Mission Creek Park in Kelowna British Columbia Canada. Very easy access, 1/2 kilometer walk from the Hollywood road parking lot in Rutland.
In this half of the 2 part series I show and explain the area as I found it a few years ago. I was mountain biking through Mission Creek on a beautiful sunny day and I stopped for a break at the park bench next to the green 9.5km stake marker, I rolled myself a left handed cigarette and started to wander around...
This place started my passion for rockhounding. Ever since I was a kid I liked picking up cool rocks and stuff at the beach but this place definitely started something for me, something that I love to do, something I can do on my own its peaceful out in nature... but its also smashing boulders with hammers like Thor it's really therapeutic lol. I don't think about anything but the excitement of finding something cool. I also found a snake here under a rock one day so be careful 🐍 Always wear proper protective equipment, be safe out there, have fun and I hope you enjoy the video ⚒💎🇨🇦

What basic (affordable) tools would someone want to get to start out with some rock hounding?
I have been pondering trying to learn and do a bit of looking around for this kind of stuff and coincidentally live near this location so maybe it'd be a good place to start.

I thought you were supposed to leave nature untouched in parks so that everyone can enjoy the natural beauty.

You're not wrong but people have been gold panning and such in this park specifically for decades. Provincal and national parks are a big no no. City parks some are yes and some are no. Just do your research beforehand and get permission if need be so you don't get yourself into trouble. Also, Google is pretty helpful!

Untouched no. As you found it yes. That means if you dig a a hole...you fill it back in when you leave
