    One little caveat with the interference rule at 1B is that if the runner is on 1B when they get hit by the ball, even if they ran on the fair territory grass the whole way, it's not interference because the runner is allowed 1B. It's why interference wasn't called in that famous "Knoblauch yells at the ump" play against Cleveland back in the day - the ball hit the runner while the runner was occupying 1B, which they are allowed to do (the ump COULD HAVE ruled that him running in the grass was the reason the interference occured, he had that option, but the ump clearly never though that running in the grass caused any sort of interference). - Basically saying that if the runner ran in the legal running lane to 1B, he still would have been hit by the throw.

    • @TurnedToast
      @TurnedToast ปีที่แล้ว

      "out of the baseline" only applies to tag attempts, the relevant rule here is Runner's Lane Interference
      basically, the runner has to run in the lane to the right of the first baseline all the way until the last step. If the runner does so, then they can't be called for interference
      if they do not, as with Naylor, they *can* be called for interference, BUT (here's the kicker)
      they can only be called for interfering with the *catch*, not with the throw. That's why catchers should generally throw at the runner if they see him with a foot outside the foul line. If the ball hits the runner, that proves he interfered with the catch

    I’m fairly certain the ball doesn’t actually have to hit the runner, it’s my understanding that the umpire can call the runner out for base path violation regardless of what happens

    idk why mlb doesnt just add a second base at first to allow for the runner to avoid interfering

    Really shows how analytics are changing the game. Didn't even bother with anything other than the inside FB. I see it all the time with RHP against RHB, can't get nothing past him, 99/100 they will chase the down and away slider if they aren't disciplined.

    Great video, but is anyone else noticing the high-pitched humm/buzz in the background of the entire video? sounds like some kind of audio artefact or something, but it started giving me a headache with headphones on.

    Guardians are untouchable in extra innings.
    Mostly because they're a baserunning team, and that extra man on base is overpowered for small ball. lol

    Let’s get a breakdown for the Brewers Mets game. They had a military fly over for their opening day game at home but the dome was closed no one could see it 😂

    Love the Guardians! Can't imagine if our owner had top tier money.

    Isn't it that a baseline was established by the runner so long as that was his original path as he left home plate, and would only be called interference if the runner deliberately deviates from that line onto the path of the throw?
