said, anyone can learn filmmaking.
But I wish to have another video on "Can you make films?"
Coz I am spending nearly 2 hrs everyday to learn various things in film making... atleast will spend time on industry news, reviews and interviews. But the thing is when can we make films?
Like you did Munnariv. Nowadays everyone having mobile and trying to film videos but what is film making, the business and the reality of a film makers and making is really a separate thing.
You are doing a great job. We are expecting more videos in future. Thanks!

Hi Mano, thank you for that detailed question.
Glad to hear that you are putting in effort to learn. You are on the right track.
I am doing a series of videos answering such basic questions in the coming weeks. These very basic questions seem to be what a lot of beginning aspiring filmmakers you seem to be asking. It is a massive topic. It will take me a couple of months to cover it all. Slowly, but steadily we'll get there.
Thanks again for watching and commenting.

@@AshikSatheesh Hey any idea on "James Cameron teaches filmmaking masterclass"...do you think it will be worth the money for an aspiring fimmaker? I need insights on more technical side of filmmaking.

    • @AshikSatheesh
      @AshikSatheesh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I have been thinking about taking a masterclass subscription for years now. Cameron's session has reignited that interest. I will be able to answer your question faithful only after attending. That along with knowing where you stand as a filmmaker, if you have experience of making shorts, features, assisting, or if you are just starting to learn and so on.
For finding answers to most aspects of filmmaking you can always turn to the internet. You will find them. That is how I learned.

@@AshikSatheesh Let's just say i have always been passionate about filmmaking. Have directed many shots in my head. But haven't wrote down my first script yet. Currently I'm on a path to learn how i can bring out things in my head and recreate them exactly how i visualize so that others can enjoy it. I have subscribed to all top English filmmaking and script writing channels and this is the first Malayalam channel i have subscribed for films😅.
Have saved up money to buy DJI pocket 2 as an experiment to see if i can get visuals exactly like i want. Saving up for a great laptop too to color grade, edit and play with right music for the visuals. Most importantly i have to put pen to paper on weekends as the first step.😅

@Dixon Basil Great, that is exactly what you should do. Write, make films, show it to people and repeat.
I'd suggest not to spend money on a cam or laptop now. Shoot shorts with your friends on your phone, edit on your phone, and spend the money instead on food for your friends. Then put the short up on TH-cam and let your friends and family thrash it. No Cameron, or books, or I, will be able to teach you what you will learn in that short time.
To show you that I did exactly that, here is the first ever short that I made with my friends while I was in college. th-cam.com/video/ProaRWKAT2c/w-d-xo.html&t I had made 10 shorts of my own with whatever gear I had with friends and family.
Save your money. Gear is not what is going to help you get the image you see in your head. It's the script, actors, crew, lights, set, costume, makeup, the edit, music, and yes the gear. But it's just a tiny fraction of the image you have in your head.
Spend money on actual work experience. If you get good at that, people will give you how much ever money or gear you want. But you have to first get good at that.

      Hi Vibha films,
Thank you for your kind words and for buying the book. I am glad you find value in our writings.
I understand that you do not speak Malayalam. As you have seen already all my writings and books are in English. But not all my fellow Malayali aspiring filmmakers are that fluent in English. Hence 𝐈 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦. I want you to know it wasn't an easy choice to make. I am cutting out majority of the people online. But I wanted to do my part to enrich the culture that I was born into.
One option is to 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨𝐬. But right now I am still so caught up with the process of producing one video a week that I am unable to find time to do so. I do not have a team helping me with all this. It is just me, a laptop and my spare time. Once I get some money flowing in from this channel I will hire someone to write subtitles for all episodes. Till then I will have to send non-mallus to my website. If you 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 (iashik.com/newsletter/) you'll get a copy of it every week in your mail.
𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.I want to first thank you for such specific questions. I would love to answer them for you and detail. But I already have a set of questions that came in before that I need to answer first. I hope you understand. Rest assured that I have made a note of them and I will answer them in detail. It might take us a couple of months to get to it.
But I don't want to keep you waiting till then. So let me try to answer them in brief here.
      𝟏. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭?
A story is all the novels and short stories you have read. To turn a story into a script you do the following:
      - Split the story into scene based on location, time etc. Each new place/time is a new scene.
      - Inside those scene now take out all thoughts and feelings. Retain only action and dialogues, things you can show on camera or hear on speakers.
That will be your script to start off with.
      𝟐. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲?
I have two benchmarks that I use for knowing which idea I should develop further. Of every idea I ask myself the following two questions:
      - Does this idea resonate with me? At this point in my life.
      - Is this just an idea or is it a story?
I have talked and written in detailed about this. You can find it here iashik.com/how-to-find-a-story-idea-idea-to-story-journey/
Hope these help for now. Thanks once again for watching, commenting, and buying our book. Glad to be of help in your journey.
      PS: Where are you from?
