    Jerad your crushing it!! I like the different facets of knives you keep creating content for. Your tackling every aspect of a knife. Not just reviews and unboxings but sharpening to. keeping the content fresh and different. Didn’t think you were gonna drop today. My 3 Spyderco’s are the Manix 2XL, Shaman and the GB2! Did you do anything to decrease the stiffness of the lockback on your chaparral? Yours looks like it depresses pretty easily. I just got one and the lockback is crazy stiff. Doesn’t seem like use is going to loosen it much. Thanks!

    Looking a at sales and other metrics (not easy to get btw) the 3 most popular are the PM 2/3, the Manix 2, the Dragonfly 2, and fighting it out closely for third the cheap Tenacious (due to the aftermarket parts market). Why the Dragonfly doesn't have a huge aftermarket parts scene is odd considering how many are in circulation. I found just one guy doing scales (C.F. & micarta) and not much else. A huge money maker waiting to be mined I think.

    • @jacknemo8021
      @jacknemo8021 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course personally for me it's Dragonfly, Tusk, Smock. Once the PM 2/3 is readily available in LC200N I would call it the king of EDC, due to availability of customizations and you need a user. I personally dont like them but I live near the ocean in the south. That means 90% plus salt air humidity, so corrosion resistance is of paramount importance.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely, i think the reason why spyderco doesn't do deep carty is because they are trying not to step on the toes of the company's that make aftermarket parts for their knives which is pretty cool in a way if its true, atleast from the, i dont want to take food off of there plate kind of way

    • @timbo4374
      @timbo4374 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NeevesKnives Plus, once it's been modded, the warranty is busted, so it probably saves them money in the long run on warranty issues. Just a guess, I have no idea just how many warranty claims they get, but any mod does bust the warranty. They wouldn't honor the warranty and fix my striiped pivot screw on my Shaman because it had been modded. They said they would fix it for a cost, but I would have to shell out for both parts and labor. I still love their knives, but that really blows. The mod had nothing to do with the stripped out pivot screw. The loctite they put on it was the cause of the problem. That, plus the cheap soft steel the hardware is made from. Fucking pricks. Anything stronger than blue should be illegal! 🤣

    Just got a manix 2 last night, lock is really stiff hoping a new cage will help!

    • @timbo4374
      @timbo4374 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know if the cage helps yet, because I haven't handled one with it, but I can tell you that the stiffness smooths out after awhile. I have 3 of them, and all three smoothed out after using it for 2 or 3 weeks. My best guess is the new ball cage won't make much if any difference in smoothing it out, because it's the spring tension, not the ball cage that would cause the stiffness.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cage is a little more grippy but the spring is what makes it stiff you just have to keep opening and closing, and when you set it down open it a little so the sping gets compressed

    Of the Spydercos you showcased, I would have chosen the Chapparral as my top knife. You pointed out the major drawback of the knife in its backlock construction, but I almost feel like its a necessary evil. The backlock allows it to be as thin as possible and you can in turn grind the edge to be super thin. It's the slicest knife in my small collection and its the one I grab when I want to make the thinnest cuts.
    At some point you will have to revisit this topic because I noticed both the Spyderco Spydiechef and the Spyderco Kapara are absent on the video. If I had to pick a Spyderco for me, it would have been one of those two. Most of my knife use is in the kitchen so to have knives with a design philosophy for the kitchen suits me really well.
    Thanks for tbe video and when things calm down over at Starbucks get Kara to do her version. I imagine the Techno and McBee would be 2 of her picks but that 3rd pick I do not know what she would pick.

    I don't have kids but in the past I would hear people say that having too choose their favorite knife,gun,car, guitar or whatever you collect,own or are very passionate about is like having too choose a favorite child! I now see what they're talking about.
    Oh and on the Gail Bradley I think that is designed to have a very late lockup because he wanted a solid interface between the liner and the blade so there would be no accidental closing and have a very solid lockup. I know that it was built not to be a fidget knife but to be the best cutter that he could design with the size parameters up that knife everything is designed to do one thing and one thing only cut like a sumbitch

    Spyderco has so many great designs, it's tough, but Manix 2 and the Shaman are my 2 favorites too. Especially now that I was finally able to swap out those hideous looking jade G10 scales, and with the blade regrind, man. It's a tough one to beat. The nice thin grind and the nub delete definitely improved it. I can't wait to get my Cruwear Manix back from G to see how it feels with the skinny mod and terotuff scales. I now have 3 Manix, and I'm actually thinking of picking an XL as well.

      The xl is awesome, im thinking about grabbing a black ti cage and then switching my raw ti one to the xl and putti g the black one on the regular one, the shamans definitely one of there best knives i can only imagine with a regrind, i bet its nice having yours back in action again

      @timbo4374 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NeevesKnives The Shaman worked before, I just couldn't fully disassemble it. Yes, the regrind is awesome. It's now thinner than a Civivi hollow grind! SLICEY! I'm not sure I really need an XL, but then, not needing a knife never stopped me from buying it before, LOL I'll probably wait on it though, and get either a Smock or Yojimbo instead, at least for now anyway. I have other large blades if I need that little bit longer blade. I'm thinking the CF 20CV Yojimbo. I don't have much CF right now, and I do like it as long as it's real cf and not that g10/cf laminate. I also have no 20CV, and Spyderco is the only production company I trust to do a half way decent ht on it. I got rid of most of my M390. I only have one knife with it now, the new TwoSun I bought. I like to collect and try different steels. I'm also trying really hard to NOT buy a Maxamet PM2. I have a Cruwear one, and I really don'r carry it all that often. The Manix and Shaman get far more pocket time. I do like the PM2, I just like other ones better.
      I'll let you borrow my Shaman if you still want to compare them. Just wait a bit until the new love affair fades down a little bit. I can't get it out of my pocket at the moment,, 🤣

      Actually, I have 2 M390 blades. I forgot about the custom Opinel in M390. I sent that to BJ to do a cut test, but he couldn't do it because of the geometry. The damn thing keeps cutting even after it dulls! 🤣

    After years and hundreds of Spyderco knives the Manix is still my go to. Your mind says worry about the plastic ball cage but years of use and I've yet to have one fail. Picking 3 would be tough, the Domino, GB1, Para 3 and Endura would have to fight it out.

  • @jimmycricket7946
    @jimmycricket7946 ปีที่แล้ว

    One huge problem with the smock is the flipper. It's the only problem I have experienced but it's a big one. The flipper should have had some fine jimping on it for finger traction. It has absolutely nothing it's way to smooth, a bit narrow and if you're hands are sweaty you'll find that your finger just slides right off of it, it also becomes painful to use if your a figiter. Bad design choice.... I think they excluded the jimping because they were worried about the knife jimping possibly catching on pant material or difficulty getting in and out of the pocket. I think had they simply made very fine jimping on the right top corner of the flipper only it wouldn't have become an issue.

      If you buy any popular name brand, you are paying for the name. Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT, WE, etc..all are getting a name tax added to them. Any model from any of them..take away the name, and the price of the knife would drop.
