For the illumination try the regulator on the right side og the steering wheel ;)
For the illumination: Check all the ground contacts! It is possibel that a contact has been ripped off due to the massive impact.
Just check by giving an easy to reach bulb an extra ground contact while it is switched on. If it lights up you have a ground problem in the circut. Good luck and continue the work. It is fun to watch!
This post needs more likes 😉 I think you're probably spot on.
I think you are right @jinger9980 a ground for the circuit(s) is likely the culprit
One possibility is once you unscrew a ground it never makes as good contact on reassembly unless it's scraped clear of corrosion.
Amazing to watch this wreck being brought back to life, not in a surgically clean, well-lighted garage festooned with every conceivable tool, but on a rain-soaked driveway. with just a few hours of winter daylight.. You're a Star ! 🤩
This a brave choice considering you haven't done that many cars so far! I've always liked to dabble fixing cars but repairing my wife's Citroen C4 nearly sent me over the edge! At one point I was quite ready to fix it with fire! All the best with it!
You have to challenge yourself otherwise there’s no point! Haha fix by fire - I like that 😂
@@NotEconomicallyViablethe police take a very dim view of 'fix by fire'
Citroen saying enough tbh.😮
@@curtisj2165Shit happens and we can always trust electrical wirings 😄
@pedrodaniellopesferreira2916
"What Sally tells of Suzie tells more of Sally than Suzie."
What if this hatred you speak of isn't actually coming from the car? 👀...
What do you think it's like to be a car that belongs to you?... (regardless of the make)
I’ve only recently found your channel and I must say it’s brilliant, you are so natural and I love the fact that you don’t edit out the errors. Keep going, this is excellent content! Subscribed 😂
Really appreciate that. If I edited out the errors the videos would be 2 minutes long haha
Absolutely love sitting here watching your enthusiasm. I lost mine years ago, probably from 40 years of fixing cars, mainly outdoors in all weathers. Still got a few nice cars stashed away though!
Well done, I had a 2004 L322 4.2 petrol V8 with an LPG conversion - lovely vehicle. At some point I needed to remove the dash and I think that it took me a day to do it. I was lucky to find various TH-cam videos where I was able to get bits of vital information. Congratulations on taking it out and replacing it - not an easy job!
Two things:
1. Massive props for including so much work in this video! Very nice to watch!
2. I bet your wife will love it when it's done!
Appreciate the kind words. She's already trying to claim the car as her own lol
Maybe buy another cheap parts RR. You'll be picking away at it for years!
Will probably be stolen when it is done.
@@FluePeak you’re confusing this for the newer models that keep getting stolen with keyless entry. This one still has a physical key.
@@NotEconomicallyViable oh okey :) my bad, saw some pictures of people drilling a giant hole in the trunk to access and start the car 😂
Hey Nino! I think you have one of the best and most honest car channels on TH-cam. I'd love to see more videos from you. I've got so much time for your content. Cheers mate
I appreciate that!
I was honestly expecting the RR to be another more or less hopeless basketcase, so i'm VERY pleasantly surprised by how fast you turned this around and got it back on the road. Kudos man. Well done so far. ..and good luck with the missing illumination.. 😄
Cheers, mate
I hope that you can make this into a full time career and start releasing more videos because you seem like a genuinely nice person. I remember the days when you would wrench on vehicles in the car park of your flat. I'm so glad to witness the growth of your channel. Keep up the great work! It's also funny that you should have a video about a range Rover when I have been seriously considering buying one.
Hi love your channel! As a lifelong car nut and 'tinkerer' I sympathise with your trials and tribulations. Unfortunately an arm injury has slowed down much of my DIY work so I enjoy watching work such as yours from the comfort of my desk. Keep up the good work! Nick
I found this channel a little while back, if you can do it, having more content from you would be amazing!
It’s very entertaining and for a mechanical numpty like me I love watching these.
Thank you!😊
I guess this is the third or so solace for the RR and the way it turned out for you was really nice, but Christmas is coming up and I guess you need every possible contribution! Stay safe and keep them excellent vids coming! 🎉
Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with the result so far. Hoping to get some good miles on it over the Christmas break and see if these things are as unreliable as everyone always says 😂 Thank you so much for the contribution 🙏
For the clock lights, the wheel that controls the brightness could be the issue. I think they have a resistor in them that can fail, it by the headlight control.
