    I just retrieved my doll house that was made originally for my mother by my uncle. Over a hundred years old. Watching your videos give me guidance on where to begin. I just had my 59 birthday so its been a while since I've played with it. I can't wait to begin.

    My dear friend’s husband, a space engineer, liked a building in Europe so much, so he took loads of pictures of it. Came home and figured out the measurements, and built it from scratch! 🤯 it’s an absolutely gorgeous yarn shop for his wife decorated for Christmas. It’s stunning. And a great work of a genius man. 🩷

    It is so rare that I see an authentic aged dollhouse filled with lovely old things. And it is not a fancy museum piece, children have actually owned and played with this house. It is soo beautiful and you have made a great job with cleaning and redecorating it ❤ Beautiful video also, so relaxing, great job thank you for sharing.

    Ladies, the copper bowl on legs that you said “you never knew what it was” is actually an old world Sicilian piece called a brascera and it was the best way to warm up a room if there was no fireplace. It was a basin made of copper and brass (or iron), inside which the embers were placed so that it gave heat and spread it throughout the room. Sicilians would refer to it as a conca..
    With regards to your beautiful whimsical dolls house, it’s has been a treat to watch you both delight in its restoration…you both possess the gift of story telling, your imaginations brimming and alive, the artistry directly from your hearts, completely tangible and resulting in a symphony of visual beauty, always accompanied by quaint melodious well chosen music. Watching your videos, one is left in a complete state of relaxation. What a gorgeous pair you are, generously gifting your remarkable talents to us all. We, your viewers are blessed to witness the bond and loving amicability you both share. Best wishes for all future endeavours…from me, Aurora 😊

    I appreciate that you look at your dollhouses through a child's eyes! A child would have used bits and bobs from around the house to decorate so items would not be completely "in scale". A house this age would have naturally aged- furniture and linens would have faded, pots and pans rusted. Have you ever considered doing a tour of your home?!?! I would imagine you have some amazing decor!

    I am in the middle of watching your video and I just had to stop and make a few comments, one is how wonderful to get a old doll house and the furnishings. The cloves are great because they were used to keep bugs and mice out of the doll house, often moms would make little satchels like pillows filled with herbs and such not just to keep things smelling fresh bug to keep critters out of things, it was a discreet way of doing things.
    Thanks to you ladies I have reconnected with the miniature world! I have looked up so many videos on making miniature furniture and dishes, food and housing I am so astonished how much is out there that can be made so easily and cheaply! I grew up with brothers who built model cars and planes and trains and to this day my eldest brother makes dioramas for his models and has a group on FB but he didn't do like doll house miniatures, but like train sets and building to scales so It is a new addition to learning miniatures that I am grateful for. I sadly admit I never had my own dolls as a child, It was tough in those days. So this could be in a way making up for things now as a adult. :) Bless you both!

      I could listen to and watch you two all day long! Kindred spirits I feel I am with you both. Vintage dollhouses, filled with sweet vintage, played-with treasures - it is the epitome of happiness, coziness and time well spent on heartfelt moments and hours.
      The music you have in the background is so soothing as well.
      I’m working on a vintage Triang now, as well as a vintage GeeBee. In the US, these, as well as anything 1:16 scale is near impossible to find. eBay is good, of course, but shipping isn’t always a service offered from the seller and then, sometimes when shipping is available, the cost is often hard to justify (an item that sells for $5 and shipping is $26!). Yet, I am grateful to be able to see treasures even if I can’t always purchase as I dream! ❤️
      Continued joy to you both. Thanks for all your amazing videos! Kathleen

    My grandfather who built my Aunt a doll house when she was small. I played with it as a child. Back then it was pretty shabby but still.loved. My grandmother got cancer when I was 20 and my Aunt and grandmother started repairing it. My grandmother was very ill and helped sew new sofa covers, blankets and such. It was hard losing my Gran but I know that spending time with her daughter and talk of times past helped the time she pass the time she had. My Aunt took the doll house home for grand daughter. I hope it gets passed to her daughter and so on. I love that you are restoring this dollhouse., and keeping a lot of the original detail. ❤❤❤

    Some of the small metal objects , the thimble, metal boat and soldier statue, wooden shoe are cake charms . I was given a set of the from 100 yrs ago. Often children would be allowed to keep charms from their slice of cake as a souvenir from the party .

