Thank your for sharing this. Respect to everyone involved and for telling the story of all these beautiful souls . We forget how traumatic this war was for all involved and the animals. We owe so much and Thank You for being there voice what an amazing Gentlemen much love ❤
They should of came home with the handler that took care of them it would drive me crazy if I couldn't have my sidekick back home instead they left them there what a f shame the presidents should feel guilty of this
I knew a guy who was an airman, but went to infantry school, jump school, the dog handling course at Lackland, and then was assigned to the 5th Special Forces group, Vietnam. He was there in the mid '60s, did see some action. I'm sure my favorite breed, the Rhodesian ridgeback, would make a great combat companion.
Criminal that we left all those dogs behind. Heart breaking . Glad war dogs have are able to retire these days. Sad that they were sent home during WW2 and not Vietnam.
The amount of respect u have for this man and his dog is huge. The part of him leaving big boy would crush me. I honestly dont think id beable to do it. My dog isnt a war dog and im not a Soldier but my dog has saved my life before in a attempted robbery he got injured with a pretty big slice to the chest and he nailed the guy in the arm pit and me and him both fought that guy together until i saw my dog was hurt and i quickly rushed to a vet and he made a full recovery and is with me today. So while ill never say i understand his bond with big boy and what it was like leaving him i know how much it means when ur dog is willing to fight for you like that and the thought of having to leave my dog after him most likly saving my life truly kills me. So to any Soldiers whos dog couldnt come home with you you have my full remorce
Vietnam war was for nothing But to sacrifice many canine warriors which was the most horrible thing US did After watching the u tube video Of warriors of Vietnam my heart broke I cried out aloud to God why this happened to these innocent souls I know God will not forgive those who are responsible for their death
Years ago. I lived upstate New York. and my neighbor was a gentleman by the name of John Tesh. Who is part of a canine unit in Vietnam? I seen the pictures in his house of him and his dog. anyway. he had 300 acres up there. He took me and my brother, hunting one night. With his two dogs. wimpy and Popeye. I believe Popeye only had three legs. But it didn't stop these dogs. from treeing. this raccoon. this was the mid 70s I was sixteen. My brother was 12. He was an amazing man. I'm 65 now. but I was proud to have known him.
Hello, Thank you for your service and for watching our little movie. The gentleman who is telling his story, (Rick Claggett) in this documentary would like to reach out to you. He's a wonderful man and has such a heart for fellow veterans. If that is ok, could you send me your email please? en2filmpbs@gmail.com
The tragedy of the decision to abandon ALL the K9's at the end of the Vietnam war just makes my heart ache. We couldnt allocate one ship to be equipped to bring them back to the US and take care of them?! Whoever made that decision should be punished and the Command that allowed it completely stripped from any official status going back to that time. Someone today should say in no uncertain terms that it was a tragic policy and not the way K9's should ever be treated...left to die!
Why weren't the military dogs brought back? I saw a documentary film about Vietnamese military dogs (NatGeo) once, and I can’t find it ever since. Disabled?
What a moronic statement. It was government policy that no war dogs would rotate back to the states. As much as we loved our dogs we knew we had to leave them behind. It was Pentagon policy. We had no say in the decision! Former Marine Scout Dog Handler, with the First Marine Division. 1968.
Then they really need to change this policy, these dogs saved countless lives and some gave their own lives. We need to give them the proper respect they deserve. Thank you for your service.
I refuse to watch this. Dogs that terrified the Cong and when the US ran away those dogs were left as ‘equipment’. Shame on the bástards who made that decision and hopefully none of your nights were rested. The thought of what terrible things happened to those brave dogs isn’t possible to imagine.
Every comment was about the poor dogs left behind, not one comment about the 58000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and female service women of all branches that died there and untold thousands who were broken from their experience. I find that Dog people don't give a damned about people.

Very humble sensible viewpoint , thanks for the stories of Big Boy and both of your sacrifices for the US.
Great video . Had brother-in-law who was a combat tracker with black lab. He was out tracking and I got to stay in the back at an evac hospital.
God Bless You Sergeant God Bless The War Dogs of Vietnam Praying In Jesus Name Amen
I so hate our government even now leaving the dogs behind when they could be dog food not bringing the military dogs back home
When Saigon fell, all Americans had to run for their lives, that's why the dogs were left there and you know what the Vietnamese do with dogs?
@@sitthapromwasphornsaran5736 😢😪😢😪😢😭
Yes just like the Brandon administration leaving all those dogs in Afghanistan just unbelievable to me.
Even in WW1 WW2 and Korea we have left military dogs
Terrible they turned them over to the Vietnamese after they were done with them even in WW2 Army brought all the dogs back to the US.
They had to run for their lives when Saigon fell, that's why they left their kanine war heroes there. You know what Vietnamese people do with dogs?
Why weren't the military dogs brought back? I saw a documentary film about Vietnamese military dogs (NatGeo) once, and I can’t find it ever since. Disabled?
Why did your dog have to stay there?!
the us abandoned all of them after the war except I believe 200 of them came back.
Those poor dogs were considered US equipment. When the war was over the equipment was basically discarded. 😕. So sad.
Leaving the dog behind has me crying so sad

Lord what a shame, what a terrible waste

Yes I totally agree with you, these animals really need to get the proper respect they deserve. They are not equipment, just unbelievable to me.

You loved him yet left him behind? Ya... Nope.
