We have a big Portuguese community, in SA. I think they will loose their minds. 😂😂😂 Each year we have a huge Portuguese Festival in Joburg and lots of Portuguese restaurants. #Portugal 🇵🇹 I even dated two Portuguese girls in my younger days. 😊

I love watching the rankings jump around this time of year with everyone playing. (I know rankings don’t mean much sometimes, but I enjoy analysing the movements up and down the ladder.)

Try being a USA fan since the early 80's
the ranking matters in January 2026 when they do the pools for the world cup. I guess no team want to be in the situation of scotland in this world cup, so it might sound wise to get at least in tier 2. Right now wales could be tiers 2 by winning against italia and Fidji which does not sound impossible.

-vs Scotland
First time Uruguay will be getting a window like this, would have been nice to have mentioned it. Also pretty annoying that sky won't be showing them.

As an Ireland fan, I hate to say it, but I see the argument for NZ at 2nd. Hard to say the narrow win against England counts against it when Ireland lost to England in the Six Nations. NZ knocked us out of the World Cup and played in the final. It’s fair to say they are really number 2. Hoping Ireland will have some points to make against this argument this weekend…

Ireland definitely deserves to be above NZ currently. NZ still needs to impress under new regime but so far so good.
I totally forgot that england won their game against Ireland in the 6N ! Crazy.
But still, Ireland stocked quite a lot of points in the past couple of years while NZ had more losses than they are used to in the same period. So the gad will take some time to fill.
To be honest I don't think there's much difference between the top four teams right now. They're all roughly equal to each other, with England a little behind, and the remaining teams left in the dust.

That 2011 - 2015 abs team was something else. I doubt we can reach there rugby is much closer across the top 4 teams, whereas before it was NZ and everybody else.
Btw why does the abs fans give B. Barret so much hate. The guy gave so much to NZ rugby. As a boks fan i wouldn't crucify PSTD for playing bad especially after the work he has done for us in this past 2 world cups.

It would be tough. The higher you are, the harder you fall when you lose. SA would have to constantly play and beat all the other teams in the top 5.

I like the idea having 12 teams on each side of the white board as one of Wales supporters mentions in the coments below... for sure as we can start seeing who else is qualifying for next world cup... it can be by than 27th ranking team perhaps may be 24th however at the least 11th and 12 th have a chance to shift on the left side of the board... 😊

As a Welsh supporter I was pleased with the Welsh performance. But results matter here, Wales now need to win matches so we have to win a Grand Slam, as well as the Autumn tests. A very hard task. I'll be praying a lot to Saint Jude for the next ten months, he's the patron saint of lost causes.😮😊😂

As someone who grew-up in the 1970s, it seems crazy that Wales are now out of the top ten.
I was encouraged by England's performance against NZ. Lots of people here have been moaning about Borthwick but he seems to be slowly building a good side.

after topping our pool in the world cup, its a shame that all the issues since 2019 are finally coming to roost for wales, our first ever time dropping out of the top 10, sad time for a team with so many amazing players that just don't seem to be able to gel together

True, but unfortunately, SA will not gain much further ground. Whereas Ireland(if they win the next game) or New Zealand can make big gains on them.
The gap is only there as points are doubled during the World Cup final. There would be a very small gap if this wasn’t the case.
Personally, I don't like the idea of the double points gained and lost during RWC finals. I feel like your reward for winning games in the finals should be advancement in the tournament.

@@franzfanz Why? The World Cup is the tournament where all teams are on equal footing, no home ground advantage (bar the host nation). I think it is fair.

In defence of Italy, the players, not the Italy logistic team.
Italy are based in Auckland , (you aught to go and get some interviews), and flying out to Samoa and Tonga each game.
now Italy with in 3 days flew to NZ, then form NZ to Samoa.
This meant Italy trained in Auckland at 10 degrees and then went to play at 30 degrees with high humidity .
Samoa have been at home for a month.
They were never going to be able to give a stable performance.
Asa fried said they should have set up camp in Queensland so at least the meteorological conditions would have been the same.
Tonga has a10-13 degree difference so we will see.
Yeah I saw they were based in Auckland - I guess it's closer but yeah it's cold!
I think that the rankings should be 'reset' after a world cup to reflect where the teams finished by ranking them in that order.

