except in Afghanistan where they were nearly left to be butchered. we were TOLD they were rescued.... but i have a difficult time believing anything from this admin.
What a story - about war, victory, and terrible endings for these valiant warrior dogs. Shameful that they were turned loose or euthanized, instead of returned home and treated as the heroes they were . . .

USMC Scout Dog "Chipper" #10A0 and me, the Handler, on the Louisiana WarDog Memorial designed and paid for by Diane Baker of Houma, LA. The statue is on Route 311, at the Veteran's Park, in Houma, Louisiana. All Louisiana Dog Handlers are on the monuments and all Dogs also listed. 3 KIA handlers are listed, one was my LT from Shreveport, LA, Lt Lindsay, KIA January 1971, helping a severely wounded handler on to a chopper. Perry Money, former President of the Vietnam Dog Handlers Association put me in touch with Diane Baker and the process was started, without funding from the State, only by Diane Baker, to create our monuments. Perry succumbed to a Vietnam related disease. He was with me at Camp David Land, 3rd MPBN, Danang, Vietnam 1970-71. He is missed. Perry was a USMC Mine and Boobytrap handler. Semper Fi from a retired USMC Master Gunnery Sergeant
A friend of mine was a dog handler in Vietnam and he said his dog saved him many times. He had never had a dog and wanted to bring his dog home but they wouldn’t let him ⚡️
i would have probably been killed or arrested in the attempt but i would have damn sure tried to smuggle my dog and as many others home as i could.... what happened to these dogs was demoralizing to the people whose lives they saved.

I was a dog handler 70-71. I tried to buy Rowdy to bring back to the states. Was told all kinda excuses. I think of him about every day! And I tear up. He was a hell of a good dog and wasn't afraid to attack anything or body!!! Took me 5 days just to get him out of his cage. But I was safe as long as he was with me. The bounty on his head was 1500.00. Bounty on handler was 1200.00. Anyway that was what I was told.
It is heartbreaking to know these Heroes were left behind .

SP4 Lance, German Shepard, LZ Bayonet, Chu Lai, VN '68-69, he saved lives.
God Bless the War Dogs. I am grateful the American military has grown to save these dogs and bring them home.

Woof! Prince 16x5 did his part. Good Boy! I'll See you at the bridge.
It kinda breaks my heart knowing that those dogs were euthanized instead of coming home with their handlers. Luckily, a law was passed for these dogs.

These 4000 dogs died because the government decided to get involved in a war they should never have been involved in. Yes I said it.

As a dog handler, I was there at the same time.