    You both did a very sensitive and artistic restoration. There are few museum curators that could do better! Too many old houses are ruined by new paper and paint! The history shows and makes this an extra special treasure. Thank you again for some of the most beautiful footage on TH-cam.

  • @craftyhobbit7623
    @craftyhobbit7623 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Removing the paper might cause damage to the wood due to its age, so I think that you did the best thing. What I like about these vintage/antique houses is that you don't pay much attention to scale - if it fits, or looks right, you just pop it in. With modern dh's and miniatures, so much of it revolves around getting the scale right. With the living room, I think it's a case of having too many miniatures and not enough room for them all.

    • @maroulio2067
      @maroulio2067 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes about scale- I use what I love and really like the fun and fantasy look of different scaled items in dolls' houses. That is the original way the Duch cabinet houses looked, and also many wealthy collectors today do the same. (I am a low income person but love studying the history of dolls' houses, and have many small items in my bookcase- wish I could have a house for them)

    This was so absolutely amazing. I have an old Bliss house that someone gave me, which it is ok on the inside but the paper is falling to pieces on the outside (she left it on a sunporch and it got very damaged). This inspires me to fix it and put in the old furniture that came with it, and to find some old 1920s accessories. Thank you for this labour of love - it is very inspirational!

    This is just a wonderful video, I redress unwanted/unloved porcelain dolls. The majority of the work I do is assembly and hand-sewn clothing The period I focus on is the European Renaissance 1500-1600. Total respect for all the time and love you put into cleaning and restoring this doll house to a better condition. Dust is much more damaging than many people think to collectibles. Many years ago, I worked with a gentleman whose wife was very much into miniature items.
    She made her own items from Bread dough then paint them and lacquer them. Just saying so if you very need items for you doll house you could give it a try. Worked very well and last a very long time, if not a lifetime. Use baked bread the inside portion.

    Love this. The thimble and small boot looks like Monopoly game pieces, which is no longer part of the game now. I have that same ,"carpet" in the living room. I believe it was a hot pad for hot dishes one time. I don't know the age but it is pretty old. I would have put the extra dishes in the biscuit tin so you'd have more room under the dresser. All is so beautiful and a delight to watch.

    I cannot express how much joy your videos have brought me in very tough times…I think they do because of the sincere love you both show for each tiny, lovely piece of whimsy. This is a loved house-it was clearly loved before you got it, it is now blessed with your love, and you have sent to out to be loved by the world! Thank you.

    This turned out so well. I am so glad this doll house and all of the furnishings went to the two of you. It would have been such a shame if it had been changed refinished and refurnished. Everything you added fit in so well. I am really looking forward to your next doll house and to see the things you make yourselves. I can hardly wait.

    fantastic work in lovingly restoring this gorgeous old dolls house. painting the missing wall papers was the way to go & looks very well done. all the artwork for the walls are very cool. the furnishing of ea. rm. wouldn't be the same w/out them. the drop-leaf kitchen table is perfect. i'm going to ask my husband to recreate it for my dolls house. love all the kitty pets. i hope u don't mind, but i screenshot Sunny lounging in one of the rooms & plan to print it for my art journal. he's so cute. thanx for another very enjoyable film.

    I had forgotten how much I adored a dolls house as a child until watching the two of you. I had a distant Aunt that had one that I was allowed to admire but not touch. I’ve been inspired by you two and Ara Bentley to start making doll furniture and plan to make a dolls house of a grandfather clock. It will take forever I’m sure but having so much fun. Thanks for the inspiration