The wheel still alters the brightness of the dash LCD panel
Very well done! For once, you've actually managed to make it look easy 😅
Love your videos. You're born to be in front of the camera!
Really appreciate that 🙏🏻
Personally and I’m sure I’m not alone on this but I’d like to see more videos. It’s a big decision needless to say but if you enjoy it and in a position to be able to afford to give it full time do so. You seem one of the few that is genuinely going to itch the flow and doing what you can. Makes it more entertaining and enjoyable to watch somehow than videos with trained mechanics. Look forward to many more videos.
This channel is so refreshing, the guy next door with love for cars and decided to explore that love. Very brave to take on a range rover but you doing so well already. New subscriber gained in me.❤🇿🇦
I have no idea why I ended up watching this as I don’t have a clue about fixing cars. However I really enjoyed it and even hits the “subscribe” as your video was just so very engaging.
Rarely seen such a clean engine/bay; someones loved it.
Your patience and ability not be frustrated, pissed off or angry is amazing
Takes me back i was a windscreen fitter for 10 years .
Broken windscreens have a smell strange , ay.
Never realised the front door glasses are laminated not toughened as an option now. You learn something new every day.
Just as a matter of interest, I have a 50s Cadillac and all the glass including all the drop glasses is laminated, it was called safety glass at the time.
I always assumed 'safety glass' was always toughened glass but that came a bit later evidently.
The Range Rover is an obvious choice for titivation, but you went 'oh no, that's too easy, let's get one with a smashed windscreen/dash' 😅 I love your enthusiasm and it's great you got it road legal again. We just need more Merc Coupe content now 😂
Very, very well done on this one, turning out to be an absolute gem and hopefully will be good for you with the skill and the effort you have put into it, keep up the great work!
Cheers mate
Greetings from Finland! Regarding the illumination of inner controls and knobs - when the windscreen was replaced where the ambient light sensor plugged and installed correctly? That could affect the lightning, as the car might think that daylight is enough if its installed incorrectly. Was the illumination of dials working correctly before the removal of dash? In the video they doesn's seem to work with the first start with the new battery? I would start the diagnose buy getting to know what guides the illumination of dials, before tearing the dash again... Keep up the good work!
This is great! This shows the real pain(and joy), of fixing cars. Fiddling and getting parts, pulling stuff back out again. Even the hitting your head in the trunk lock, been there done this. Keep up the good content👍
Considering that your a teach yourself mechanic this was a bold move attempting a Range Rover, they are notorious wallet drainers, this is like wanting a cat as a pet but bringing home a fully grown panther!
But credit it to you you’ve got her on the road, so well done mate, your an inspiration to the rest of us would be car mechanics.
Your lady is a beauty and supportive. That’s a good motivation
Charge it in series with a good battery until it builds voltage. "Smart chargers " won't put anything in unless it has base voltage.
Fantastic video, well done with the dash, don't beat yourself up over missing the plug, we've all done something like that. You'll have a decent car when done. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks.
Greetings from Australia! Really enjoy your TH-cam content. Like the way you try to tackle all jobs yourself. Like the fact that you laugh at yourself when things go pear shape!
I used to own Morris Minors but now have a far more complex 2001 Camry. Like you I try to do everything on more complex cars like the Camry. Win some , loose some!
Please keep up the great content! Cheers
Appreciate that. Good luck with the Camry!
Living the dream mate, old tat abandoned all over your property, and the missus is fully onboard with it!
Hey, watched your channel from the start. Really had my moments where I was either was screaming at the computer or couldn't watch. You have learnt so much, your stuff ups only made you stronger. Some of the stuff ups have been epic. You did lose me around the time of the Merc, it got really hard going. But now, the latest video is some of your finest work. Taking on the Rover in that state, these things can a
be a nightmare. What a great job
HUGE respect to you tackleing that job, your patience and persistence is admirable. Subscribed and following!
Thanks for the sub!
Hi Nino.
I have been following your channel and I have now subscribed. As you asked what we would like to see more of I can only speak on a personal level, but you have so far kept the vehicles and their restoration costs within reach of the everyday enthusiast. Many youtubers are getting a little too high end and that (for me at least) is no longer of any interest. Many of us don't have full workshop facilities and four poster ramps. Like you I work on my driveway. I've really enjoyed your videos and I look forward to your next project.
