This is fabulous, thank you so much for sharing! I want to recycle some of my old makeup tubes (that are extremely sticky and gunked up) and I can't until they're clean, so I'm super excited to try this out!!! And the fact that you only need baking soda and water is wonderful, so many other tutorials have half a dozen products - this is simple and effective! 🩷
This totally works... I have tried so many things over the years with different things... and with some rather toxic stuff... that did not work. I had a small audio amp and I picked it up and it was so tacky. I almost threw it away because of my prior experience. It didn't really take that long but yes, you have to press down and move back and forth and keep the cloth wet with the paste and dip the cloth very often. Thank you!
I was skeptical but I figured I would rather try this than the tips that said to use gasoline ( try to get that smell out! ) or rubbing alcohol. I prefer to keep flammables away from my electronics. I made the paste a bit thicker than she did and when I first started rubbing I didn’t think it was working. Soon the goo started coming off! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the solution, it worked perfectly. I used a toothbrush to scrub, I cleaned and old controller that was already yellow and now it looks brand new.
Thank you for the tip! It worked for my spinning pen toy. I took apart the pen and scrub a plastic part with baking soda paste for testing. The part became clean and no sticky at all after I washed it with water. I had tried alcohol 70%; it was a mess.
Thanks so much for this video. I just tried it, and it works. I used my fingers, just as she did, but I found that a wet sponge, dipped into the baking soda/water slurry, worked even better for me. Problem solved!
I think the rubbing is the most important part. I've rubbed off sticky plastic with only my finger and some pressure. The baking soda likely absorbs some of the oily stuff and works as an abrasive to scrub it off.
Thank you, I hate that tacky feeling! My second hand raycon case feels pristine now. Luckily I remembered to cover the charging port, pretty sure baking soda in there isn't a good thing.
Amazed! Baking soda and water works on my sticky lipstick tubes. Tried a bit of liquid soap and an old toothbrush…. ugh still sticky. Then I used the baking soda/water with toothbrush. Voila… like new… no stickiness! Thank you so much.
I almost tossed my SkullCandy headphones out, I tried everyone here but your baking soda actually worked!!! Thank you so much, to purchase a new set of headphones by Skullcandy is most definitely not cheap, so Thank You!!!!
Super skeptical about this until I successfully did it myself! I have an "old" computer hard drive enclosure (USB) made of plastic that you can swap out the 2.5" hard or solid state drive from. The case was gross and made worse by me trying to use damp paper towels to clean it off. So now it was sticky and covered in fibers. I pulled out some old baking soda from one of those freezer/refrigerator arm and hammer boxes that had been in there WAY too long (literal years) and was destined for the trash. Worked like a charm! Two for one, got to reuse old baking soda and renewed my SSD enclosure! (Note I did disassemble the enclosure to take out all the electronic parts.
My “Bella Rocket Extract Pro Plus” blender which is black plastic turned sticky all over. I’ve also seen this on umbrella handles, especially when they’re left in the car for a few months. I think it might happen more to BLACK plastic than to other colours.
I have a battery bank that has this same situation just like my umbrella handle which seemed to degrade into a sticky gunk. Why the hell does this happen?
@SteveBlount79 The chemicals in the plastic start to break down. If you're lucky it just makes them sticky. I had the button on my car's shifter handle just fall apart into sticky pieces. Possibly they used too much plasticizer in the plastic button because other parts were fine.
Have tried Spirits on plastic e.g umbrella handles & remote backs .Which is affective; quick but can damage your goods being overly aggressive on your plastic. Diluted with a water applied to rag with only a small amount of spirits applied to the rag after . As did not have Isopropyl Alcohol on hand to tryout.
OK... I was very skeptical about this. I have tried a lot of products that don't work. I even tried degreaser... Baking soda works amazingly well... I just rubbed it on with my fingers like you show, on some very sticky yellowed plastic and the sticky layer just comes off. Thank you!
nice ! it worked on my logitech mouse. the side (2 part rubber) is so sticky. I had trauma cleaning using acetone or isopropyl alcohol since it makes rubber worse. this method is safer, and my sticky rubber is turn to matte again
Sadly this happens because idiot manufacturers are using a coating to cover cheap plastic and make it look and feel posh, velvety. In a fairly short amount of time, that starts to perish and this happens. Baking soda acts as a abrasive agent and helps better than most solutions. For me it helped soften some of that coating on a lever wine bottle opener that I wasn't just ready to part with 😂.
I don't recommend using your fingers to rub it off, the plasticizers can be unhealthy to say the least. Rubbing it heavily will cause a good amount to be absorbed into your fingers. Use gloves or at least a paper towel.
Let me know if you tried this cleaning hack and how it worked!
Great tip. Best solution so far. Without polluting and very little waste. Easily solved my issues. Thank you
I'm glad it helped!
THANK YOU!
I used baby wipes daubed in baking soda and elbow grease.
Worked fine.

Nice one! 😆
Brilliant! It worked perfectly on the handle of a magnifying glass that I was afraid I’d have to toss since it was so unpleasantly sticky. Thank you!
Yeah!!!

Didn't work for my Amazon Fire remote 😞

By the way, I used bounty paper towels and 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean it, I had to rub hard.

@RM_FX thanks for the awesome reply 👌
Talk about going around all the houses to get to the rear gate .
Thanks a lot

rub hard with baking soda and water
why not put the baking soda paste on an earbud or a piece of cloth and rub it off?
I'm going to try this on my range hood.
Please let me know how it turns out!
Thank you.

Pro tip... Try this with a soft brush like a toothbrush. Same result, but 100 times faster
@@Fr3ddeh Thank you for your response and the additional tip!!!

Yeah! I'm so glad to hear it!
Be careful next to electronics as baking soda can make metal parts rust
It worked great!
It's works quickly.thanks
I am glad it was helpful for you!
I used baking soda and a toothbrush and it works like magic.
Great tip about using the toothbrush! Thanks for sharing!
Good idea.

USE Hand Sanitiser Gel !!!!!!
I just tried that and it didn't work for the sticky, tacky plastic.

Why do you kinda sound like Winona Ryder 🙏
