  • Enrique asked about my other experiences building Mic Parts kits, so I pulled out my mic with a Mic Parts T-84 and a 3u Audio M7 capsule to compare with the T84-55 from the last video. Plus, my impressions of all the other Mic Parts kits I've built over the years.

    Wow, thanks for the video! I am really impressed with the sound of these and building a mic yourself seems like a fun project.

      You’re very welcome, Enrique. Thank you for suggesting it. Not only is it fun, but mic building is very rewarding and also moderately addictive.

    I have a t47 and a t67. I love both. The 67 does highs a little better, so it’s often my go to. The 47 was my very first build. Still love it, but I lean on the 67.

    Leaving another comment because I can
    I've listened to this a couple of times over and I can't decide which of your mics I like more. The T-84-55 has more character but there's something very good about the T-84/M7 build too and now I'm wondering if I should go for the T-84-55 with the M7 capsule lmao.

      That's a good question. The T84 is probably compatible with a wider range of donor bodies and I do believe it's also now available with their T6.5 transformer, which has more harmonic coloration than the MP6.5 transformer in the T84 kit in the red mic seen in the video. The T84-55 has a much smaller list of compatible donor bodies. So, I don't know if that impacts your decision, but if you go with a 3u Audio M7 capsule, you will have to make sure the headbasket is tall enough to accommodate it since it sits on a mount and pedestal that can't be swapped out like you could with a normal K47, 87, C12, style capsule. The 3u Audio M7 capsule mount also screws into the capsule deck with a single screw, so if your capsule deck doesn't have a hole pre-drilled in the center, you'd have to drill that yourself after removing any existing capsule mount. So, with the M7, there are additional considerations that slightly complicate the build. That being said, it is an outrageously nice capsule. Always with 3u Audio the best bet would be to message Guosheng directly (3uaudio@gmail.com) to order and you can ask him if it would fit into the donor body of your choice. I may be wrong, but I believe the 3u M7 goes for around $200, so it is also a bit more expensive. So yes, the donor body you prefer will be a big consideration.

      I think I'd pick my donor body based on the guts I wanna put in the thing as I don't actually have a mic I want to sacrifice. I imagine mic-parts customer service and Mr Guosheng can help me choose the appropriate body?

      @@enriquekahn9405 Asking Mic parts Matt is probably a good first step, though do not be surprised if he suggests his own capsules as your “best” solution. Also to note, the 3u M7 capsule plus mount is approximately 50 mm tall so it would require nearly 2 inches of clearance from the capsule deck to the top of the headbasket. Most likely more since you don’t necessarily want the top of the capsule so high up in the headbasket. FWIW, there are u47 style mic bodies on AliExpress that may do the trick and be big enough.

    I want to build one of the MP circuits, but doing something with a pre-made circuit from JLI. I wonder how the JLI Alice circuit compares to the 57 circuit from micparts. I wouldn't pay his prices for those capsules.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Alice is very vanilla flat circuit that pairs well with a 47 or c12 style capsule. MP57 has options to add EQ on top end so you can also use a k87 style capsule if you prefer.