Noticed you're close to Chelmsford as the MPD had a Chelmsford phone number. As an ex mechanic myself and from Braintree / Chelmsford originally and now living in suffolk, I'm going to recommend to you my best mate who used to work for a land Rover specialist in Gosfield. He used to work for LRS Engineering and now works from his own premises. He knows these inside and out and would be willing to help you moving forward.
No one can accuse you of a lack of courage….what a mess to take on!👍👍 there are these new things called GLOVES…..they are made of materials like leather and can protect your hands a bit…😜
I admire your enthusiasm, your wife's patience and your lack of expletives when working on the cars. Good luck with your plan to go full time with TH-cam.
I've only found your channel since last weekend and I'm genuinely loving the way you share every little mistake and headmelty moment so that others may learn from them. Thank you!!
Hi, heads up if you're ever removing tape again from windows bodywork or anything without leaving a mess or pulls. Lift corners and squirt Lighter fluid under it, leave a few mins and everything will lift away nice and easy , if it's stubborn, just add more, it will loosen the glue from any surface including paper plastics, glass and evaporates so no lighter fluid stains or marks whatsoever.
It's been a life saver for me many times since a guy told me .
Great vids.
That is quite impressive! Got to be honest, taking a quick look at it I definitely would have said it wasn't worth fixing, but wow what a result! Would be interesting to see a full cost breakdown once all finished!
Great video, I love that you do it with humour, which can be difficult when a car is fighting and trying to bite your fingers!
Hopefully, you will be able to go full time next year.
I love your content. I used to do all my own work on my cars before I left home. I haven't got the time or space now so have to experience it through watching your hard work😁
10:21- personally I'd paint pen mark the arm and spindle orientation.
10:28 - get a small-ish (25/35mm) copper or nylon head hammer from Thor hammers, saves any starting threads!
31:00 - Normfest do a nice electrical contact cleaner with a brush on + many other very good products.
What overalls do you use?
Personally I'd erect a Clark garage thing given the space you have.
Genuinely hilarious! How many hours have I spent doing jobs like this on my own and can totally relate to your plight. The VIN number part of this video was funny, funny, funny!
Brilliantly done. Good job, looking forward to seeing the next one.
More to come!
Great video, I love the way a Range Rover drives as unreliable as they are, you done an amazing job on it
Brilliantly edited vlog.
While you were trying to loose the vin for ever my wife was wondering why a 58 year old grandfather was shouting " yes, yes,no,no,no,yes, get in there.
And fully agree on halfords, it's like a sweet shop for a hands on car owner.
You got a new subscriber👋
Haha I appreciate the kind words!
I've been waiting for this!
theres a TD6 Green one for sale for 3.5k. body work aside it looks tidy and im so tempted. Living vicariously through you!
This is one of my absolute favourite channels, and I wish you all the luck in the future! Love these videos. :D
Appreciate that
Excellent video, does you light issue relate to a daylight sensor maybe on the interior mirror to glass. Perhaps it’s not sensing night time. Just a though I’m no expert
I used to work at Land Rover, in the off track area, so I feel your pain and frustration.
Congratulations on your achievement, amazing.👍🏻
The commentary from your partner is the cherry on top of this video. Thanks! More from the misses!
Noted 👍🏻
Waw! As you Brits would say: Good show old boy! You are getting to be quite the wizzard. You will be able to flip this for profit. Well done. Always enjoy your videos, no matter how infrequent. Happy holidays.
Appreciate that 👍🏻
Nice to see your channel doing so well! You're on your way lad. Keep it up
I'd love to see more videos from you! However it does feel like a gem whenever you upload due to the rarity!
Yes yes yes please, because of the fact that your a self learner and that makes your videos so interesting, mistakes and errors you leave in content adds to the joy of watching🙏🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Brilliant journey mate - loving your content here in Australia! Can't wait for part 2!
Really enjoying your videos, nice, honest, upfront content with no silly over the top bs. Would be great to see more content - RS6 updates?
