Having worked in a garage for years, I get a very reasonable doubt about "physically impossible because of 2cm misalignment". Essentially that is a rubber mount, and it's the back of the exhaust, meaning it's almost free floating. My guess is he just didnt have the strength to pull the exhaust those 2cm and secure it in a whole. I see no problem here, it's should've been perfectly possible to fix it at home. He also talks about "those thingys", white ones. Those are zip ties. Half of the cars on the road are held togeather by these. Probably more than half lol, in places you do not see. They're very sturdy and work better than nearly anything. Never use duct tap to fix your car, always use zip ties. Much more reliable and easy to deal with. If you dont want to carry a lot of tools in your car, all you need is a few packs of different sizes of these (choose sturdier ones), and you're good to go. Will save you in quite a few situations, as you can even join them togeather for length, if need be.
Engineer here and this is stuff of nightmares.
