Got to do this with ours soon, the security light came on, won’t start most of time and will act like there is no gas in vehicle when there is. And I live in wv also
I have 2007 Pontiac g6. When i put the key in the ignition. It won't turn. Would i have to change it like you did? If i do what was the part number for your ignition switch?
I don't remember the part number, it's been a couple years... My thought would be if the key won't turn, it's probably the key itself worn down or the tumbler, which I don't believe is part of the electronic switch component which I changed in this video... They are attached together, but if memory serves, they are two separate entities... I hope that helps... Thanks for watching!
do I gotta order a whole new key ignition switch if I already took out the old one? I lost the keys to my 09 G6 in a winter storm so that's why I took out the whole module with the ignition with no keys
The key has to be in the unlocked position and I believe there's a clip you have to release... It's been a while and my memory sucks... But thanks for watching!
Hello how you been I got a question to ask you I got a Pontiac 2009 G6 GT mort 3.5 I already replaced the starter the alternator in a new battery but it won't start everything turns on on a dashboard but it won't start
Does the engine turn over and not start or does it just click when you try to start it?? If the engine turns over but won't start then check fuel delivery and spark.... If it only clicks after installing new starter, then I would suggest putting a socket on the crank to make sure the engine didn't lock up on you.... Diagnosis is difficult without having the vehicle in front of me... Hope these suggestions help... Thanks for watching!
Buenas tardes sr mi problema es mi pontig G6 sile diy corriente prende y si lo apagó no arranca k podra ser sr me puede ayudar gracias saludos cordiales
I broke my key 🔑 in the ignition 🤦🏽♂️ so I order a key and now before trying to cut the key to match my ignition key lock I have to remove the dash and get the missing chip that broke off my old key
It did... For a while... There are some long time stereo problems with this particular car... Among other electrical gremlins.... This was the second ignition I had put in this car over several years...
Was an intermittent no start issue.... Most days it worked fine, but sometimes it would do nothing when you turned key.... Lights would come on but wouldn't turn over or start...
That could be a number of things depending on the car.... Given the small amount of info I have, I would probably start by checking timing or fuel system.... Hope you get it worked out.... Thanks for watching!
Virge Customs I have a Pontiac G6 gtp and I change starter alternator and battery still only cranks up 1 time but once driven around and shut back off it want restart I was told Cadillac Converter since mines is bad
Virge Customs when I first get in the car I crank it up and start it fires right up but I go make a run to the store turn it off and it won’t start back up after it warm up for some reason also I refill my coolant and it’s gone in 15 minutes
if no visible signs of coolant leaking out then have a compression test done on all cylinders....possible blown head gasket or head damage... Personally I would think if the catalytic converter was bad enough to cause the issue then it wouldn't run at all.... Just my thoughts...
You dont have to take apart the dash to get the cylinder out. Just get those bottom plastic panels off, then get under the dash and look upwards to the ignition lock. There is a shiny metal retaining pin there on the bottom of the assembly. Turn the key to the ON position. Poke that shiny metal pin all the way in (should poke very easily) and gently pull the ignition lock out of the housing! Bing bang boom. Good vid either way though. Figured that out while watching
My antitheft system activated in my 2010 Pontiac G6 when I tried to start it with my damaged key.The key was burned in a fire, which burned the chip.So I put a new ignition in out of another 2010 Pontiac G6 .So what do I do now to get it to start?
I believe you'll have to have a mechanic check the ohm rating of the switch and match up a key with the correct resistor chip... Don't hold me to that though, as I'm not completely sure... But thanks for watching, hope it was some help... Please consider subscribing to the channel or leaving a like on the video.
Thank you thank you thank you sir for making this video without you this job was impossible for me
Thank you for the feedback and your time in viewing... Glad it helped someone. The Virge
Awesome
Got to do this with ours soon, the security light came on, won’t start most of time and will act like there is no gas in vehicle when there is. And I live in wv also
It's doable... Aggravating, but doable... I'm back in NC now myself... But thanks for watching... Hope it's helpful
Nice view of your back doing the whole thing
Glad you enjoyed🤣 feel free to subscribe, it probably doesn't get any better from here...

How did you get the shifter cable out?

How did yiu figure out that it was the ignition switch 🤔
How did you just pop the switch out without unscrewing it from the dash?
Honestly bud I can't remember right off hand... That was a couple years back...

That sucks... Hope you were able to get it worked out...
Did the ignition switch fix the intermittent start problem? I'm having the same issue.
It did... For a while... There are some long time stereo problems with this particular car... Among other electrical gremlins.... This was the second ignition I had put in this car over several years...
That would be pretty good if you had a key to sticking it to do that, but that’s the purpose taking ignition off don’t have a goddamn key
What did it do before ?
Was an intermittent no start issue.... Most days it worked fine, but sometimes it would do nothing when you turned key.... Lights would come on but wouldn't turn over or start...
My car won’t crank or start up I can start it once and after I drive around for a little and park it will not start back up I need help

does it turn over, just won't start and run? Or is it not turning over at all once warmed up?

That won't work because you have to unscrew the ignition switch from behind the panel.
