I met Brian when I was a kid my parents took us to Ottawa... The PM came in with his entourage he saw me... stopped came to say hello... He took time to say hello to a little boy who had no idea who he was. I can still remember his voice.

1:17 for those unaware of the Joke Trudeau is making here, Mulroney was from Quebec, and didn't have a seat in Parliament when he became Tory Leader. So he had a Tory MP in a safe seat resign so he could run and win a by-election there despite him not living there, the joke about the log cabin in Pictou county (In Central Nova) is that he doesn't actually live there.

Yeah but Mulroney actually does have roots in Central Nova in that he went to St.FX. Also, Trudeau attacked him over it despite the fact that both Turner and Chrétien would do the exact same thing in years to follow.

Well, Canada followed America, which began throwing off its Cold War Consensus in 1994 when the GOP was led by Newt Gingrich. And then the Republicans kept sinking lower after 2009, the Tea Party came to power in 2010 with its no compromise stance, and now, finally, the final form of the GOP came in 2016 and its war against convention and reality. Whether the Right in Canada follows the American example completely remains to be seen and predicated on GOP performance in 2024. A big win for Trump would embolden Canadian Righties to follow his example. A staggering defeat may keep them relatively sane.

Both the Progressive Conservatives and Liberals were in favour of free trade and for good reason. We're an exporting nation. You can't have all of the things that you want including citrus fruit and fresh fruits and vegetables out of season without a good free trade deal. You also can't get access to medicines whose constituent ingredients don't exist in our country. The GST helped pay off a big portion of our deficits and reduced the debt. Chretien and Martin were smart for not eliminating it. Globalization was going to happen one way or another. Why wouldn't you want trade deals with dispute resolution mechanisms? Sorry....but Justin is pretty awful...and so transparent in his corruption and lies. His father was incredibly superior to Justin, in regard to intelligence and quick wit. Justin comes across as what he is....a privileged ass who feeds money to his friends. His father did not come across that way at all. His father actually had some real class, and knew where he came from.

@@steveleeart He gets elected because the Libs occupy the most central part of the spectrum in Canada....regardless of what we all might think. That's how they keep getting elected. The Conservatives clearly don't do much for themselves, as they keep fighting amongst each other to push the party to greater extremes. It's no wonder they rarely get elected...lol. They have a really stupid penchant towards self-absorption and back-stabbing themselves. If anyone should finally have a try, it's the NDP or Greens, who at least will focus on decent legislating....if the fucking pro-Israel lobby doesn't try to interfere.
