Hi Rocio. That's an excellent question! Once the hens reach the end of their laying cycle, they are humanely euthanized and processed into food products like chicken noodle soup, or into pet food, or garden fertilizer. Nothing is wasted.
Hello, please this is a very huge investment relative to the density of the birds, any particular reason? Who designed and build the installation? Do you allow physical tour?
Hi Nick, thanks for your question! To sort out if you're allowed to have backyard chickens you'll have to reach out to your local municipality. The local bylaws will be what determines if you're permitted to have chickens, and how many you're allowed.
Hi! You change your clotes and shoes befor you go in, to protect the birds, but is it not a bigger danger for the chickens that, they can meet other birds and rats who carry the diseases which is harmful for the chickens? Thanks
Hi Geza. You're correct - free range and organic birds are more at risk from wild birds and rodents than their indoor counterparts. That said, our farmers take steps to protect them by fencing the outdoor spaces, and carefully managing rodents on-farm. There are always trade-offs when farming, but each housing system and farm type have measures in place to mitigate risks to the hens, to keep them safe and healthy.
Hi Joe. So long as the feed components are certified organic, they can be fed to organic hens. When we talk about "supplements" to hen feed we're talking about additional vitamins and minerals, to ensure they're getting a healthy, well balanced feed. This is a farm I would definitely support and deserves to do great because of how well they care for the chickens
State of the art layer farm, bravo!
Good information.
Nice video. I'm curious about the hens, what do you do with them once they stop laying eggs? Thanks.