Really enjoyed this video. Pretty brave one to take on but looking great! And yes, would love to see more content next year😀
Wow totally amazing! At 33:07 we see an triangle chem trial! Big illuminate vibes lol. Keep up the good work, don't forget to share your faith 🙏 otherwise what is it all for? GOD BLESS
You've done an amazing job with this car!I noticed that your channel is doing really well now and you really deserve that. Can't wait for the next year's videos.
Have a great Christmas with familly and a happy New Year! 🎉🎉🎉
This is the first video I was served of yours and when you had to take out the dash for the second time, I felt it in my 20 years mechanic bones. It's always the simple things that make it hard, right. Got a sub for sure. You are gonna be big on TH-cam my guy!
Really appreciate that 🤝
How have I not found your channel sooner?! You're so humble and incredibly funny. So glad I found your channel!
You have a really good personality for video, makes the content much more watchable. Really enjoyed you putting the L322 back together. I need to go take the top dash off mine to fit an android infotainment unit - keep putting it off.
Great watch, really enjoyed, you seem to be brave, very brave.Look forward to catching up with your journey so far. Many Thanks
Thanks for watching!
The internet's favourite mad man. I genuinely love your content you do what as a mechanic you couldn't pay me to do and even tought me a thing or 5.
Appreciate that 👍🏻
Excellent channel, really enjoy your content. This has been a really satisfying build to watch so far
Stumbled on this channel and I am hooked. I love people who just do sh*t by themselves. Not that kind of person but I am becoming one.
It's a great way to relax, disconnect from this crazy world and have the satisfaction to fix things by yourself.
Really appreciate those comments mate 👍
Really great video...Superb Channel, really enjoyed your Positive attitude, that it is possible to fix your own vehicles.
Your a Natural on camera...keep it going !!!
Really appreciate that 👍🏻
You are SUCH a car bloke, mate - you've got fifteen projects on the go at the same time. This is SOP for car guys around the world. I'm surprized that the Missus didn't say anything about finishing one or three of projects One to Ten.
Haha she has opinions on it! In fact, releasing a video on Boxing Day giving everyone an update on the fleet and she features heavily 👍🏻
Great repair !! Re the dash lights… try a CANBUS reset… ( disconnect battery for 10 mins and retry mate .
Wow well done on not buying anything in Halfords it’s not easy, it’s the sane with the middle aisles in Aldi and Lidl when they’ve got the place stocked with tools and car bits,
Super foresight on buying the range rover that dash would of turned me off it big time, it cane together well,
I bet the wife will love wofting round in it
Just came across the channel and absolutely love your gear. I've just moved to the UK from Australia and am missing a car big time.
Also really craving getting in to working on a car so your channel has been a welcome find! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words. Did you bring a big V8 ute with you????
I wish ahaha! @@NotEconomicallyViable
Awesome effort mate great to watch. You don’t learn about these cars until you get your hands dirty doing fixes like you did. Regarding the dash backlights not working I had the same issue on my Discovery 3 as well as the horn not working - some research later it appeared to be the clock spring on the steering wheel, however when I removed the steering wheel to replace the clock spring there was two broken wires on the steering wheel harness. Ordered a new cable from Rimmer bros and presto fixed the horn and the dash lights
Well done . I really like the sound effects etc 😀
Have a look behind the left-hand inner A post in case you have trapped some wire that feeds the interior lights. This would cause your issue. The headlight switch illumination lights are fed by another circuit.
Hi,watched a video of yours the other day,and really enjoyed it!,have watched many more episodes since. Your wife approval of the range rover was great, she definitely a keeper 👍 wish my wife was that easy going.
Keep the video coming, they are very entertain 👍😊
Great video, and a lovely car, that dash was nuts, the amount of stuff that had to come out,
Great video though 👍
Why don't you purchase a commercial marquie to put your project cars in so that you can still work on your project cars out of the rain and wind and fog you could even purchase your self some commercial lights on stands so you can work in your marquee
For the dashboard lights, there's a wheel on the right hand side of the dash. Next to steering wheel. In the video you can see it's turned all the way down. That controls the brightness of the dash lights. Not a fuse.
Hi Nino,
I have watched through some of your earlier content and you have developed a great philosophy and working style with these cars. I have enjoyed the Fiat 500 again but notice this Range Rover is a good buy as it has clearly been well looked after before the accident, judging by the condition of the engine bay's cleanliness. I once had a 1986 RR when I lived in the middle east and yours seems a peach. Thank you for providing such good content and seeing you work through problems is a good lesson to everyone. If any of your cars came up for sale I would not hesitate in buying one.