@@archerzar5411 I disagree. The RWC is a tournament and tournament is usually not a great indicator of a ranking. The current system is the best I'm afraid. Look at Argentina and England finished 3rd and 4th due to an easier path but are not in the top two teams respectively in their hemisphere. Would you seriously put Argentina ahead of Ireland??
As the home side, why are Boks wearing their away kit against Ireland? What nonsense is this?
When teams have similar jerseys Ireland and SA do, both wear (albeit different shades of) green, the convention is that the home team switches.

The world cup ranking points should not be doubled, it ridiculous, world rankings are for consistency not for a tournament.
Note for S.A to get double points in the final N.Z lost double points for losing the final. If im not mistaken N.Z went into the final in 2nd and come out of it in 3rd
If Matfield thinks the World Cup runner up should be ranked 2 then does that mean Argentina should be ranked 4 after losing to France C at home?

Waiting to see if Gatland can do anything with Wales. I recon if we finish 5th or 6th in the next six nations the wru will sack him. They'll have to really. We've done so poor recently (with exception of world Cup). Really bad news for the USA. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember that Romania were the poorest performing team in the World cup
Yeah man Romania were in a tough pool, but we're pretty dire. At home the US should be winning. I heard something about their coach lamenting the fact that he didn't get the players together earlier - but that's most coaches at the moment

To me the only world rankings happen every 4 years in the RWC.
They’re only valid till the beginning of the following season. There will be a reshuffle after numerous retirements and new coaching regimes etc.

My opinion is that it gives ranking fic two month period and only reliably for the number one slot.

Despite being such a big country, rugby itself isn't that competitive in the States, if I'm not mistaken. Unlike your other sports. If only you guys can cancel football, rugby will take off immensely 😅
@@Spikeaccount675 As a rugby player myself, one of the big problems is no one plays it in high school so by the time most people get into it, its a club in college. There is also no money in it to incentivize top athletes to play. Hopefully we can turn it around before the world cup we host.

it would depend on the results leading up to those games remember, if the ABs drop a few games between now and then and the boks continue to win I would think the gap would be too large for NZ to jump to first. Will have to wait and see....

Based on this past weekend, it is clear that both SA and NZ probability is closer to 50/50 than 70/30.

Watching the weekend's matches, it's quite noticeable how far SAF is ahead of NZ. There are few positions across the field where SAF isn't clearly better than NZ. I've been following the ABs for almost 50 years and this is the first time in my life I've seen that.
What positions would you say NZ are better than SA?
Front row? nope.. Locks? nope... loose forwards? debatable but no clewar winner.. bakcline? nope
Must be watching different games to me..there is not a lot between the teams as you will likely find out in the RC.

@@nathannweyer4741 actually I’d say ABs have front row parity including their reserves. Certainly in the propping department. SA prob have a slight edge at starting hooker - Marx specifically. Locks slight edge to SA, 7 to SA, 6 even, 8 to ABs. Backs I’d say pretty evenly match all in all. Not convinced with efficacy of bomb squad. Weren’t decisive in WC final against 14 and I thought SA lost structure when they came on against Ireland last weekend. Ireland actually found more space with the bomb squad on. So yeah, SA will hard to beat at home but they’re definitely not streets ahead of the ABs, France, England or Ireland. They certainly deserve their current ranking however.
@@DavidSmith-yi8ou I like your take, I would say I am massively impressed with the young props in the AB's like Fletcher and Ethan. However I don't think you can deny the efficiency of the Bok front row and also the depth. I disagree that the bomb squad hasn't been proven. Time and time again they change the game. All Blacks in Twickenham for example or England in the semi-final just to name a few. I think the backs are an interesting debate because both sets are so good but also are better than each other at certain aspects of the game.
As a rugby fan you get to watch your team and as many other games before the wife/girlfriend announces you will be sleeping on the couch. last weekend I got SA/Ireland and NZ/Eng and got to sleep in my bed...

@@karl5599 this is how is always is. I am not happy with the Boks at #1. We are usually better as the “wounded, but not out yet” team. So I hope the Boks drop to about 3 or 4 in the coming months, stay there for a few years and then win the next WC from 3rd place.
