You also can't get access to medicines whose constituent ingredients don't exist in our country. The GST helped pay off a big portion of our deficits and reduced the debt. Chretien and Martin were smart for not eliminating it. Globalization was going to happen one way or another. Why wouldn't you want trade deals with dispute resolution mechanisms? Automation wasn't the fault of Mulroney or Chretien. High fuel costs? Not even close to the real cost of producing and refining the energies and combatting the negative externalities.