Appreciate that 👍
ive owned a 2011 rangie for 5 years best car ive ever owned best cars in the world love the way you work regarding the lights as all the dash lights are not working goto the sorce check for power and earth and regarding bonnet use plenty of rags to protect paintwork
Small things left to do but getting it road legal is a win!
Would be great to see videos on a regular basis, hope it will sort out for you!
Thx for the video.
🤞👍👍
Brave man! But it shows it can be done, you don't have to be Edd China. You got great deals on those s/h parts too. I am thoroughly impressed!
I’ve watched all your videos up to now and I must say I love your approach of diving in head first. Keep them coming
At last a new repair video. I hope this is gonna be similar to your mini or fiat and not a 2 video wonder. Love your channel when fixing cars in depth.
Just found this channel, already looking forward to part two of the RR, you are a good watch and I admire your calmness! I’d been effing and jeffing my way through the videos!
Respect to you for taking on that job of removing the dash consul, but a bigger job putting it back, the wires alone a nightmare🙏🙏🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I lived in Chelmsford in Norton Rd for a few years around the 2000 era before emigrating to Australia. Glad to see the Halfords is still going!
Love the Peugeot 504 pickup ❤
Hi check all plugs thay might have come lose also are connected at the back off the clocks to check the dash lights when you took the dash out i hope it work
Absolutely love the channel mate, been watching since the videos you did on that Mini. You're making me want to make a channel myself and do up old bangers but I just dread the whole filming aspect of it like setting up cameras and editing etc, so major credit to you for doing it AND working a job. The Range Rover looks like a completely different car! I see the old french pickup in the background lol I hope we see some more of it soon! 😃
As someone that owned a 2004 Td6 for 10 years and now drive a 2011 most of the parts inside and out are really easy to source used at very reasonable prices. New parts are astronomical. The L322 apart from the engine & gearbox are relatively simple to work on yourself and always have a certain rewarding feeling when you get them on the road. Make sure you check if the turbo oil drain mod has been done (main achilles heal on the 3.6). Good luck with the great project.
I didn't know this before buying it, but parts availability and prices are amazing. Lots of third-party companies selling genuine parts, and lots of used parts on eBay. Will take a look into the turbo oil drain mod - thanks for the heads-up.
Hi Nino, I've been following you since you bought Claudia, I really enjoy your videos, and while i get that you would want to go full time on TH-cam, I'd suggest to not to. It's not because you wouldn't be able to or something, you would be perfectly able to manage it, but it's more of a mental health stuff, having a regular job helps you manage a regular life, you know you have a sure income and that everyday no matter what you'll be switching to your job, which will help you in case you'll ever get stuck on a project. Also you'll never feel like you're not working enough, and making enough videos, or feeling shit becuase you are relying on something that you should like but you've come to hate it becuase it's now your job. Honestly working on TH-cam is extremely stressful and I 100% rather having a video a month than seeing you not having fun while recording.
You're one of the best TH-cam channel as a matter of quality, don't be too demanding from yourself or the quality will eventually drop.
Sincerely
Marco
In all fairness I use to watch salvage rebuilds UK was a great watch but I find nevs video much more interesting just the pure reason being he's learning on the job has taken these cars on with limited knowledge yet still isn't afraid to tackle them head on , great videos keep it up and I hope your efforts pay off and your able to do this full time if that does happen please invest or look at getting a garage the cold and wet weather can be cruel to your body when working on these vehicle I can vouch for that😂
Great content mate on the broken glass I had a Sukuki sx4 which only had broken glass in passenger window at some point and I just kept finding it in my 4 year ownership! so just keep hoovering get lint roller out on seats etc great job you doing 👍
In case you haven't tried, try if the illumination works when you put light switch on park, there was one case like that and new light switch fix the problem.
For the illumination there is a little wheel dimmer switch next to the headlight switch. Wheel it up to the top!
Very happy to subscribe as this was a brilliant video showing just how much money it's possible to save rebuilding salvage. I've rebuilt well over 50 in my spare time (I'm 69) and currently rebuilding an Evoque. Ps, the glove compartment can be colour matched with leather colourant.
